Iowa's ROCK GONE WILD Festival Officially Canceled - Aug. 7, 2009
According to a posting on the web site of "House of Hair", the syndicated 1980s hard rock/heavy metal radio show hosted by TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider, Rock Gone Wild — the four-day rock festival scheduled for August 20-23 in Northwood, Iowa — has officially been canceled. Just last month, the festival organizers had moved the Rock Gone Wild festival from Freedom Park in Algona to the Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood.

The Rock Gone Wild organizers have issued the following statement regarding the event's cancelation:

"Rock Gone Wild, an Iowa-based LLC was informed by Diamond Jo Casino, LLC legal counsel on August 5, 2009, that 'the event cannot take place anywhere on the licensed premises.'

"Due to Diamond Jo Casino, LLC refusing to honor its obligation to provide the venue, we are unable to produce the event as planned. This matter has been referred to legal counsel."

Among the bands that were scheduled to appear at Rock Gone Wild were SAXON, JACKYL, WARRANT, TWISTED SISTER, SKID ROW, LITA FORD, DOKKEN, GREAT WHITE, KIX, L.A. GUNS (featuring Phil Lewis), CANDLEBOX and SEVENDUST.

Tickets were overpriced and the line-ups were too hodgepodge anyway. In this economy these guys would be better running a small one day festival or even club show and getting the local classic rocker to sponsor. Des Moines is the perfect place for that kind of thing. I mean if pseudo-Journey and Heart can sell out at $50 a ticket alone a one day festival at Waterworks Park with just a few of the bands on that line-up could kill.

That looks like a fun lineup, it's a shame that the rock and roll fans in Iowa are getting screwed over. Hard working Americans deserve a fun rock and roll show, especially in this day and age.

Plane tickets and other (expensive) arrangements were made by both ticketholders and the bands. Somebody's gonna be in for a heavy duty lawsuit.

It's pretty fucked up how they changed the venue just a few weeks ago, after a year of planning, and now the new venue refuses to let them use their space? Bad karma?

According to one article I read, the promoters pulled out of the original location without any notice and without any communication... the Algona, Iowa police and chamber of commerce planned for a year and then had to hear about the change when the Rock Gone Wild promoters issued a press release about moving the festival to the casino.

Dokken and Saxon need to do a co-headlining US tour. Dokken and Saxon would be a package made in heaven. Hell yeah.

Bands that come out for mediocre festival like this, no matter how big or small the band may be, is cool. I truly respect these guys (bands and event organizers) for trying to make it happen, even if it won't draw crowds like it would in LA or NYC.

The venue was half-empty at Central IL Metalfest when I went, but the bands still fucking tore the fucking place up and I had a fucking blast. And there were some legendary bands playing those nights like Master and Immolation. I presume the ratio of crowd to space of the festival would've been same at this Iowa thing, but the bands would've still gave it their all...

the bottom line is : it didnt sell...
this is not overseas with alot of young fans that are willing to do/go anywhere/anything... most of us are in our 30's,40's, and 50's !!! we have careers and children. we cant just pack up and go for 4 days . and where are the headliners ?? i love a number of these bands and see them here in mpls when they come to the clubs and theaters. but none are a huge arena draws. they should have made it a one day event like ozzfest or cruefest . would have sold alot better

Hey,

I bought 2 platinum tickets , actually never felt so betrayed. I'm still in aw. Should have had a clue when they started selling tickets on lay-away play last month. Or the town printed on the ticket called jinx.

Locally a lady scammed the local fair board out of a few hundred thousand and got 15 years prison.

Some state representatives need to be contacted about this, there were thousands of tickets sold of different levels and you can not tell me a percentage of that money is not sitting in a bank account gaining interest.

It just amazes me that I have not received 1 phone call after purchasing 2 of 500 platinum ticket.
I tried to email the lawyer and that email does not exist. This seriously is totally not right, maybe next week we will see some action, I contacted the local TV station and they did not know anything about it. Our local cable company is seriously still running the promo clip.

If I was any corporate sponsor of this venue I would be seeking answers.

Is this a show of how weak the people of the U.S.A has become that thousands of people will sit back and get totally ripped of by this scam, by a few greedy individuals.

We have no support what so ever or answers other than supposedly from a lawyer whom I have yet been able to contact.

If that guy on another forum with 20,000 for a lawyer is serious he must be as pissed off as me if I had a 100 grand sittin around Id have these scum bags prosecuted some way or another. It is principal and non-professionalism not the money that matters to me.

All ticket holders!
Call your credit card company and chargeback your order. This is probably the only way you will get your money back. They are trying to stall until all credit card transactions are over 6 months old and can not chargeback. After they stall you, I bet you that you will never see a dime.
