GOD FORBID's COYLE To Fill In For LAMB OF GOD's MORTON On METALLICA Tour - Aug. 11, 2009
GOD FORBID guitarist Doc Coyle has revealed to EMG TV that he will fill in for LAMB OF GOD's Mark Morton on the Richmond, Virginia metal band's upcoming U.S. tour with METALLICA (as well as LOG's headlining "off" dates), which is scheduled to kick off on September 14 in Nashville and conclude on November 15 in New York City.

Morton did not perform with LAMB OF GOD at the last six shows of the group's recently completed European tour as his wife was expecting a baby. UNEARTH six-stringer Buz McGrath stepped in for these dates, which included an appearance at U.K.'s Sonisphere festival.

EMG TV's interview with Doc Coyle, which was conducted on July 10, 2009 at the Mountain View, California stop of this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, can be viewed below.

For a list of the LAMB OF GOD dates with METALLICA, go to this location.

As previously reported, LAMB OF GOD, GWAR and JOB FOR A COWBOY will play around two dozen shows in the U.S. this fall on "off" days during LOG's tour with METALLICA.

God Forbid should open for Metallica.
I hope Doc will make a good impression on them.

I don't think b'mouth knows anything gear wise. It's all regurgitated word mostly. Hell I don't even think a 1/3 of the posters here can actually play an instrument! I bet most of them are great at guitar hero though. Posers.

DOC taking Mark's place should be interesting though. I'm sure he can do it. Mark's guitar parts sound a lot more difficult than they really are. Not to take away from the fact they are awesome no matter how hard or easy they are. They are very well written and arranged too. I'd like to see Doc's take on the songs tho.

GOD FORBID Guitarist Replaces Mark Morton As LAMB OF GOD's Permanent Guitarist -Aug 12, 2009

"God Forbid should open for Metallica.

A lot of Metallica fans that I've spoken to said that they dislike bands like God Forbid/ LOG, saying the vocals of both bands are "difficult to get into".

This tour will never live up to Summer Sanitarium

I hope this guy can pull it off, I'm not into God Forbid. I'm going so I can see Metallica again, but Lamb of God and Metallica in the same show should be exciting. At least Chris will still be behind the drums...

Why would these guys schedule to tour during this time when they knew 9 months ago that this was coming.

Thats a HUGE step to take man. From Mayhem w/ God Forbid to LoG headlining their own shows AND opening for Metallica. Wonder what the difference in pay is to be honest.

Doc handles all the leads and solos for god forbid, some of which are pretty tough, especially on the new album. so im sure he can handle marks parts no problem. plus the fact that all the guys in god forbid and lamb of god have been friends and playing together since the late 90s.

i'm going find tickets to see this!

lead wise, i think mark and doc are pretty similar. neither of them are super technical shredders like a rusty cooley or jeff loomis but rather more of a "feel" lead guitarists and one that puts more emphasis on outside the box thinking than run-of-the-mill sweep patterns. rhythm wise, doc is as tight as anyone out there.

Dude, you pretty much nailed it about Doc. As if he doesn't already know how to play a lot LOG stuff on his own anyways. You always learn your buddies' and heroes' material. He is more than capable to handle the business, and I heard a radio interview with Morton a few months back and I remember him saying that God Forbid are like family to them because they go back so far and are all so tight with each other. No way would Morton pick Doc to do it if there was any chance he couldn't "handle it". Shit, without a good enough replacement he either wouldn't take his parternity leave, or they'd cancel their commitment. But you don't tell Metallica, "Nah, man we can't do it". That'd be dumb. Same goes for Doc.

As for the genius who asked why did they commit to tour with Metallica when they knew 9 months ago that Morton's wife would be giving birth...try to think outside the narrow box your small brain sits in and figure it out. Why do people ask questions that they could easily answer themselves if they had more than 2 brain cells? Boggles da mind.

I was at Sonisphere, the one in Finland and Buz McGrath (Unearth guitar player) filled in for Mark Morton in that show, and actually he kicked ass, he played the songs really well, the guitar solos were perfect. Anyway, i have to say that of course i would've liked Mark to be there. It's not the same. But LOG gave everything on stage, and the show was great! LOG Rules!
