NIKKI SIXX: I Don't Hate The Internet, I Just Hate Doing Interviews With 'Stupid' Writers - July 20, 2009
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx has issued the following update:

"Opening night [of 'Crüe Fest 2'] was a week long for us and the crew. Working, re-working, building and re-building so when the lights finally went down we were all so in sync. I knew the crew was tired but I could see how proud they were at the same time. 95% of everything went off fantastic, and for a first show that's amazing. It really took a lot of people to make it run that smoothly…. so I want to thank 'everybody' in Camden and Philly for busting ass, including all the other bands on 'Crüe Fest 2'. What made me and the guys smile was hearing reports that fans were having a great time at the main stage and the Monster Energy stage, all day and night long...

[See fan-filmed video footage of the opening-night show below.]

"Now the circus begins, the trucks are rolling, the show's begun. This tour lasts 'till beginning of September. After that, some shows in Canada and maybe go back to Europe for selected arena dates…. but besides that, we're pulling off the road 'till summer of 2011.

"On a side note... Just so you all know what we go through daily with press. It's always a struggle to get what YOU have to say and not what THEY want you to say in the press. This is nothing new, but check this clown out. I did an interview with The Wall Street Journal. You would think they would be smart enough not to hire a stupid writer for such a reputable newspaper. I agreed to do the interview because it was supposed to be a piece on 'the business of Crüe Fest 2' and I'm really proud of what we've created and the way we are able to offer a full-day rock experience for the fans for the price of one MÖTLEY show. Nonetheless, he kept asking lame question after lame question, I keep directing him to what we're doing right now and what the interview was really about, which at that moment was about working on a huge production, top to bottom, putting together a huge festival for rock fans and making sure all 10 bands on tour were happy and getting what they needed. I also told him we're trying to keep details of the production we were about to launch quiet so opening night is just that for the fans, like opening a X-mas present.

"Somehow, the interview got into talking about Twitter and I explain to him my thoughts and OVERexposure through TOO much info on the net… Of course, he turns it around that 'I hate the Internet' and you just scratch your head and wonder, why would a guy do that? Worse, why would The Wall Street Journal hire someone with such a small brain?…

"MÖTLEY was one of the first to use the internet to get information to fans, using downloads (free and paid for) to get our music around the world, to offer exclusive content to our fans, etc, etc… Before music players became popular, we were the first band to endorse one called Real Player (which became Rhapsody), so it doesn't sound like we hate the Internet… But we do hate doing press with people who twist the story to make a gossipy headline to make themselves look like they have the inside track at the expense of the fans and the artist.

"The essence of the point I was making (as I spoke on my iPhone with all of its new cool apps) is that there are elements of the Internet that I think are not cool — like why do people need to know where someone is at the moment or what they are thinking that second — on Twitter.

"I'm off to go do emails and to get this up on my MySpace page (strange for a guy who The Wall Street Journal says 'hates the Internet').

"I wanted to check in and let you know that we had a blast last night in Camden and look forward to seeing all of you, at the shows or on the Internet... Hahhaha..."

I don't care if Nikki Sixx uses the internet or not. He is making sure that everyone knows he likes it, I guess he feels like he needs to do that. I hope I can catch Motely this summer, I really need to go to a concert and hang out and get wasted.

I'm pretty sure that credit could arguably go to Marillion.

I agree, I use the Internet a lot and I realize the irony of using the Internet to bitch about the Internet but it wastes quite a bit of time. Every one is involved with their lives on the Internet that they almost forget about reality. They crawl inside their computers when their world the true world around them is crumbling. People don't even have true relationships anymore. The internet has brought everything closer and destroyed the individual relationships we all have. Instead of someone sitting down with someone face to face and talking to them they send a message to someone that don't even really know or spent much time with. If you think about it could be considered the new plague. Slowly destroying everything and the world that created it.

....I'm better off now that I know this.

As for the internet chatter, I prefer the internet over TV - but I'm also smart enough to filter through all the BS on the 'net and realize what's real and what was put there by some wanker!

Man, you all sound like a bunch of old curmudgeons. The internet is what you make of it. I am sure people said the same things about television when it came out, and yet humanity kept on going. Instead of complaining and yearning for the "days of yore," learn to adapt. The ability to ignore is powerful (hell, you can go ahead and ignore me!)

Glad he dont hate the internet. He just hates doing interviews with people. I'm pretty sure bands get sick & tired of getting asked the same questions over and over and over.

Nikki been's using the Internet to promote himself and Motley Crue since the mid 90s. I remember him posting to Usenet in the Motley Crue and other groups back in 1994 at least. He used his real email address, too. You could actually send him an email and he'd reply. Useless trivia - the first time I heard of Korn was when Nikki was raving about their first album on Usenet.

Different times...

Nowadays, kids that don't even use a computer for anything useful, they feel like they must be on the internet 24/7 because advertizing told them so. Give it up already.

This isn't really about Nikki Sixx or whatever, but rather for those whining about the internet turning to shit.

I've been using the internet at least since '95. I may be in a minority here, but guess what? I don't give a fuck that the internet is full of retards. I can choose who I communicate with. I don't care that the internet is full of idiocy, pop-ups, viruses and whatever else - anyone who knows what the fuck they're doing can steer clear of 99% of the bullshit. It certainly sucks that it's saturated with crap to a point where it's sometimes hard to find any credible info on anything, but even that you can get around. The internet is about FREEDOM. Freedom for every fucking toothless idiot in every trailer park in Alabama to spew whatever nonsense they want, and FOR ME TO HAPPILY IGNORE THEM. If you DO know what you're doing, what are you whining about? If you don't know what you're doing, learn, or deal with it, how hard could it be? How about the cyber bullying act, punishing you for HURTING SOMEONE'S FEELINGS on the net? OH MY, someone I don't know, never knew, never will know or even meet said something MEAN to me, I think I'll go cut myself. I'm sure all those whining about the internet turning to crap will be ever so happy when all the proposed censorship is applied and you have to pay for the websites you visit, when every website you visit is essentially a sub domain of some major conglomerate, and any 'fringe', alternative news posted or read means YOU'RE AUTOMATICALLY WITH AL QAEDA. Internet 2 is NOT the solution. For those of you seriously wanting 'less freedom' or more control of the internet, I silently pray you'll get hit by a bus. I'm pretty sure I can still say that.

You guys are missing the point...the Internet is an immensely helpful communication tool and source of information, etc. etc. It's not my fault if you spend most of your time on youtube and forums populated mostly by horny, angsty adolescents.

But yeah, Nikki Sixx really does sound like an old curmudgeon here.

...got it right. Why should press be a promotion tool for artists? Media should be critical and make questions that artists don't want to hear. Otherwise articles are just adverts. Well, most of them are nowadays...

I'm sorry about my English.
