SKYCLAD: 'Words Upon The Street' Video Released
- July 31, 2009
"Words Upon The Street" , the new video from SKYCLAD, the seminal British band which is often referred to as "the originator of folk metal," can be viewed below. The song comes off the group's twelfth album, "In The… All Together", which was released earlier in the year via Scarlet Records. The CD, which was recorded and mixed by Dario Mollo (THE CAGE, VOODOO HILL) at Damage Inc Studio, in Ventimiglia, Italy during August 2008, "mixes the usual thrash/speed metal influences with the extraordinary folk melodies that made the band famous all around the world, maintaining a fresh and dynamic approach which gives a strong live dimension to the new songs," according to a press release.
Formed in 1990 by Martin Walkyer (SABBAT) and Steve Ramsey (SATAN, PARIAH), SKYCLAD gained extraordinary attention from both the press and the public with the now-legendary debut album "The Wayward Sons Of Mother Earth" (1991) and, since then, has built up a solid reputation which led them to take part in some of the most important international metal events (such as the renowned Dynamo, Wacken, Gods of Metal and Tuska festivals) and share the stage with some of the most respected artists of their time.

I don't know, it sounds the same, but I lost faith when Martin left.

I agree, I miss Martin Walkyier's lyrics and his vocals were a big part of the sound. This new song sounds pretty good though, I like the rougher edge to the vocals on this one (probably because it sounds more like Martin!).

I love their classic material with Walkyier as much as anyone, and I gave them up for near-dead when he left. However I was very surprised and pleasantly so, for their post-Martin material has been extremely strong and enjoyable. Lyrically, it's not as intense and clever, but musically the band is great and I really like Ridley's vocals. Martin's vocals are an acquired taste, to be sure. I like both versions of the band. But regardless, musically their post-Martin material is great and kudos to them for carrying on in such a strong fashion after losing such a huge frontman.
over the last album. The rougher vocals will surely appeal to the old fans. The music is traditional skyclad, with the amazing NWOBH guitar of STEVE RAMSEY...A CONSTANT ARRAY OF GREAT RIFFS THERE STEVE...

head over heels better, than martin's piss poor, clan destined. martin didn't write any of the music and acted like a primadonna, especially towards the end.... He hasn't done much with sabbat either, than perform live - rehashing the old material. No new stuff. I doubt if it would be as good as the older stuff too...if they ever decided to do another.
This is more, contemporary material - yet it maintains a recognizable pattern and the trademark riffing and violin melodies that identify it instantly as skyclad... kevin, doesn't have any problems, singing harshly and he doesn't have any speech impediments either. I like it a lot ! Certainly better than the embarashing folkemon...
yet magazines and fans treat the band unkindly... and it just goes to prove that steve vai was wrong... the audience is not listening !
DO CHECK the last too - Martinless albums...you 'll see that they're pretty good infact..... if you can find em ofcourse !

Fyi, Martin is known because of his LYRICS, he wrote ALL of the lyrics in Skyclad, right? Steve did the music and has forged that trademark MUSIC sound, and that is why you can STILL listen to it now. So, your point makes no sense. You haven´t read any shit about his lyrics to say so, have you? I haven´t seen anyone state so cleverly, ironically and precisely his thoughts in his English sense of humour in songs, besides his voice. I miss those lyrics but I will listen to their new stuff without him, though I know it will NEVER be the same.
If he moves in a particular way or not, that´s your opinion, but his influence has been, and still is, very important.
