DEEP PURPLE 'Ready To Make Another Album'
- July 20, 2009
|
|
According to a posting on the Deep Purple Appreciation Society web site, DEEP PURPLE singer Ian Gillan was interviewed by Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet ahead of the band's July 20 concert in Istanbul, and mentioned plans for a new studio LP. "I think we are ready to make another album," he said. "We've been talking about it for some time already. I think we'll start to work on it next February." He also shed light on the band's recording methods. "We go into the studio with absolutely nothing, no music or lyrics whatsoever," he said. "We sit in the kitchen, having some cup of tea, talk about families and football… Then we go into the room and play; six hours a day. After three days, some ideas begin to shape and we start to turn them into songs. To prepare the main lines takes about three weeks, to deal with lyrics, recording process and mixing also take two weeks. Since there have been many technological developments recently and we use them by recording the music in analog and mix it in digital to achieve the best result." DEEP PURPLE's 18th studio album, "Rapture of the Deep", was released in November 2005. It is the fourth studio CD from DEEP PURPLE since guitarist Steve Morse joined the band in 1994. It was also the second album to feature veteran keyboardist Don Airey. "Rapture of the Deep" was produced by Mike Bradford, who also worked on the band's previous release, 2003's "Bananas".

I think what they really need to do is dump Ian Gillan which would then open the door for Ritchie Blackmore and David Coverdale. Now that would be an exciting new album because the current Deep Purple chemistry is a bit dull.

These guys keep cranking out albums no one gives a fuck about.
If you don't believe me, imagine going to see DP live and they ONLY play stuff from:
Purpendicular Abandon Bannanas Rapture of the Deep (Did I miss any - though you could also add House of Blue Light, Slaves and Masters, and The Battle Rages On).
BTW- Whoever suggested getting Coverdale and Blackmore back, think again - just saw Whitesnake and Cov doesn't have it no more. And Blackmore is having too much fun wearing his little wizard pajamas playing fairie music.

agreed that the chemistry is a bit dull, seen them in Toronto in 2007 and that was enough for me. I would rather watch and listen to Morse with the Dixie Dregs, Airey is still messed up since Ozzy shaved his head and eyebrows and shit down his throat on the tour bus. I am suprised Gillan can still go anywhere with the massive ego he has from the " fairies " famous guitar lines.

Deep Purple was and always will be the baddest ass hard rock band of all time, but WTF happened to them?? I worshiped the Mk2 lineup,....and look at them now. Ritchie has become forgotten as THE Guitar God,playing that minstral crap and forgetting where his REAL fans are now. "The Hard Rock Palace" www.live365.com/stations/detpak

grow up and listen to what he's doing now or continue to live in the past. To deny change is to deny the one truth that life has to offer. People change, bands change line-ups. You don't have to like it, but get over it...... LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY DEEP PURPLE!!!!!!!

Deep Purple releasing a new album is just what we need. Sabbath, Priest, and Queensryche have released crap recently, and DP needs to teach these lazy bands a thing or two about cranking out quality music...

This is a long time overdue.
Rapture of the Deep redeemed the band after a string of good but not great albums, so hopefully the band will still have that vibe. Steve Morse is a great guitar player in his own right and the naysayers need to get over the fact that Ritchie's not coming back. And as good as Burn and Stormbringer were, Ian Gillan is without question the voice of Deep Purple and still has an amazing set up pipes for a senior citizen.

I would LOVE a set of only those albums... say what you will, but I feel those albums are more consistent than the 70's albums, even though those albums are the classics. And, in my opinion, Purpendicular is probably their best album. Play that front to back, I'd be a very happy concertgoer. Blackmore is still God though.

...let's get some new purple riffs. I'd rather have Lord and Blackmore - but, that's just not gonna happen.
I actually liked Bananas - what a stupid album title though. Rapture of the deep was boring.
Blackmmore ain't commin' back - but is it too much to invite Jon Lord back for one more song???

Its really sad to see the pioneers of hard rock struggling with album titles such as BANANAS...Honestly,Deep Purple without Ritchie never made it.With all respect to steve morse who used to be Kansas guitarist, noone can approach ritchie's mad guitar.whether he is now playing minstrel tunes on his mandolin with candice knight,or wearing weird clothes he will always be a guitar hero. Look at Rainbow ,they made it big much bigger than purple and it was only because of ritchie leading and forming the band.He chose correctly many names starting with Ronnie james dio on vocals and late Cozy Powell on drums to Don Airey on key boards ,they were a perfect band playing perfect tunes. That was HARD ROCK at its best and yes Ritchie's guitars reached and touched beyond the Rainbow. Honestly guys,i had the opportunity to personally meet the last purple line back in the late 90's .Ian Paice is a real gentleman and so is Roger Glover but Gillan is another story a rude character who is in the wrong business..July 25 Deep Purple will be performing in Lebanon and yes i will be there hoping a miracle will occur and i will hear no Bananas or whatever Rupture of the DEEP contains. Long live rock'nRoll.

Then just don't buy the new(er) albums. Of course nothing will be the same as In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, etc because DP now is what how much older in 2009? Even Gillan himself said that he can't sing Child in Time anymore because his voice just can\t hit those notes any longer. Getting older sucks but that's life and you move with it. If you wanna hear him scream bloody murder then listen to the classic albums, that's what they're there for. I liked Bananas better than Rapture, so you know what I did?
I didn't buy it! Abd I have In Rock for when I wanna the DP of old. Go and listen to it now
PS Neither Blackmore nor Gillan wanna come back/have him back in the band so let it go. And if Jon Lord wanted to come back, I'm sure he could. A poster above made it sound as if DP wouldn't let him back

I Drove 65 miles to see Purple at the midnightrock festival, and I got fucking dissapointed. Gillan could bearly sing at all. It sounded like someone was stamping on a dying hamster. FUCKING EMBARRASING!! As if that wasnt enough, JORN played after Purple, and in the end of the gig they did "Burn" from early purple, and they fucking erased the stage man! I just felt sorry for Deep purple all the way home.
