FIREWIND's GUS G. To Perform With OZZY OSBOURNE At BLIZZCON?

BLABBERMOUTH.NET has received word from a couple of different sources that 28-year-old Greek guitarist Gus G. ( FIREWIND) has been tapped to play with OZZY OSBOURNE at the upcoming BlizzCon convention in Anaheim, California. It should be noted, however, that this information has not yet been corroborated by anyone in the Osbourne camp and should be treated as a rumor only. In addition to his current axe-slinging duties with FIREWIND, Gus (real name: Kostas Karamitroudis) has played in MYSTIC PROPHECY, NIGHTRAGE, ARCH ENEMY and DREAM EVIL. Ozzy told Classic Rock magazine in a June 2009 interview that he was on the lookout for a new guitar player, apparently to replace Zakk Wylde. He also indicated that he was auditioning a guitarist from Greece, but declined to give further details. As for why he wanted to break away from Wylde, who has played with Ozzy on and off since 1988, Ozzy said, "I haven't fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk's got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like ( Wylde's band) BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. I just felt like I wanted a change, y'know?" In an interview with a Eugene, Oregon radio station on July 29, Zakk slammed Ozzy over his Classic Rock comments, saying in part, "I've gotta be honest with you. The boss hasn't even given me a phone call, so I mean... I'm just like... I don't know what's going on over there. Are we doing this thing or are we not doing it? . . . I mean, it's like, dude, you don't wanna play with me anymore? Fine. Play with whoever the hell you wanna play with. I couldn't give a rat's ass. Like I'm gonna get all jealous or whatever. But you know what?! Man up and give me a phone call and tell me what the hell's going on." Wylde's answer after that abruptly turned into an obscenity-filled rant directed at Ozzy that had to be heavily bleeped by the station. The former BLACK SABBATH singer has been working on his latest solo album at his home studio in Los Angeles, He said that Wylde had recorded material for the project, but added, "I don't know if I want to use it." BlizzCon is a semi-regular convention held by Blizzard Entertainment to celebrate their major franchises: Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo. This year's event will be held August 21-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Gus G is an excellent guitarist and I can well imagine Ozzy wanting him in his band but I hope this won't fcuk up Firewind. If Gus can do some shows and get a nice payday writing with Ozzy then more power to him but only if it is a sideline to his day job.

I have not heard much of Gus G. (though i am certainly a fan of his style of metal) but I will certainly check out more of his work. Judging by this clip he certainly has the goods! If he does indeed join Ozzy's band it seems like hed make a good addition. Also I wouldnt be surprised if hes the Greek guitarist thats been rumored. As he is probably the most well known Greek metal guitarist, at least internationally. Maybe within Greece itd be a little different (for example: Aria in Russia is one of their most well known bands but Arkona is more well known internationally I would say).

My take is this - Ozzy's always hired young gun guitarists to play with him. Zakk has been the only guitarist to later have a solid career after Ozzy (Badlands was great but sank quick, Night Ranger plays geriatric halls, and I have no clue where that other guy went to) and it really is time for the two to part ways. Zakks songs with Ozzy sound like BLS...? Well fuckit, just write for BLS now since the music is pretty solid.
Legacy with Ozzy and tough guy biker image aside, i really do like BLS because they write some good classic rock songs. I think BLS might have the longevity that the other Ozzy ex employees wished for. Good tunes are good tunes.
Or maybe Zakk will just shoot Sharon in a budweiser filled rage and fuck up everyones careers.

and so will BLS. Zakk delivers the goods and that's what matters.
It is very unprofessional of $haron and Ozzy to dismiss Zakk (who is supposedly like family and there wasn't a "falling out" that brought this on) in the way that this is going down. Most guitar players have a certain style and tone to their music. Randy had a particular style, as did Jake. Hell, had I not known who's name was attached to the "Load" album, I still would have been able to discern that Kirk and James were on guitar as while the music changed, their sound remained similar to all of the earlier material. So for Ozzy to say that his music was sounding like BLS is sort of moot. It's Zakk, it's his style.
Uncool move #2, lawsuit against Iommi and now the screwing of Zakk. Such a shame.

This guy can shred! I had heard of Gus before but never heard any of his music. I think he world definitely light a fire under Ozzy's ass and bring life back to his music. I agree that they are going about this the wrong way, keep things under the lid until everything is said and done. BLS is Zakk Wylde and that is his stlye, so he isn't going to change. I'm a huge fan Of Ozzy and Zakk, I hate to see them part ways but if this changes Oz's music for the better than good. Ozzy doesn't have much left in him, the guy needs to put out a slammin album before he hangs it up. I believe Zakk and Ozzy could do it but there is a connection between BLS and Ozzy's music. Zakk is starting or trying to sound like Ozzy but it is natural it is where he comes from. So Ozzy feels like the only way to completely change his sound is to separate from Zakk than that is what needs to be done. Zakk can completely focus on BLS and Ozzy can focus on his music. When the Oz man is gone we all know Zakk will take over the throne, it is inevitable. I'm sure he will be doing Ozzy songs in his set either way for a long time.

I had a bootleg CD of some guy that was pretty damn good..or at least that show he was "money".
$haron might've given OZ a 2nd life, but she has milked that one dry. She destroyed a good chunk of his legend. Sad

Night Ranger opening for journey is a nostalgia show plain and simple. More power to Gillis and the fans, the money is great, but still, nostalgia and not anything more. I know bands make a career these days on nostalgia (Poison, etc etc) but my whole point above was that Zakk's career is not based on nostalgia. Who cares about Night Ranger. Slash is a great guitar player but he would play Ozzy's classic stuff so sloppy it would sound like shit. Slash is a blues player, a great one but Ozzy needs a metal guy. Ozzy has always brought out the young guitar players and showcased them to the world. Zakk is getting older and that means Ozzy is losing a part of his fan base younger metal kids that start playing guitar because of Ozzy's guitar player. I can guarantee you if Ozzy picks this guy there will be a huge group of kids that start playing metal.

Has now arrived in the American mainstream..I've been waiting years for things like Helloween getting popular again here, bands acknowledging Iron Maiden after years of thinking they were a "hair band back from the 80s", and now this? I have mixed feelings. But its better than the 90's no guitar solos, (with the exception of Dime and Zaak) groove metal, nu metal, boring repetitive dull lack of melody rap metal fuck fest that really hammered shit music in the mainstream.. so I have to say I'm happy with harmonies being in metal again instead of CHUG CHUG CHUG and animal noises - (im talking about the US Mainstream, not the underground or Europe)

Ok this guys good but a Zakk Wylde he is not and probably never will be. There is only 1 Zakk and if Ozzy thinks that by replacing him he is going to get back on top or sell more records he is sorely mistaken.
Ozzy fans who still by his records and go to the gigs are going to see Zakk shred. I mean Ozzy is not able to put on a show anymore, he always does and says THE SAME THINGS. Whether the new kid Gus G or whoever will be the new guy...wouldn't matter in the long run. Ozzy's solo career legacy is already in place...Rhoads, Lee, Wylde. Good luck to Gus on making one album. I believe his style is best with his own band, Firewind. There's always been a "bluesy"/hard rock" element in Ozzy's solo past. Why can't he realize to go out on top with Zakk for ONE last album?!....like 'No More Tears!" Rather, than...go out and find another guitar god...when there's already a hell of alot. If Zakk's out, what a way to put a strain on that 20+years of loyalty the man put in. On the bright side...Zakk might as well put out the best BLS album of all time. Good luck to Ozz and Zakk!

Hopefully, Gus G. will get the job. And it would be nice if Jake E. Lee came back as well. I think the 'double axe attack' would work very well for Ozzy.
By the way, doesn't Ozzy need a new drummer, now that Mike Bordin is doing the Faith No More reunion?
Ozzy on vocals, both Gus G. and Jake E. Lee on guitars, Rudy Sarzo on bass and Tommy Aldridge on drums. That would be killer.

Gus is a great guitarist - very professional as well as down-to-earth and friendly. This is well deserved.
Interesting how the Zakk fanboys' comments reek of the same caveman mode of expression as their idol. All the correctly worded and reasonable input is of the "good, time for a change" variety, and the two-digit IQ:ed nonsense is from the "ZAAK IS GOD!!1!!!" crowd.

If Gus G. is on the next Ozzy album I will purchase it inmediately. I have not bought an Ozzy Osbourne album since "No rest for the wicked" as I dont like Zakk that much. I think Gus G. is a fantastic songwriter and a virtuoso on the guitar. His style of playing will resurrect Ozzy Osbourne!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never heard of this Gus G guy until today. I crawled out from under "MY ROCK" and looked this guy up. I spent about two hours watching and listening to him via the net. He is good and has a unique style. If Ozzy gets Gus G he ought to grab the keyboard/guitar player as well from Firewind. That guy is great and I believe Ozzy's long time keyboard player retired.
I remember not to long ago the Ozzy camp pulled a similar publicity stunt, and held auditions for a new guitar player. MTV picked it up and ran with it playing Zakk's BLS Stillborn song in the back ground. A sh*t load of young kids showed up and $haron made $ and wasted all those peoples time. So here we go again. Media a buzzin, some people love the idea some hate it. It all works to the Ozzy camp$ benifit.
I hate $haron as much as any one else. She was the one who pulled all that crap on the other bands. (Priest and Iron Maiden)No way you can convince me that the OZ or Wylde knew or played any part in that. [Hey Zakk, if your gonna snap some necks, start with $haron, count to ten, and see if this bullshit ends.]
I dont understand why some hate Zakk. WTF? What are yall pissed about? This guy is a machine! Hard working, album cuttin, touring, guitar shredding, beer slammin machine! Hell he created BLS and it has blown up all over the world. I wear my colors and have berserkers come up to me all the time with respect for our founder. I think it was smart on Zakks part for comming up with the idea of the society. He is making money for his family doing what he loves and employes alot of people. He even donated a million bucks to a cancer research center for children. WTF have you hater's done?

I mean I'm a huge fan and have all the albums and dvds and stuff but lets be honest here. his act never changes only his band members seem to.

BLS DO sell-out gigs, dickhead if they didn't they wouldn't be touring for fucking months at a time every fucking year without fail. And do sell fuckloads of albums or they couldn't really keep making them how many are we up to for BLS 9 or 10 so wake up and smell the shit you're spinning.
And as far as my statement "ZAKK WYLDE IS GOD" he is to a shitload of people and thats just he way it is. You don't have to agree, you can keep living in your little world or whatever but Zakk is a GREAT musician and that is a fact and if you don't agree well each to their own and a real musician or a music lover would acknowledge that at the least.

I am Greek,I'm a fan of FIREWIND,I've seen them live 3 times and I am very proud that Gus is taking this place.
He is definitely the right guy,maybe the most able to fill Zakk's worn out rock n roll boots!
He has the chops,the riffs,the blues playing,the shred but he also has the ability to compose in different styles and always making GREAT SONGS!
if Ozzy decides to give him some space in composing then the next Ozzy album will be a totally blast-be sure for it!
The other guitarist of FIREWIND,Bob Katsionis,with whom I've been working for long now in my music,was telling me that "something big is gonna happen for FIREWIND this summer" but i could never imagine it would be THAT big!
Go and get them Gus G!!!!

Good move on Ozzy's part. Hope he goes through with it this time.
I haven't respected Zakk since the 357Custom scam in 2005. His last BLS album was garbage. I think he's just washed up.
If Ozzy's gonna keep doing it he should get a whole new band and make a kick ass record. Maybe he can't do it live so well but he can still do it on record.

I gotta say, I am a HUGE Ozzy fan, and have been for over 20 years. I even have a tattoo of Ozzy that he signed, and I had tattooed on.. Now that said, I am a huge BLS and Zakk fan as well, and I gotta say that Zakk has given this man 21 years.. Doesnt that count for something.? I mean, Zakk is just an amazing Musician, really one of the Greats of all time, and aside from that, Ozzy is Zakks sons Godfather for christsakes. I mean, is that how you treat familly, you take a knife to there back... !! I mean, Ozzy is, and was the best musically, but I gotta say that this is unforgivable, I have met Ozzy, I have been to maybe 30 shows etc.. But if this is true, I am done with him, I cant continue to put my faith in a man that would disrespect, and screw what has been like a brother to him, and for what! over nothing.. Ozz said it himself.. I got news for him, everytime he pulls this crap, and makes an album without Zakk the album is garbage, and Ozzy complains about it, and says he could have done better, well hes right, he could have.. Its called using the man that gave him his crarrer back.. Zakk.. Ozzy was flailing big time, and Zakk put him not only back on the map, but made him OZZY.. Its just disgusting, and if this is all true, then may this next record nt sell 5 albums.. He deserves it.. I said my piece.. I hope its not true.. SDMF Strength Determination Merciless Forever.. Ya dont turn your back on familly.. One day he will learn this friggin lesson..

the one thing going around now is a video where Ozzy indirectly asks people to post there video demos., if he truly wants to make a great record and feels that his been 70 is a late mid age crisis, then he better find many guitarists to collaborate, like Eddie Van Halen and not Goerge pussy lynch or wankers like Steve Vai or Reb Bitch, Ozzy can find new kids on the block, Randy students, pupils, people who can do what Randy would of dreamed of seen coming after him, which would of changed music instead of milked crazy train for 25 years with out givign one cent to the Rhoads family.
