NICOLAS CAGE's Black Metal Frontman Son: 'I Want To Contribute To My Genre And Honor My Family'

EYES OF NOCTUM, the California-based black metallers fronted by Weston "Arcane" Coppola Cage (18-year-old son of actor Nicolas Cage), are in the middle of a short U.S. tour which will bring them to O'Brien's Pub in Allston, Massachusetts tonight (Wednesday, July 15) alongside CLOSED CASKET, WHO CARRIES THE LANTERN and BONE RITUAL. "We don't drag with us the essence of Hollywood," Weston tells BostonHerald.com. "I have a dark maniacal side and sometimes I want to decimate every person in the room. But I also want to enlighten. We have a variety of different fans and get different reactions." He adds, "I've always had a certain sentiment in me I couldn't define. As a teenager, I gravitated toward more darker music." EYES OF NOCTUM's debut album, "Inceptum", is due later in the year through Morbid Rose Records. The CD was recorded at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with acclaimed producer Fredrik Nordström ( DIMMU BORGIR, IN FLAMES, HAMMERFALL). Norwegian drummer Hellhammer ( MAYHEM, DIMMU BORGIR) and Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw ( THERION, DREAM EVIL, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, MEMENTO MORI, NOTRE DAME) both make guest appearances on the CD. Regarding his contributions to the EYES OF NOCTUM album, Snowy Shaw recently told SickDrummer.com, " Fredrik just called me one night, asking me to attend in the studio as some sort of coach for this poor young L.A. drummer who simply couldn't get it down, so after having wasted several days, Fredrik, as the producer, just had to take charge of the procedure and get things moving. I got there the next morning thinking I'd be coaching the guy, then understand they expect me to do ghost drumming, then the next day I'd be listed as the drummer. I'm a very quick learner, and although I don't consider myself a very good black metal drummer (since I hit the drums very, very hard; playing that ultra-fast gets tricky), but I did my best to please them with all their wishes and requests, and I nailed it all in a few days' time, and everybody was happy." While Cage wants to be judged on the merits of his music, he acknowledges his family's history in the spotlight. "I come from a lineage of great artists," he tells BostonHerald.com. The drummer ruins it all. Apparantly he couldn't even play on the album. From a recent Snowy Shaw interview (http://www.sickdrummer.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1420&Itemid=2):
Most recently was last summer for a band I think is called Eyes of Noctum with Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage's son as the leader/singer. honor doesn't come from hiring musicians to do a job you are supposed to be doing. it's disgraceful.

Anyway, I just thought I would mention that Glass Casket is a better band name than Closed Casket, and while I haven't heard Closed Casket, I can also guarantee that Glass Casket is better.

Mr. "Arcane", if you are reading this, this is my advice to you.
1. This song sucks. You need to do better than this if you want to honor your family.
2. Fire drummer immediately.
3. Work on song writing skill.
4. Again, your band's song writing is severely lacking.
Since you are only 18, I think you might have a chance to make decent music in the future but.. BUT.. what you are playing right now is just too generic.
Sorry to be blunt but I have been listening to black metal 2 decades and know good black metal when I hear it and yours is not.

Its funny because if he wanted to leave Hollywood out of it, he would have come up with a better stage name. His dads last name is not really Cage, it is Coppola. He used Cage to strike out on his own away from the famous Coppla name. Now his kid is using BOTH Hollywood names, "We don't drag with us the essence of Hollywood," yeah right.
I will say though he inherited his dads voice. When he was talking he sounds dead on to his dad. Maybe he can make a check overdubbing his dads lines to clean up R rated movies for TV.

apparently, none of you were alive in the 80's and 90's when Nic Cage was a great actor. Hello? Leaving Las Vegas, Raising Arizona, Face/Off? He did win an Academy Award. But yes, I will admit he's been awfully shitty the last decade and a half. Plus, he's been going bald since the mid 80's. Hair plugs and a face-lift seemed to temporarily help.
P.S. His kid's band sucks ass.

Is NU-METAL. Listen to the music, its monotonous chugga chug power chords, with dimmu vocals. This band has no soul, no talent. The guests are there for a paycheck.
The modern metal scene is filled with posers. Thrash Posers, Death Posers, Deathcores majority of fans are posers.
This band thinks they are black metal, cos Slipknot isn't extreme enough for them anymore.
Keep the drummer. It sounds like he at least tries to do something.
See how many metal fans really have balls. If this shit act comes to your town, man up and tell them about it. Keep shit like this off tours.

At least his sons growling is better than his dad's acting (with the exception of Wild At Heart, since David Lynch apparently can work with bad actors and still make one look good)
And Cage's Wicker Man is an insult to anyone who loves classic cult/horror movies.

at best, this is just mediocre fake black metal. maybe the rest of the album is better. The hollywood star's son's voice is pretty cool I think.
if that guy is the same drummer as in the studio.apart from dropping and speeding in tempo i don't think he was that awful was he? Then again, he learned from the absolute best: Snowy Shaw.

I saw the show last night featuring Eyes Of Noctum, Closed Casket, Bone Ritual and Who Carries The Lantern and man it was a great show.
Sure Eyes Of Noctum is cheesy and cliched as all hell (pun sorta intended), but they put on a really good show and the music works really well live. Nice dudes too, very appreciative of the chance to play and such. Weston's stage presence was pretty good, his stage banter was definitely rehearsed and hilariously cheesy haha. Good stuff though.
Also Bone Ritual is a band to check out. Primitive raw sounding black metal with just bass, drums and vocals. Highly highly recommend them!

no, Barbed Wire Casket is better than both Closed & Glass Casket. I thought Tarnished Casket & Fiberglass Casket were good as well, but they were pretenders to the throne.
