SLAYER Drummer Says 'World Painted Blood' Will Be Released In October

HeavyMetalSource.com conducted an interview with SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo on August 12, 2009 at the West Palm Beach, Florida stop of this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Around the four-and-a-half-minute mark of the chat, which can be viewed at this location, Lombardo reveals that the band's new album, "World Painted Blood", is tentatively scheduled to be released in the first or second week of October. SLAYER recently made another track from "World Painted Blood" available for streaming at Hot Topic's ShockHound.com web site. The limited-edition single, a Kerry King composition, is titled "Hate Worldwide", and is available exclusively as a CD-single at Hot Topic stores. "It's a really cool track, and Tom's voice sounds incredible on it," said King. "The last line in the song's chorus is '..spread a little hate worldwide,' and that's what we've been doing for 25 years." "World Painted Blood" was recorded in Los Angeles over two time periods, during October 2008 and then between late January and March 2009. The CD was produced by Greg Fidelman, who's spent time in the studio with METALLICA, THE GOSSIP, THE (INTERNATIONAL) NOISE CONSPIRACY, SLIPKNOT and others, and executive-produced by longtime SLAYER colleague Rick Rubin, who suggested Fidelman for the project. SLAYER — Araya, guitarists King and Jeff Hanneman, and Lombardo — is currently co-headlining the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival with MARILYN MANSON, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, among others.

What happened? Psychopathy Red sounded pretty decent and then that garbage appeared. The intro riff sounds cool if a bit rehashed and after that, the song falls flat on it's face. The verse riff is terrible, the drumming is far beneath Lombardo's standards, Araya sounds bored and there's always the terrible soloing though that's to be expected. The worst part is the production. Hell Awaits has a better tone than that shit and the drums lack any power especially the bass drums. Fucking hell.

Oh well, can't wait. Let's just hope the album doesn't keep on getting delayed like last time. I remember when I met Mastodon at Mayhem Fest 08, and Troy said that Crack The Skye was going to be out in January this year and didn't get out until March. Granted it was out of his control, but you know.

Actually this was quite below average. Normally, the albums turn out overall alot better than the mediocre singles that are released beforehand.

Christ Illusion pretty much sucked overall. I haven't bothered to listen to that album since I gave it a few whirls upon its release.
These songs they have released so far are better than anything off of Christ Illusion except for maybe Skeleton Christ and Cult was pretty awesome.
I'm really hoping these two are by far the worst of the batch, and then it will be a killer album! But I seriously doubt that. In any event, its gotta be better than Christ Illusion. I'm really hoping for a Slayer album I can enjoy several times a year, like I listen to everything of theirs up to Seasons at least 3-4 times per year.

Yeah, there's an original idea.
I love metal and all but that trend is one that needs to die. Just because it comes out on or around Halloween doesn't make it any heavier or darker.
You know Slayer can release this in a few weeks if they wanted... no reason for the long wait.

All you Christ Illusion haters are retarded. That album was by far the best since Seasons. With the exception of a couple filler songs, that album fucking SlLAYS. Hopefully this track sounds better on CD. I don't think they were double down picking on the main riff which hurts it punch immensely too.

I really don't think 4 guys in their mid-40s are sitting around thinking inside the narrow box that you are: "Hey, if we release it two or three weeks before Halloween, a lot of doucheheads like tenplex will maybe think it's darker and heavier and stuff".

So you hate Kerry because you think you know him, but you don't. And you think that because he speaks his mind (as does the rest of the band) that he somehow thinks he's this macho tough guy that you fantasize him to be. I've never once seen Kerry "act like a tough guy" in the 21 years I've been into Slayer. Everyone who has met Kerry (outside of that douche Dave Mustaine) has said he's one of the coolest, down-to-earth fun loving dudes in metal. My guess is that you're jealous because in contrast you're weak and pathetic. Kerry just has the balls to say what you wish you could say. Deal.

I agree with Jake E Geddy. All you idiots slagging christ illusion ... WTF is your problem? Consfearacy is a great thrash song, Skeleton christ and Cult are awesome, and there are other good tracks too. it's a very good slayer album. But if you're going to cry, ok, go back and listen to show no mercy again for the 500th time.

I gotta say from my standpoint where I saw them perform at Mayhem (barricade in the pit), for a bunch of older gentleman they were tight as fuck live! Outstanding setlist (Disciple the only non-Lombardo track performed). It's a DAMN shame Manson closed that show. He gained weight, treated everyone of his assistants like shit and wasted A LOT of beer. I paid attention and if he put his right hand behind him, he was summoning a towel. Left meant he was summoning a beer. He collapsed twice (only reason why I don't think it was an act, was how hard he hit the floor) AND he needed oxygen twice. He is a hollow-shell of what he used to be that's for sure. Wish I didn't waste the hr of my life.

I like Slayer, even new-era Slayer (i thought Diabolus in Musica was pretty good), but this new song is just terrible.

This track doesn't live up to the hype Lombardo is generating. It still has that annoying shouting style Tom has been using the last 10 years. I thought they were getting rid of that this time around.
Hope the rest of the album is better. Obviously a Kerry song with the Johnny One Note lyrics.

I am getting soooooo sick of the exact same guitar solos being in every single Slayer track - If Hanneman and King can't come up with something different, just drop the solos altogether and give us more riffs!
The song started OK but as soon as that solo started I had to roll my eyes and say "This sh*t AGAIN?!"

My opinion about the release date is, American Recording don't want to put out World Painted Blood at the same time as Road Runner released the new Megadeth it's not good for both band since a lot of people listen to both Slayer and Megadeth. Why dividing sales, we're not in the 90's anymore so none of those band will sell 100 000 copies in the first week and the release date for Megadeth has been determined before, so let's pass a month and release the album, that way it will benefit for everyone.
And for those who critisized about Hate Worldwide and Psychopathy Red, I'm sure that these two tracks aren't the highlights of the album, they are two easy Slayer songs, every member compare this next album to Seasons because of it's diversity and Dave said that this is a slower Slayer album and those two tracks are pretty fast so expect the rest of the album to contain songs in the vein of South Of Heaven, Dead Skin Mask or Seasons and also songs like Expandable Youth or Catatonic... Get my point??

Man, have grown up with these guys and have WANTED to like them because they were part of the big 4, and should be respected. And I do respect them. But don't like the tunes, simple as that. Same old nonsense, lousy guitar solos, same boring lyrics, and same fairly boring vocal style. Lombardo is the best part of this band; he is a monster. But man, just not hearing why we should all bow at their altar...
