ALICE IN CHAINS Taps U2 Director For 'Check My Brain' Video - July 15, 2009
ALICE IN CHAINS has tapped Alex Courtes (U2, KAISER CHIEFS, SNOW PATROL) to direct the video for the band's new single, "Check My Brain".

Courtes studied graphic art at one of the best European schools, Penninghen. Very soon, he started to become noticed by the various bands within the "French touch" scene in Paris and has worked with CASSIUS, DAFT PUNK and AIR. This in turn opened the door to the international market, where he has worked with some of the biggest rock and pop artists in the world — U2, THE WHITE STRIPES, KYLIE MINOGUE, JAMIROQUAI and FRANZ FERDINAND — and has landed all the most prestigious awards in the music video industry, in the U.S. as well as in the U.K. and France.

For a list of videos Courtes has worked on, go to this location.

"Check My Brain" is the lead single off ALICE IN CHAINS' first collection of all-new studio material in 14 years, "Black Gives Way To Blue", which is set for release on September 29 through EMI Music's Virgin Records label. The disc will feature the recording debut with the group of singer William DuVall, who first got behind the mic for the band's 2006 reunion tour after original vocalist Layne Staley died in 2002.

Guitarist Jerry Cantrell recently told The Pulse of Radio that ALICE IN CHAINS was "really proud" of the new record, adding, "Regardless of how it does, it's a win already for us, 'cause we really dig it and we stand behind it, and each other."

ALICE IN CHAINS will play a small, intimate gig at London, England's Scala on August 4 — two days after playing the second stage at the METALLICA-headlined inaugural Sonisphere festival, set to take place on August 1-2 at the legendary Knebworth Park, United Kingdom.

ALICE IN CHAINS will next perform on July 18 at Comerica Park in Detroit with KID ROCK.

i find it funny when a little over a year ago how people were so critical of Duvall and alice now the people are starting to hype the album....no big surprise to me. THEYVE NEVER FUCKING WROTE A BAD ALBUM OR SONG AS A FUCKING BAND!!!! They're one of the best hard rock bands in the world regardless if Layne's dead even though i can speak for everyone that we miss him dearly and rather have him in a better place and not have to live through his painful addiction.

This album will be legit just like all cantrells solo and none solo shit, I just dont get how you can catch the spirit of alice in chains, jerrys older you know, hes grown up is no longer a junk head and is no longer in his twentys. I like that one song i heard although it is kinda drawn out, but i read that IT IS NOT A SINGLE! So that is good.

I'm looking forward to the video for Check My Brain as well. I'm sure the AIC boys have their own standard that they're not going to compromise too, in terms of aesthetic quality of the video.

So EMI is really pushing this album with a lot of promotion... 2 videos in 2 months...

A Looking In View was GREAT, looking forward to hearing this new single.

This band kicks serious ass, and always has.

I must admit, I was skeptical of the "reunion" and Duvall in the band when this materialized a few years ago, but seeing one live show on their headlining tour in '06 quelled all doubts I may have had (and there were quite a few). Duvall does a stellar job of filling in Layne's nearly un-fillable shoes, and the band was top fucking notch.

"A Looking In View" proves the band still has the skills to write a brilliant song, and if this is anything in the vein of the rest of the album, it will be nothing short of awesome. This song truly sounds like Alice In Chains, not 3 members of AIC with a new singer. I can't wait till the next single, and then the entire fucking album. Will definitely be buying this if this song is any indication of it's quality.

the only thing that is starting to bother me is that with EVERY SINGLE news release about Alice In Chains there is a paragraph that mentions Layne Staley's death. WE ALL KNOW. Please Blabbermouth...... do the right thing and let this band move on already. We do not need to read/ be reminded about Layne. WE ALL KNOW. We all miss him.

I am not a fan of videos but seeing as this is Alice In Chains, I will have to watch it right away.

I agree with the above mentioned....... PLEEEEEEEEEEASE release a live DVD!

Are they EVER going to release Live Facelift on DVD?? They've scraped the bottom of the barrel to put out every little thing the Layne era recorded, but never released this on DVD.

That and Soundgarden's Bad Motorvision would quench my grunge-thirst.

I remember 1995. AIC was about to release "tripod". In my life, I never anticipated any album more. AIC was poised to take over the world. But Layne blew it. He was a "no-show" on the album and his vocals were awful. They tried to cover it up with multi-tracking but it was obvious that he couldn't "sing". He let everyone down and was an embarrassment. His appearance on Unplugged was a disgrace. Forgetting words. Reading his own lyrics from a sheet of paper. Disgraceful. Stop giving him a free pass people. He was brilliant on Facelift and Dirt, but from 1995 on he was a disgrace to himself and the fans and the band. Listen to the 1996 tracks from AIC Live. Its unlistenable. Jerry stuck with him through it all. Now Jerry and the band deserve a chance. They have payed more than enough respect to Layne and deserve to carry on with the AIC name.

Amen, brother. I remember seeing Ozzy in Feb. 1996 in Rochester (with Korn and Life Of Agony). Mike Inez happened to be playing bass in Ozzy's band during that show. Imagine, AIC just released an album a couple of months ago and they should have been on the road! I went to a radio station meet and greet at a bar next to the War Memorial and actually got to talk to Inez for a minute. Really nice guy. When I asked him when I could expect to see him with AIC, his tone completely changed, he told me he had no clue, and proceeded to leave the bar. He fucking knew right there that Layne was too far gone and he was happy that he at least had Ozzy for paycheck. Layne fucked us all.

Considering that AIC had no contract and had to tour for two years just to be able to raise enough money to make the album, it surprises me none that there is that buzz. On the strength of the recording, Virgin not only signs them, but makes the album a Christmas release? News flash: if this album was going to suck, it would be on Rhino and already out.
