ZAKK WYLDE To OZZY: 'Man Up And Give Me A Phone Call And Tell Me What The Hell's Going On'

On Wednesday, July 29, Carl Sundberg from Eugene, Oregon's 101.5 KFLY radio station conducted a phone interview with Zakk Wylde ( BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE). When asked about his status in Ozzy's band and recent reports that Osbourne was auditioning other guitarists for his solo group, Zakk said, "I've gotta be honest with you. The boss [ Ozzy] hasn't even given me a phone call, so I mean... I'm just like... I don't know what's going on over there. Are we doing this thing or are we not doing it? When I keep getting asked these questions, I go, 'Call the boss. When he tells you, then he can call me back.' I mean, it's just like... I love you, man. Whatever you want, that's cool. But if we're doing this, let's do it, and let's whoop some ass. But if you don't wanna do it, then just give me a heads-up. Call me, man. Tell me what the hell's going on. I don't know what the hell's going on over there. We're working on the new record, we'll be back in September, we'll work on finishing the record. And then we're supposed to do the tour. I mean, it's like, dude, you don't wanna play with me anymore? Fine. Play with whoever the hell you wanna play with. I couldn't give a rat's ass. Like I'm gonna get all jealous or whatever. But you know what?! Man up and give me a phone call and tell me what the hell's going on. You finished with me? Cool. I mean, it's just like... Everything's sounding like BLACK LABEL? [Referring to Ozzy's claim in a recent interview that his solo albums were beginning to sound like BLACK LABEL SOCIETY due to Wylde's involvement with both projects — Ed.] I guess everything sounded like BLACK LABEL when I first started with you, when I was 19. It was still the same guy; I don't know what the hell you're talking about." Zakk's rambling response — including a 30-second, expletive-filled rant directed at Ozzy (which wasn't transcribed above due to extensive bleeping) — is available for download as an MP3 audio file at this location. Ozzy told Classic Rock magazine in a new interview (stream audio in YouTube clip below) that he's on the lookout for a new guitar player, apparently to replace Wylde. Ozzy appeared late last month as a guest at Slash's headlining concert in Norway, where rumors indicated that he was lining up ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5 to take Wylde's spot. Ozzy didn't deny the rumors, saying, "Well, I'm getting a new guitar player as we speak, and everyone has been saying to me for a long time, 'Get Johnny 5!' And I tried him at one time and I didn't really give him a chance. We'll see, I don't know." As for why he wanted to break away from Wylde, who has played with Ozzy on and off since 1988, Ozzy said, "I haven't fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk's got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like ( Wylde's band) BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. I just felt like I wanted a change, y'know?" Ozzy also indicated that he was auditioning a guitarist from Greece, but declined to give further details. The former BLACK SABBATH singer has been working on his latest solo album at his home studio in Los Angeles, He said that Wylde had recorded material for the project, but added, "I don't know if I want to use it." Wylde seemed unaware that he might be out of a job, posting on his Twitter account, "This is news to me." Wylde joined Ozzy in 1988 on his "No Rest For The Wicked" album, replacing Jake E. Lee. He has played on every solo Ozzy album since, although he was replaced in the touring band from 1995 to 2001 by Joe Holmes. wow he sounded really pissed off at the end, and I dont blame him. I would have thought that he is at least owed a phone call. I think its pretty shitty of Ozzy to treat him like this, if what Zakk is saying is true. Im sure a lot of people will now blame Sharon for this situation, but in my opinion, Ozzy has got to take responsibility.

My guess is that this is part of Ozzy's "new found" sobriety (again). I'm sure having a blistering drunk Viking on tour with you doesn't help your sobriety. He's said himself Sharon sent him to rehab but he jumped the fence after a day and went home to have a beer.
Maybe Ozzy doesn't like being around drunk dudes !! Like I mentioned before, I'm sure his sobriety is tempted seeing Zakk shotgun beers on stage.

I was expecting this to happen, I knew eventually Zakk would start getting really pissed. I do believe that the new guitar player idea is coming from Sharon but I'm sure the Oz man has the final say. It is wrong for them to be treating Zakk this way. They should call him up and tell him what is going on. He has every right to be upset he sees The Osbournes as family and they are treating him like a pay for play guy. Zakk has always been loyal to Oz he deserves a phone call. Ozzy doesn't have much left in him, if he is going to get a new guitar player now he needs to be really good. He needs to be a heavy player with some great song writing skills. I love Zakk and I'm a huge fan of BLS and Ozzy but I hate to see this going on between them. They are a team, a great team and have been for a long time. If they are gonna split then fine they need to handle it professionally and let the fans know what is going on. I would love to see another Ozzy show with Zakk and hear another GREAT album but if not the next guy better be fucking good. Whoever it is I'm sure will be the last guitar player Ozzy has so like I said the guy better be damn good and bring some life back to Ozzy's music.

Remember the old pics of Zakk, with his hairsprayed hair and his dimple filled, smiling face. Was that what he was referring to when he said "where I come from"? This guy was lucky enough to picked from one of the thousand good guitar players to play with Ozzy in 1990. I thought No Rest For The Wicked was a damn good start. No More Tears was damn good as well. The playing on those 2 albums were the perfect examples of a young, up and coming guitar player. right after that, he grew a beard to cover up his dimples. where's a rag to cover his blonde hair and gained 300 lbs. and during that process didn't do anyhting new or different on his guitar. The same shit, over and over again. The same riffs, same leads, same fills. Ozzy needed a lap dog. He found Zakk. Thank God that partnership is over. Ozzy's newer stuff definitely isn't his older stuff but at least on his next record there'll be something different about the sound. I'm looking forward to it. Oh.....and Sharon is the perfect example of a person that should've never been born.

that the only reason people go to an Ozzy show is for Zakk are fucking retarded man.
Ozzy's music is timeless. He's always been known for grabbing different guitarists. Back in the day, people were saying Ozzy was finished without Black Sabbath, Randy, and on and on.
However, since its so close to the end of Ozzy's career, he really needs to create a masterwork, and I feel this can be done with the right guitarist helping write songs. Someone back to the blues based stuff and screw this downtuned electronic fart shit that is unfortunetly prevelant.
Ozzy doesn't need to re-invent the wheel...just put out a classic metal album.

Truth is Zakk's playing has become redundant and extremely repetitive. He's a very talented guitarist who is trying to be something he's not...that goes for image, personality and his playing.

First Black Labels albums were good...yet, it became repetitive..I stopped caring...it just became stale...JOHN 5 is a hell of a player...but, hes better off with Zombie...
Ozzy's last album sucked...and his time is soon over...yet its sad...(AND ANYONE CAN BLAME SHARON) that its taken 12 years since new Original Sabbath Material...and it took what..a year?!...maybe less for Heaven & Hell...
OZZY...your an icon...have your life made...but the world doesnt revolve around you...and as you were born..with nothing...youll eventually die alone...being hated...

Cause he's like a big baby "talk to me, daddy... tell me it's not true... hold me..." Or like a ex-girlfriend saying "why don't you call me? don't you want to be with me anymore?" They are both right in a way. Yes Ozzy needs a change. And I'm not talking John 5 here, someone new. I didn't care much about the last couple of Ozzy albums. But I think he should find some fresh blood for something new. On the other hand, Zakk was very loyal to Ozzy, I think he at least deserve to know what the hell is going on with that.

Remember on all those sit-coms of times past where a guy would somehow have 2 girls lined up for a date and he just couldn't get himself to break it to either one? Ozzy's caught in a no win shituation. He wants to have a new start but he ain't got the guts to say anything to Zach - especially now that a big deal is made about this.
Just to pique anyone's curiosity about the way Ozzy has acted less than fair to band members, do a search on BMouth for Bernie Torme concerning when shortly after Randy died he was drafted as a replacement. He didn't get much for the gig as I recall and he put his own solo career on hiatus to do Oz a favor.
Anybody ever see that episode of Ellen Degeneres where a very young Japanese boy plays some Ozzy song really well done only to have Ozzy walk out and freak the boy out? If this 'Gus G' thing doesn't work out we'll know who the next in line is. He probably will work for next to nuthin'. And it'll be Sayonar, Zakk!

Ozzy played with Camp Freddy and heard how good Dave Navarro sounded doing Randy's parts. It's on youtube he sounds way better than Zakk. Ozzy realized he neededs an upgrade at guitar after that.
