KATATONIA: New Album Title, Release Date Announced - July 23, 2009
Sweden's KATATONIA has set "Night Is the New Day" as the title of its long-awaited new album, due in Europe on October 19 and in the U.S. on October 27 via Peaceville Records. 13 tracks were reportedly laid down for the follow-up to 2006's "The Great Cold Distance" (out of which 11-12 songs will make it onto the final CD), with the new material being described by the band as "our most varied, diverse and possibly strongest shit all together on one and the same album."

"The Great Cold Distance" was released in 2006 via Peaceville. The follow-up to 2003's "Viva Emptiness" was recorded at Fascination Street studios in the outskirts of Örebro, Sweden and was mastered at the Cutting Room in Stockholm.

KATATONIA's live performance from 2006's Summer Breeze open-air festival in Germany was released as a double-disc live album/DVD, entitled "Live Consternation". The "super jewelcase" packaging features both the audio on CD and the show on DVD (including both 2.0 and 5.1 versions). The artwork was once again designed by Travis Smith and closes the visual concept for "The Great Cold Distance" phase.

Video footage of KATATONIA's March 28, 2009 concert at club 1Rock in Moscow, Russia can be view below.

If ever a band needed a vigorous return to past glories it is this one.

The last CD was pure tedium in musical form.

The albums where they produced monotonous, melancholic and dense music. Then they turned onto regular song structures.

But the title is great anyway. And I liked the previous one so I'll be checking this one out as well.

October could not come any sooner. I also miss the Tonight's Decision days. Last Fair Deal is probably their best work.

My faves are The Great Cold Distance and especially Last Fair Deal, so I'll probably love it, if it's moving forward from that line of composition.

As a fan since their old doom days their newer material is always better than their last album. They have a great band with an amazing drummer which is the main element lacking on a lot of their older albums. I am sick of those cliche people who have to say a band's current stuff is not as good as their old this is not the case with this band period. They are playing tighter and heavier than they have in a while and the songs are a lot stronger.
