SEBASTIAN BACH Seeking New Bassist, Guitarist - July 21, 2009
Former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach has issued the following update:

"THIS is an update I wish I never had to write.

"I am on the lookout for band members in the GUITAR and BASS positions in my band .

"I HATE CHANGING BAND MEMBERS. If it was up to me, I would never change band members. It takes a long time to develop chemistry between band members and I have never taken that simple fact lightly. The reason 'Angel Down' [Bach's latest solo album] came out so good is that we captured a band that had been playing together live on the road for a couple of years at least, even being on tour mere days before we started recording that album. Same goes for [classic SKID ROW albums] 'Skid Row' and 'Slave To The Grind'.... Those albums came out great because we were together all the time, playing, rehearsing, writing, all the time, every day.. not because we wanted to. Because we needed to. Not because we were getting paid, because we weren't. We played music for one simple reason: Playing music was (and is) our life.

"Ask any musician, and they'll tell ya: one of the hardest thing about this 'business' is finding the 'right' band members. I can remember being in VELVET REVOLVER for about 15 minutes or so (about three weeks, actually) and the thing I loved about that experience (working with Duff McKagan especially) is that those guys had at least 30-40 songs on the demo CD Duff gave me, and all of us had one goal in mind: creating some great music. That's it. We rehearsed at Mates for five hours at a time. No one asked, 'How much am I getting paid to rehearse?' 'Who's paying my gas money to write this song?' etc. The subject of money never came up. We rehearsed, wrote songs and hung out together because we loved playing more than anything else, and are happier playing music than doing anything else.

"Since then, the guys I have had in my band have seemed to have gone on their own separate ways. I was forced to turn down five shows this summer: Gods Of Metal, Sweden Rock, Metalway in Spain, and two shows in Quebec, Canada with my heroes KISS. The unbelievable reason I had to turn down these killer shows was simple: I could not get ahold of all my band members, or I could not afford financially to pay my band to rehearse and do the shows. This situation can never happen again. I love the band on 'Angel Down', but now that album is three years old. Despite my repeated emails, phone calls etc...we have not come up with a single new song in three years now. This situation cannot go on.

"I am looking for musicians who love to play and create new music. Who need to play music. Who live to play music. I cannot make a good album when I have to pay all the band members to rehearse. I simply cannot afford to pay a musician to sit down and write a song with me. I myself have never once been paid to rehearse, or write a song. I do it because I love it.

"I do not understand the mentality of some of the musicians I have worked with, who demand payment to rehearse, to get better, to sharpen their craft in order to destroy the whole world on big stages and in the studio. In my mind, a good musician, a true musician, LOVES to rehearse, plays all the time, because they want to get better. Not individually. As a BAND.

"I am not saying I don't want to ever play with the 'Angel Down' guys again. On the contrary, they all know I would love to get crackin' on some new sounds with them right now. But they are all busy, or worse, I can't get ahold of them. The official word from the guitar and bass player in my current band, through management, is, 'Call us when there's some gigs.' What they don't get is, my heart is not just into playing the old music right now, my heart is always in creating new music and putting out another CD. Then there will be tons of gigs.

So specifically, what I am looking for is:

* Guitar and/or bass player in the New York City/New Jersey area. Backround vocals are a plus. We rehearse in New Jersey, so the closer the better. This doesn't rule you out if you are from somewhere else, but with the amount of jamming I like to do, relocation may be necessary.

* Someone who doesn't need to get paid money to rehearse, write songs, appear in videos, or do promotion. Basically the way it works is , if I get $ , you get $. Sound fair?

* Valid passport is required

* No criminal record

* No drunks, heavy chain smokers, or druggies need apply. All band members must be completely sober at all gigs and rehearsals.

* Should have at least some 'road experience.' Again, this doesn't rule you out if you are Dimebag Darrell or Randy Rhoads at the age of 17 (or any age, for that matter), or the unknown 'Adam Lambert' of lead guitar. But honestly the chances of me taking someone around the world for the first time are extremely slim. I had one band member that smoked cigarettes so much that he threatened passengers in an airport in Germany because he couldn't 'go have a smoke.' Goodbye!

* Drummers need not apply. I am very fortunate to have the best drummer in rock, Bobby Jarzombek, here in this band to stay. When we were offered the five shows this summer, Bobby replied with an enthusiastic, 'Yes, let's rock', within minutes. That's what I'm talkin' about! There are also two drummers locally that we can rock with. If every band member was as pro as Bobby, it would be the best band ever. He is the standard, as anyone who jams with him knows.

* Internet tryouts are preferred. If you have a MySpace page with songs, pix , videos etc, that is perfect . Email links to 'Bach Band' at: sebastianbachangeldown@yahoo.com. Or you can mail a promo package with CD & or DVD to:

Bach Band
PO Box 215
Lincroft NJ
07738 USA

Packages will not be returned.

* Don't try to impress me with playing old skid row songs. That is the easy part. It just ain't about 'what happened in 1991' anymore. My intention is always to create new music that is better than anything I have ever put out. That will take every ounce of time, passion, commitment, heart, balls and fury we got. If you think you can write a better song than '18 & Life', 'I Remember You', 'Youth Gone Wild', 'American Metalhead', 'Monkey Business' or 'Stuck Inside', I wanna meet you. I'm sure the writers of all of those songs can write even better songs than those. But, they do not ever show any new music to me, or write any new music with me. Truth is , I am bored as f**k right now. Does anyone want to rock?

"Bring it."

I don't know why the old Skid Row can't just reform. It's probably for the better, not everyone can deal with Bach's ego.

You're 40 years old (or so). Make the fucking call. Do you want to be in a band of EQUALS now??

Anybody that knows about rock and is anywhere between 35 and 45 years old KNOWS that you've just got to make the call.

Humility sucks, but only until you realize that it was the only thing you were missing . . . and the car starts right the fuck up.

Who'd pay to see a reunited Skid Row?? ALOT of motherfuckers would, that's who.

Make the call. I know you read this stuff. I've got a little bit of inside information . . . not much . . . but I know that ole' Jimmy Southworth is gonna be the hard one.

Make the call. THOSE motherfuckers live in Jersey.

This guy cracks me up! He hates when his detractors bag on him, and yet he gives them SO MUCH material!!!

--Those albums came out great because we were together all the time, playing, rehearsing, writing, all the time, every day.. not because we wanted to. Because we needed to. Not because we were getting paid, because we weren't. We played music for one simple reason: Playing music was (and is) our life.

Translation: I'm looking for guys to throw themselves into my project full time who I don't have to pay! 'The music' is the reward!

--I can remember being in VELVET REVOLVER for about 15 minutes or so (about three weeks, actually)

Oh God, he has to brag about THIS! Dude, you weren't 'in' Velvet Revolver, you auditioned. Slash decided you made the band sound like Skid Row and showed you the door!

--and the thing I loved about that experience (working with Duff McKagan especially) is that those guys had at least 30-40 songs on the demo CD Duff gave me, and all of us had one goal in mind: creating some great music. That's it.

Notice how he's swinging from Duff's nuts but doesn't mention Slash since his meal ticket Axl doesn't like Slash. And yeah, sure, the guys in Velvet Revolver didn't make any money. OK, whatever.

--The unbelievable reason I had to turn down these killer shows was simple: I could not get ahold of all my band members, or I could not afford financially to pay my band to rehearse and do the shows.

Those BASTARDS! They worked for you and expected to get PAID? Why those greedy fucks! Yeah, if you don't pay your band members to work with you, they stop returning your calls, deadbeat!

--We rehearse in New Jersey, so the closer the better. This doesn't rule you out if you are from somewhere else, but with the amount of jamming I like to do, relocation may be necessary.

OK, you have to relocate for an unpaid gig. And as he likes to jam so much I guess having another job would be out of the question. Good luck finding THAT trust-fund kid who's stuck in the 80's and can play guitar!

--Someone who doesn't need to get paid money to rehearse, write songs, appear in videos, or do promotion. Basically the way it works is , if I get $ , you get $. Sound fair?

Um, NO!!! You're still living off royalties from records from 1989 and a bunch of stupid VH1 shit. You think guys are going to write your songs, be at your beckon call 24/7, appear in videos, play on albums, tour and promote your shit and should there be any money (remember the big sales from Angel Down???) they'll take whatever you deem fair? Good luck with this one you IDIOT!!!

--No drunks, heavy chain smokers, or druggies need apply. All band members must be completely sober at all gigs and rehearsals.

That's right! Sebastian has the drunken asshole thing taken care of himself! Don't need anyone swigging his wine! All band members must be sober at rehearsals and gigs -SO YOU CAN PICK BAS' DRUNK ASS UP AFTERWARDS!!!

--I had one band member that smoked cigarettes so much that he threatened passengers in an airport in Germany because he couldn't 'go have a smoke.' Goodbye!

Yeah, imagine a belligerant asshole looking to fight with everyone! You know Bas wants none of THAT! Clearly this guy should have just thrown a bottle at someone!

--Drummers need not apply. I am very fortunate to have the best drummer in rock, Bobby Jarzombek, here in this band to stay.

If he was the best drummer in rock he'd have a better gig!

--Don't try to impress me with playing old skid row songs. That is the easy part. It just ain't about 'what happened in 1991' anymore.

So you know???

--My intention is always to create new music that is better than anything I have ever put out.

Wow! Setting the bar high!

I don't know what you're going to do, Bas. Maybe call your buddies in Anthrax - I understand they need a singer!!!

...but anyone in your SOLO band is just that, a hired hand.

It's not a group of 4 or 5 friends starting off together as equals trying to conquer the world... it's YOU hiring a bunch of guys to play your legacy songs and any new material you come up with.

The reality is, since CD sales aren't what they once were, even if you're cutting in your hired hands fairly on the writing/publishing, it's not going to be enough to pay real-life bills for these guys. It's not like you're teaming up with big name guys who have their own fan draw. You may be set financially, but I'm sure these guys are not, nor are they teens or guys in their early 20s without a care in the world.

As for VR, you've actually slagged on Slash in the last couple of years, now all of a sudden it was a positive experience? To loosely quote Slash from his book, your audition made it sound more like a "sum of the parts" of GnR and SR, rather than as something new, so they collectively felt that it wasn't working out. I can't imagine that they would change their minds now, so you don't have to pepper them with compliments now... you might hurt Axl's feelings.

You say it's all about the music, but you get FYE to issue a "deluxe" version of AD with a bonus live DVD several months after the original release, and then implore your fans to run out and buy it, double-dip on AD. Yeah, for 5 live songs... I could see if it were a full concert.

I'm a fan, but your press release reads very, very silly... and hypocritical. A reunion tour is probably your best bet... and I'm sure you won't be so upset about not playing new material on such a tour.

because he sat around doing nothing with his band, and Rob DeLuca, his bass player at the time, needed a gig so he could pay bills. UFO offered Rob their tour and he took it because Baz didn't have any solidified plans. What would you do? Rob likes Baz, but needs an income too.

Bach is a talented guy with a lot more good music left in him, but it sounds like he doesn't have the $ to stay where he wants to be, best of luck man, I'll be waiting to see what new musicians and the next disc bring.

How's about getting Jr. (Ellefson) on bass??? Though he'd prob want $$ & is in AZ, so not a likely choice.
Wonder if Sab's going to put out that country album since he won on that show.

This is funny. He said he turned down those festivals due to money? Or was it he'd be the first act on in the hot ass sun with only 1/4 of the crowd there? Then he goes on whining about everything. Dude, your royalties a year are more than most of us make WORKING. Fuck off, you whiney bitch. Play the bar circuit, a la Tramp, Adler, Quiet Riot, Warrant, Ratt and all the others from your era that finally realized it's time to move on and you aren't going to fill even half of an arena. Those guys in Skid Row are way too smart and mature to take your ass back. Look around at all the other 80's and 90's bands that got back together because of the $ that was laid on the table. They would obviously remain happy than make a quick buck and deal with your ass again. I got an idea...reform Supergroup! Maybe book a co-headlining tour with Rockstar: Supernova. Oh wait, they sucked ass too!
