ALICE IN CHAINS Performs 'Check My Brain' For First Time; Video Available
- Aug. 2, 2009
|
|
Fan-filmed video footage of ALICE IN CHAINS performing the new song "Check My Brain" for the first time ever last night (Saturday, August 1) at Marlay Park in Dublin, Ireland can be viewed below. The band's setlist was as follows: 01. Rain When I Die02. Angry Chair03. Man In The Box04. Them Bones05. Dam That River06. A Looking In View07. We Die Young08. Would?09. Check My Brain10. Rooster"Check My Brain" is the first single from the new ALICE IN CHAINS album, "Black Gives Way To Blue", which arrives on September 29. ALICE IN CHAINS has tapped U2 and WHITE STRIPES video director Alex Courtes to shoot a clip for "Check My Brain". Fans and members of the press heard "Black Gives Way To Blue" in its entirety at a private listening party in Los Angeles on July 14, followed by a three-song acoustic set by the band in which it debuted two songs from the album live — the title track and "Your Decision". Although it's been posted online and is not an official single, the recently released ALICE IN CHAINS song "A Looking In View" has already begun climbing the rock radio charts as the first new music released by the group in 14 years. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell told The Pulse of Radio what the track was about. "The song is kind of generally about how easy it is to remain in a bad groove (laughs), you know, remain in a bad rut," he said. "The most difficult and at the same time easy thing is just to step out of it, you know what I mean? It's like being in a cell that you're locked in, with a door that's not locked. That could be anything, you know. It could be any sort of behavioral or thought process that keeps you there and basically keeps you from growing." The group's tour starts on September 4 in Washington D.C. (Thanks: jaysus)

If this is the new song they played on xm this week dont hold your breath its garbage. AIC was about laynes struggles, hearing a scab trying to recreate this is sad.

It is obvious you know nothing about AIC as Jerry Cantell wrote just as many lyrics as Layne if not more and yep he IS STILL in the band. I have been into the band since 1990 and were my favorite until they stopped making music I tried to be the bitter old retard like yourself but have grown to accept that if they want to make music and even Layne's mother supports it then why not give it a shot.

What's with this new term 'scab' that everyone's using to describe replacements in bands. 'Scabs' in this context would imply strike breakers, not replacements. Especially in this case where the original member died and did not just quit to go solo or whatever. Staley couldn't get his shit together and sadly it killed him. To imply that the rest of the group doesn't have the right to continue because of one members demise is not fair...especially in this case where the guitar player wrote the MAJORITY of both the music AND lyrics. Letting a junkie dictate your life's work is not a good idea!!

People use "scab" for Tommy and Eric in KISS because they are wearing the makeup of the previous band members and pretending to be people they are not. To call someone who comes in to fill the role of a deceased member a "scab" is just retarded. Obviously, he is doing a kick ass job in an almost impossible situation. Like the guy above said - Layne is gone and he ain't coming back. Deal with it.
Jerry did the majority of the work in AIC, anyway. And it was his vocal harmonies with Layne that gave them such a unique sound. Well, HIS vocals and writing are still there, so chances are this new record will be awesome.

This is beyond my wildest hopes. A new Alice in Chains record... a band back from the dead... Jerry Cantrell will get a rib-shattering hug from me if I ever get to meet him.
In all honesty, I'm still stunned that they're back. The day this album comes out, I'm taking off work and doing nothing but spinning that glorious album.
I could NOT care less what anyone thinks. I love this band beyond words.

Good song but I still think they should call it a Jerry Cantrell solo record instead of AIC, just my opinion. Willie Duvall is good but he can't replace the power, the soul and the hurt in Layne Staley's vocals. Layne was a flawed being, a tortured soul, but his pain fueled him as an artist and his vocals soared above all others, except for Chris Cornell who was his equal.
I know that it's not a fair comparison, comparing William to Layne, but it's an inevitable comparison because they're using the AIC name. I'm not boycotting the album or anything, I'll definitely check it out, but it doesn't quite feel right to this young man.

Then I'm sure the people posting on here feel the same way towards Brian Johnson of AC/DC......since he replaced Bon Scott. Back In Black is arguably the best ablum ever done by AC/DC and Brian Johnson sang on that album.....but wait he is a "Scab" because he replaced a legend...give these guys a chance with Duvall. Cantrell wont let you down....go listen to his solo stuff. Cantrell is as much of AIC as Layne was.....no disrepect to Layne....his vocals were unmatched as Bon Scott's were to AC/DC.....but Brian Johnson has done a great job once the torch was past to him. From what I have heard from Duvall....I think he will do Layne proud and not dissapoint us AIC fans.

For some reason, I wasn't all that impressed with "A Looking In View". Not sure why, too long and drawn out I guess.
This one sounds pretty good. I saw these guys open for VR in Toronto a couple years ago, and it was amazing. They are definitely back.
This Duvall guy is good, but Layne was just amazing. I will definitely feel like the main part of this new music is missing.
First day buyer either way.

Yeah, thats basically what this will be. A Jerry Cantrell band. Not that they deserve any less respect, it's just that Layne's voice is a prett big signature when I think of "Alice In Chains".

even with the crappy audio, you can tell all of the elememts of classic A.I.C are there. You know a song is good if you can pick up the groove and cool melodies through a crap sound device. Talent just cuts right through that shit! I am impatiently waiting patiently to hear this album.

Layne was a junkie. A hard core drug addict who had everything a human being could wish for achieved, and pissed it all away. Was he a great singer? Yes. Was he a great song writer? At times. Was he a great performer? Not really. Look, as much as you might have loved the old AIC, the fact remains that Layne was a junkie and was not strong enough to face life sober, so he let it kill him. That's not Jerry's fault or anyone elses for that matter. So they went out, found a new guy who sings just as well, and is not a junkie. They are ready to release what could end up being their best album ever, for all we know. Hopefully Layne was able to conquer the demons in death, that were able to defeat him in life.

thats interesting, I thought he was a human being. So, that was his one dimensional personality was it? Just a junkie with his head up his ass, eh? So, his life was what every human being should wish for huh? Does that mean fame and money? If you pay attention, those two things, mixed with childhood trauma/wreckage = a tormented soul (for many, not all of course).
So you are going to judge him because he wasn't strong enough to face life sober? Everybody should be just like you or some shit? Please...you are another one of these screwballs that think all problems stem from moral character, which is why the republicans don't get it and obviously neither do you Mr. Bauer.

wow. that is some quality rambling when you start off with Layne Staley and end with the republican party.
And Jack, did you ever see AIC when Layne was around? I saw them twice. They were fucking amazing so when you rip on Layne's ability as a performer, you lose IQ points to anyone who's paying attention.
Lay of the weed before you post gentlemen.
Layne was a junkie but we still miss him.
