Ex-KISS Guitarist BRUCE KULICK Completes Work On 'BK3' Album
- July 18, 2009
Guitarist Bruce Kulick (KISS, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, UNION) has completed work on "BK3", his third solo album following 2001's "Audio Dog" and 2003's "Transformer". The CD was mastered on Thursday, July 16 at Precision Mastering in Hollywood, California. An official release date has not yet been announced.
"BK3" will feature guest appearances by legendary vocalist Doug Fieger (THE KNACK), Tobias Sammet (EDGUY, AVANTASIA), Nick Simmons (Gene Simmons' son), and former KISS cohorts Gene Simmons (singing lead vocals on a track co-written with Kulick called "Ain't Gonna Die") and Eric Singer (who contributed drums on the track vocalized by Sammet). It will also include the three songs that were featured on the limited-edition EP that was created especially for Kulick's recently completed Australian guitar clinic tour, which took him to four cities during his brief one-week visit. Included on the disc were "No Friend of Mine" featuring guest vocalist John Corabi (MÖTLEY CRÜE, UNION, RATT, ESP), "And I Know" (featuring Kulick on vocals), and the instrumental track "Between The Lines" featuring a musical "supergroup" comprised of drummer Kenny Aronoff, bassist Jimmy Haslip, and the dual guitar attack of Kulick and Steve Lukather.

Kulick is a great guitar player. Was One of the very first people I saw play live, at one of my first concerts as a teen. He was with Kiss then, and honestly, doing a fucking great job. I think he deserved better than he got with the way the reunion happened and such after all the years of playing he gave Kiss. Considering the years he was with Kiss, he really showed a wide range of talent on those albums. One of the best guitarists Kiss ever had.

can't dispute any of those facts! so what will be thayer's "legacy" to kiss? greatest ace-impersonator? eric is excused because he had a history with kiss before scab-kiss.

i'm not against bringing kiss to a whole new generation of fans. and i'm not so stupid that i can't see that's exactly what they are doing now! good on them! but i stand by my position that using the personas of former members to do that is disrespectful! give new fans the music! give them the show! but be respectful to the history of the band so that we can all be proud of kiss!!!!

were the best guitar players in kiss. Yes, better than Ace. while Ace is a great player, he is limited/and sloppy live, even today. Bruce played on the best kiss albums too, animalize, hot in the shade are amazing albums, much better overall than destroyer, which is the most overrated album ever along with love gun. Best kiss album with Ace was dynasty. Yeah, I said Dynasty. Dirty Livin anyone?

Left because they were putting the makeup back on and he wanted no part of it. End of story. That being said, when Kiss put out "Revenge", I for one believed they were back in the big leagues. That album had some great heavy songs, some great Arena songs etc, and a great tour with that album, complete with strippers on stage during "Take it off". Man, I'm getting flashbacks writing this, that was hot. Anyway, then they decide to do the farewell tour with Ace & Peter. For what? Purely for money. After that was over, they put out "Psycho Circus", trying to recapture what was. It didn't happen. Most of the songs on that one, except maybe 2, sounded like they were written & recorded in 2 days. Now they have a new cd coming out this year and believe me, I loved what Kiss was growing up. But it's hard to recapture the sound & feel of Youth. I'm looking forward to hearing what it sounds like, although I might be highly disappointed. The best Kiss albums in my opinion are in order. 1. Destroyer, this is a no brainer. 2. Revenge 3. Dressed to kill. Another thing, I will not pay to go see them again unless their set list changes to somehing different. I have heard Deuce & Strutter so many times I hope to never hear them live again. How about playing songs like they did on the revenge tour. "I just wanna" Take it off", Ugh all night", UNholy, Domino" heavens on fire, lcik it up...they played their ass's off for 2 hours of great rock n roll.

I think it's hilareous that "suddenly" this is a scab version of Kiss. Ace and Peter have been out of the band longer than they were actually in it. You're ignoring the fact that creating new characters at this stage of the band's existence isn't feasible (like it was in 1980 & 1982), and you see how well that worked back then (even when it was a drumming icon replacing Peter Criss). Clearly there is still a market for Kiss otherwise they wouldn't be doing this. The fact is that neither Ace Frehley nor Peter Criss deserve any "claim" on the history of the band any longer given there attempts to implode the band during the late 90s and early 2000's (nevermind the fact that they SOLD their claims to the characters back in the late 80's).
The FACT is Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer are leaps and bounds ahead of Ace and Peter in terms of musical talent that it's almost scary.
Eric Singer's legacy is already in tact (i.e., Revenge, Carnival of Souls, Alive III & Unplugged).
Tommy's thus far is being an excellent guitar player who can play Ace's licks better than Ace ever could. We'll have to see whether he can put his own stamp on a Kiss album. But the fact remains is that you're putting way too much emphasis on these "characters" and not even addressing the fact that the band is a lean machine with this band on stage.

Ace & Bruce are both great guys & great guitar players. Period. But they are both two different guitar players with two distinct styles. It would be like comparing Eddie Van Halen & Jimi Hendrix. both great guitar players, but completely different styles. We compare them because they played in the same band & played alot of the same songs. Each had distinct styles. Now maybe Ace wouldn't be able to pull off some of the more modern tecniques that Bruce uses, but also Bruce maybe doesn't capture that unique vibe that Ace brings out of the instrument.
Also, I agree with Haymaker. Ki$$ isn't Ki$$ when they have impersonators in the band.
Ki$$ fans didn't fall in love with the make-up, it was the personalities behind the make-up.
Boycot the new Ki$$ album, support musicians with integrity & buy the new Ace Frehley & Bruce Kulick albums!!!!

.......although it appears to be working for fans of KI$$, because some of the shows ARE selling. but many fans of KISS (like me) are feeling disrespected.
