Police Shuts Down Knoxville '10 For $10' Concert After Band, Crowd Turn On Bouncers
- July 13, 2009
|
|
WBIR-TV, the NBC affiliate in Knoxville, Tennessee, reports that today's (Monday, July 13) "10 For $10" show at the city's Valarium venue — featuring POISON THE WELL, WAR OF AGES, TERROR, MADBALL and THIS IS HELL — was shut down after a fight broke out inside the concert and nearly a dozen people were arrested. Police say when the club's bouncers tried to intervene, they found the band and crowd had turned on them. The fight spilled out into the parking lot. Knoxville Police got the emergency call around 3:30 p.m., and officers arrived to find several people fighting in a large crowd. Ten people were arrested, on charges including everything from disorderly conduct to inciting a riot. Read more and watch video footage of the post-fight scene outside the venue from WBIR-TV. WVLT-TV report on the "riot" at the Valarium: Fan-filmed video footage:

I count 13 bands on that bill...not 10...which means the gimmick of 10 bands for 10 bucks wasn't even enough to get enough people there to cover the costs of the show without getting locals to pay to play...lame

It's still over priced by $10.00, they should give the crowd ten bucks just for showing up to that shitfest.

HA! Those are the real bad asses.
Someone mentioned Terror could be the band that turned on the bouncers, I doubt it since the concert started at 3:30 and the police were called at that time. But I seen Terror get all tough-guy on the bouncers at a show as well. Seems to be a theme with them.

The band that turned the bouncers on was Fingers crossed, they played first and were only on their second song when security put a kid in a headlock for hardcore dancing and started a brawl. So I pretty much missed the whole show.

i was there at the show today, no it wasn't terror who started it and the bouncers where way out of line, yes there was a few guys that where being rough with the crowd that didn't want them around and they were stopped. What set everyone off really was when a bouncer started choking a small lanky guy that was just out dancing and well the bouncers jumped in because the guy's friends stepped in to help him and well after that it all got out of hand. there was no fights in the parking lot raised voices yes but its because we had been there for ten minutes and it was only the second song in and we'd be told all to leave. we wanted a refund, who wouldn't? and then after we all had to stand outside the owner of the venue said well we aren't giving you your money back but you can have a free blank ticket to come back to any show. now why would i come back? apparently the bouncers can do as they please and your not allowed to even dance. what a joke. then the cops showed and made us all leave and took a few people in all in all i only saw and heard at the show later which we just moved to a private residence that three people were in custody and we knew this because people were taking donations for bail money. look its a hardcore show come on the owner had terror and madball and all of them who didn't come expecting people to dance and get hit?

Just a very quick list of observations from someone who grew up on just as much punk & hardcore as he did all the genres of metal!
1. NOBODY turns on bouncers. Firstly, if you're a "bouncer" you're probably a dick anyway so fuck you & everybody like you. It's an unwritten rule between bouncers/security that there's a fuck of a lot more of us than you, so keep is clean and so will we. 2. Rarely does anybody notice if some kid/guy/girl kicks a security guy in the head for no reason, which leads to half the crowd going after a guy who did nothing but get an unwarranted kick in the head. 3. Back when punk & hardcore first came out, there was no wannabe "karate kid" bullshit. In all honesty, nobody knows where/when it started, and anybody who was around back then will tell you that it just makes you look like an idiot. So knock the shit off or go spin around in a fucking field somewhere or some shit! 4. Yeah, I'm a diehard old schooler that couldn't give half a rats hairy ass and will say what I feel needs to be said because nobody else either has the balls or isn't old enough to remember how it started and--though most of you will call me a dick for it--has no reason to say shit about what hardcore/punk is or should be. Yes, I told pretty much anybody under 25 to shut it since you know shit. And by shit I mean nothing. I honestly have back patches older than you. 5. Please don't get me wrong on this since Blabber is world-known for having the most "I know everything and you know nothing" people commenting. I was simply THERE when it started. I got every (7 & 12") record via mail order, saw every sunday punk show I could (and was banned from my church due to a Suicidal Tendencies shirt). The message and intent has been severely perverted and skewed to fit a need and the truth has been forgotten. Why do you think bands are trying heavily to get circle pits going again? Why do you think Slipknot (who, in all honesty, are 100x more punk than most "punk" bands) have the crowd sit until told to jump up in unison? Check your history and THEN talk. Otherwise, you just look like some idiot kid trying to show he/she knows more than the other guy/girl who probably knows even less.
And thats my rant.

totally agreed. I think the dancing shit was started by white suburban meatheads who also happen to be ex Limp bizkit and korn fans until they became uncool to listen to. Their phony alpha male status was threatened because of their Limp Bizkit heritage so they had to invent the gayest, pseudo-masculine concert activity in recent human history

I honestly don't know when/where it started. Though I really don't care...lol. And I'm not pulling a dick move but, I really doubt anybody was doing spin kicks at limp biscuit or korn...lol. Just my random guess =) But after reading my post (which was admittedly written pretty damn fast), I'll be happier if I explain a couple things.
1. The "unwritten rule" between bouncers/security and the crowd was "Don't fuck with me, we won't fuck with you. If you pull some bullshit, this entire crowd will tear you apart." But nobody likes bouncers so fuck them.
2. Waaaaaay too many times has some idiot kicked or punched a barricade guy and gotten fucked up for it only to tell anybody who'll listen that he/she didn't do anything and got jacked up for no reason. Hell, it was just as bad as thrash shows in the 80's too!
3. It was all circle pits and crowd surfing towards the stage. If you made it onstage, you jumped off just as quick and repeated the cycle. If ANYBODY threw a punch, they had anyone who saw it on their ass. The "hardcore" idiots today wouldn't last ten seconds in a Misfits Fiend pit back then. Or a Black Flag crowd. Or an MDC crowd. Or a Judge...aw fuck it.
4. Don't talk about what you don't know about. Pretty plain and simple. You just look like a fucking idiot if you try so don't.
5. I could care less if anybody talks shit about anything I said since this is the fucking internet and not face to face so it really doesn't mean a damn thing. I just typed up my little piece and then went and ordered a shitload of Blair's hot sauce.
The End.

This article reminded me of a Hatebreed video I saw a while ago (think it was "this is now") and on that video there's spin kicks and flapping slapping arms all over the place. I hate the shit that hardcore crowds pull out, with all the macho slap ya face pretense and crap. I wish somebody could have sent the hardcore kids of today, the arrogant youth to an old GISM show. Compared to this little bastards with there floppy hair and skin tight jeans.
Don't get me wrong, Core gigs should be violent places. A good old circle pit is great, it is just these days it is all about who can do the best Fly kick rather than just have a good old bundle.
Read a book a few years ago called The Violent World of Moshpit Culture which tlaked about how pits were changing from relatively positive (yet rough) places to martial art dance floors with some kids having their own "Special Moves!" fucking ridiculous if you ask me.

Not that I'm a supporter of bouncers but I know how ignorant and stupid some concert goers can be. I don't know how many death metal shows I went to and had to kick the asses of crowd surfers and stage divers. I nearly got knocked out when some ass stage diver jumped right on top of my head and he could have broken my neck. I also got a huge black eye when some dick crowd surfer with steel toed boots was kicking around and kicked me in the face. I don't remember how many times crowd surfers (you know the shirtless sweat hogs) clawed at me or hit me. Little did they know that my 6'3 250lb ass was going to either launch them across the room or beat the shit out of them. So I know how much shit bouncers have to put up with because of idiot with no concern for others. Shit I even had to help some young teenage girl out of the pit one time because they were pummeling her and she couldn't get up. Seems the jocks and new kids to this sort of music don't understand the baisc rules of the pit. If someone falls you help them up not stomp them down. I quit going to a lot of those types of shows because instead of watching the bands you had to defend yourself from morons the whole night.

Maybe I'm the only person who doesn't really mind bouncers? Most of the venues I go to, the bouncers are usually really cool about stuff and so long as you aren't fighting or intentionally harming others, they pretty much let you do whatever. Can't really recall one show where someone unjustly got ejected.
Only time I really seem to see asshole ones are at much larger venues like arenas, or little known clubs.

They can ruin any show. Promoters, venues and law enforcement need to compile lists of SxE punks that start shit and ban them from venues, like football clubs and FAs deal with hooligans.
And for the useless racist hatemongerer "Fight_The_Tyranny":
Just wanted you to know that the granny dress you wear under your KKK robes really makes you look fat.
