JUDAS PRIEST: Florida Concert To Be Filmed For Upcoming DVD - July 28, 2009
British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST will film their August 17, 2009 performance at the Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida for a DVD that will be included in a forthcoming expanded 30th-anniversary edition of their 1980 classic, "British Steel".

As they have done at all of their U.S. summer dates this year, PRIEST will perform the "British Steel" album in its entirety at the Seminole Hard Rock Arena.

Tickets for this show are now on sale via Ticketmaster.com.

Fan-filmed video footage of JUDAS PRIEST's July 21, 2009 performance at the PNC Pavilion in Cincinnati, Ohio can be viewed below (courtesy of "ToxMetal").

JUDAS PRIEST kicked off its "British Steel" 30th-anniversary tour on June 29 at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis, Indiana. Vocalist Rob Halford recently told Noisecreep, "It's like suddenly, thirty years have come upon us and we're about to celebrate. The album's technical anniversary is April of next year, but want to start the party early."

Halford added, "In today's economy, all artists have to think of something to do differently. We decided that this would be a great opportunity to do something that PRIEST has never done before, which is to play an album in its entirety. The band and the name 'JUDAS PRIEST' have both been around since 1969, so it is our fortieth anniversary, too. We seem to be in a constant celebration mode!"

Along with 1982's "Screaming for Vengeance" and 1990's "Painkiller", "British Steel" has long been considered one of metal's all-time classics. It was with this release that PRIEST truly broke through to the masses, with a pair of tracks that have become fixtures on rock radio — the enduring anthems "Breaking the Law" and "Living After Midnight". But like all classic albums, there is not a single weak track detected on "British Steel", as evidenced by such standouts as the perennial concert highlight, "Metal Gods", as well as "Rapid Fire", "Grinder", "United" and "The Rage", among others.

Produced by Tom Allom, "British Steel" was recorded at the Tittenhurst Park in England — which is a mansion owned at the time by former THE BEATLES member Ringo Starr, and previously owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. In 2001, the album was remastered and reissued with extra bonus tracks, and also was the subject of an in-depth study as part of the popular "Classic Albums" DVD series.

They should have just returned to where Heavy Metal parking lot was filmed and captured that on dvd and send out an invite to everyone who was involved. that would have been cool

Well let's just hope that this ends up better than Rising In the East.

I was very excited for that DVD when it was announced, but viewed clips of it online and never bought the fuckin' thing. Talk about a sluggish, uninspired performance from just about everyone involved, plus no extra features. Just awful.

PLEASE PLAY A LOT FROM NOSTRADAMUS TOO! Or at least play that in its entirety and film it at another show!

Well be ready to be disappointed because I think your expectations are unrealistic. Yeah, I wish their "Rising in the East" had some extras but I think it is a very enjoyable and solid DVD and I actually own it. Is Rob's voice the same as it was back on the Screaming for Vengeance tour, no and he'll admit it. Not sure what some of you are looking for if you've seen them perform in the past. Rob was never David Lee Roth doing jumps from the drum riser. But then again, DLR isn't the Metal God either.

Nah, I saw Priest on their 2005 tour in Connecticut, and they were fucking awesome. The band was energetic and Rob was in great voice.

I dunno what happened...maybe it was jetlag from traveling to Japan, but the "Rising...East" show was fucking weak, and Rob's voice seemed VERY tired.

I know it sucks when a band schedules a DVD filming months in advance since it requires a lot of production, and then the singer ends up having a blown-out voice, or someone else in the band is under the weather...

...but you're putting a product out that's gonna outlive the band. Don't just throw any old footage out there and call it a day.

Rising in the East is one of the worst live gigs i've ever heard, fucking horrendous performance, especially by Rob. Unleashed in the Studio can also suck my balls, live album my ass.

If you want the best Priest performance where the songs are actually sung well, get Live in London

what are you guys complaining about - rob and the band sounded fine on rising in the east, rob's voice was a bit strained at times but nowhere near "worst live gigs i've ever heard" status, unless you haven't seen that many shows. I prefer him singing in his style now than how he sounded in the 70s/80s

Halford did have a cold at those Budokan shows. They were going to take performances from both nights for the DVD, but Rob was really rough on the second night so they used only the first night. That is the risk of filming only one gig. And, even though Priest is doing pretty well they, and most bands, aren't going to pay for a film crew to follow them for weeks.

That said, I like Rising in the East because 1) It's Priest, and even on off nights they are still an awesome live band and 2) It shows how professional the guys are. Halford felt like crap but sang his guts out.

People give Kiss a bunch of crap for playing a small place, it seems to be a double standard here, peoplr look for any reason to hammer Kiss, but its ok for Priest to play a small venue, Priest plays the arena on the fairgrounds the night after kISS, well i guess Kiss plays it tonight and Priest oplays it tomorrow,

I love Rising in the East. Have watched it countless times. One of the better edited metal dvd's imo. At least you can focus on the band members for a few seconds unlike the majority of modern releases where the camera moves around so much it's nauseating. Motorhead's Stagefright is unwatchable. Looking forward to it.

great time for a DVD, I think...

I like the setlist alot. - some knew stuff form the A.O.R. lp. like 'worth Fighting' which I particularly like & Hellrider. Judas rising. do ya like that, I'm a rocker song. yeah from Ram It Down. killer. I think hot rockin' is on there. I know someone said they really like that version of it. and etc. Great DVD to owne.

Now will they only be releasing it in France??? guess I have to buy a region free DVD for the Metallica releases. lol. Rob is great (could be better) on this DVD and will be even better from the live clips I've been hearing here.

Have you seen him/?

Caught the Priest/Whitesnake show in San Antonio and it was a great night of pure rock. Whitesnake were the best band of the evening. JP seemed to be tired and going through the motions. Priest were much better when I caught them in 2005 and 2007. I'll buy the British Steel 30th anniversary package. I hope the remastering is better than those God awful 2001 discs. I also hope the concert film is release in Blu-Ray format as well. DVD is so 1999!!

Personnally, i really enjoyed Rising In The East. Rob's voice was really good on the accoustic version of Diamonds And Rust. The camera shots were great. K.K was on fire. The only thing that bothered me a little bit is that Rob was allways leaning over. Did he had back problems at that time??? Travis shooting his drumsticks 15-20 feet in the air.....Freakin' cool.

...where to start in replying to posts in this thread?

1.) Rising In The East is a very solid DVD. Rob's voice sounded good (though he was even better this tour) and the band was locked in. I do think the best thing about it is the setlist choices and variety of camera angles. Rob just kills on the acoustic version of Diamonds and Rust. No denying that. Glad I own it.

2.) Anyone who slams Unleashed in the East needs to go back to Metal 101 class. So what if it was punched up in the studio. It's a landmark album. Deal with it.

3.) Whitesnake were better than Priest in San Antonio?!!! I've watched the clips, and talked to friends who were at that show (two of which told me it was the best Priest show they've seen there over the band's last four visits) so I have to question that. But hey, if that's how you see it ... ooookay. Sorry to hear that man. Whitesnake were ok in St. Louis, but Priest steamrolled them in every way imaginable. (Looks like you guys got the song Hell Patrol in place of Rock Hard, Rock Free that we got early in the tour)

I've caught excellent Priest shows in 2005 and 2008 (loved the setlist!!), but this year's show was easily the best in terms of energy, presentation and performance. I can't wait for this British Steel cd/dvd package to come out, I just wish the dvd also contained the rest of this tour's set.

Rising In The East hardly qualifies as awful...in fact I find it quite awesome! Great release..just a concert from the best live band in the world! Not Iron Maiden...Judas Priest is the BEST live band out there and this British Steel tour has confirmed that yet again.

Rising in the East is a great Live DVD. Anyone complaining about the fact that there are no special features on the disc have clearly forgotten that it only cost around $15 bucks when it came out.

Halford's voice sounds very good on the DVD, all things considering. Sure, there are some rough spots here and there, such as when he sings Painkiller. However, this drawback doesn't come close to trumping the other performances, which are, for the most part, quite good.

Halford leans over because it gives him better air support when he sings. If you pay attention, you can see that he mainly does it when he is getting ready to unleash one of his trademark metal screams.

The band sounds great on the DVD. There is no need to argue this.

I saw them in Jersey at PNC, and the place seemed to be packed. PNC holds around 17,500 individuals. I assure you, it was a beautiful sight seeing so many people rock out to the Priest. British Steel sounded amazing that night, and was easily the highlight of the entire show. I highly recommend everybody and anybody to catch this show if they get a chance...even if they do not know who Priest is.
