DOBERMANN: Former THE CROWN Members Split With DEATHSTARS Singer - July 17, 2009
Vocalist Andreas "Whiplasher Bernadotte" Bergh of the Swedish industrial goth metal band DEATHSTARS has parted ways with the new band formed by four former members of the now-defunct Swedish death/thrash act THE CROWN. The new group, dubbed DOBERMANN, has already enlisted an as-yet-undisclosed replacement singer and is currently recording a collection of tunes which are being described as "pure death/thrash metal."

DOBERMANN is:

Magnus Olsfelt (THE CROWN) - Bass
Marko Tervonen (THE CROWN, ANGEL BLAKE) - Guitar
Marcus Sunesson (THE CROWN) - Lead Guitar
Janne Saarenpää (THE CROWN) - Drums
[To Be Announced] – Vocals

THE CROWN split up more than five years ago due to "too many tours gone bad due to not at all professional tour arrangements," according to a March 2004 statement released by Saarenpää. He added, "Coming home from tours with empty pockets, equipment falling apart and having a pile of bills on the doorstep is simply 'horns down'. Paying the bills with tour memories and floorscores is just not possible. We do love standing on stage but we don't know much about the business part, and that's a bad combination."

THE CROWN's video for the track "Face Of Destruction/Deep Hit Of Death" — which was filmed in Germany in August 2003 — can be viewed below. The song was the first single off the group's final CD, "Possessed 13", which was released in October 2003 through Metal Blade. The self-produced effort, which was recorded at Gothenurg's Studio Fredman during May-June 2003, was made available in a special limited-edition double-CD digipack, featuring a bonus CD that contained the band's 1993 "Forever Heaven Gone" and 1994 "Forget The Light" demos, a cover of BATHORY's "Burnin' Leather", and a demo version of "Rebel Angel" (off 2000's "Deathrace King" CD).

Deathrace King is a masterpiece (their other stuff is good too) and this should be killer.

Rebel Angel is one of the best death/thrash songs ever and the whole CD cooks.

cheers.

COMMENT | Anyone else like Eternal Death as much as I do?

In my opinion Eternal Death and The Burning are their most black metal inspired albums. ED even sounds like it was recorded in a cave with the ridiculous level of reverb and such.

there had been no update about this band for ages so was wondering if they were just rumours... I was introduced to Crown of Thorns after they released Eternal Death and followed them since. Was very lucky to have seen them live twice with Johan back in the day. Eternal Death is a very good album although different to anything they released after that. Not to mention it contains two of their best songs ever: Angels Die and In Bitterness And Sorrow... Hail the Crown (and Dobermann)! Looking forward to more news and hopefully some samples
