MEGADETH: New Song '1,320'' Available For Streaming - Aug. 17, 2009
A new MEGADETH track entitled "1,320'" is available for streaming at the U.K. Roadrunner Records web site. It can also be heard in the YouTube clip below.

Commented MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover: "I remember hearing the riffs for this tune from Dave's [Mustaine] 'Pandora's box of metal riffs,' KNOWING that this song had to be on the record. I really like the overall punk vibe the song has (I was a huge hardcore punk fan back in the day — D.R.I., CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER and the lot; I still am to this day) and I knew that a big sector of our fanbase would dig this song. Like I have said previously, 'Endgame' [the new MEGADETH album] covers a lot of musical ground in metal and '1,320'' is just another example of that. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

Due on September 15 via Roadrunner Records, "Endgame" was recorded at the band's brand new, self-built studio in San Marcos, California — Vic's Garage — which was named after the legendary and iconic Vic Rattlehead character.

"Endgame" track listing:

01. Dialectic Chaos
02. This Day We Fight!
03. 44 Minutes
04. 1,320'
05. Bite The Hand That Feeds
06. Bodies Left Behind
07. Endgame
08. The Hardest Part Of Letting Go... Sealed With A Kiss
09. Headcrusher
10. How the Story Ends
11. The Right To Go Insane

"Endgame" was helmed by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine and acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap (EXODUS, NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY, MACHINE HEAD). Sneap also manned the boards for 2007's "United Abominations".

According to a press release, "Endgame" "boasts the technicality, ferocity and snarl that's synonymous with MEGADETH and Mustaine. It's a violent masterwork that represents Mustaine's best work in nearly two decades. In a musical world dominated by bands that make generic, blanket statements, 'Endgame' finds Mustaine, once again, making informed and substantial lyrical declarations about the state of the world we live in."

Commented Mustaine: "Thematically, I've never been known to be a silent bystander in a world that needs our participation. As more is revealed about our former President's legacy, a little-known yet staggeringly frightening document which was signed into law, named 'Endgame', has been uncovered. The album 'Endgame' is the most energetic music offering I have penned in over a decade and is far more believable than knowing someone signed 'Endgame' — the document — into law. The album is also the perfect 'ass-kicking' music to listen to once you are done reading the aforementioned document!"

He added, "This new album is my proudest moment since the famous (or infamous) 'Rust in Peace' album. With this album, I am also very excited to be introducing my new lead guitarist, Chris Broderick, to the world. I have always felt lucky to have had top shredders in that position, but after touring with Chris in support of my last album, I couldn't wait to get into the studio and see what he could do."

MEGADETH filmed a video for the song "Headcrusher" on July 28 in the Los Angeles area. Mustaine previously described the clip — which will feature mixed martial arts — as "'Gladiator'-meets-UFC-meets-inside-of-Dave-Mustaine's-brain."

U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine and The Quietus have both posted track-by-track reviews of "Endgame". Check them out by following the links below:

I was a huge Megadeth fan, especially of Rust in Peace and Peace Sells (of course), but I think the best thing would be for them to disband and have Dave et al form a new band with him on guitar and someone else doing the vocals and lyrics. Dave's a good guitar player, but he can't to either of these things well at all.

It's average in every way, just like the other one. I thought the last album was inspired, if not *exactly* inspirational. They obviously meant it, and in spite of the piss-poor drum sound, it was a really good album. These last two tracks though, meh, they just sound like they've been dredged up from some old tape box. There was a reason they didn't make the cut when they were written.

And the production doesn't breathe. I was hoping that Sneap was beginning to get over his eye-popping pedal-to-the-metal...ness, but obviously not.

Anyway, it all sounds too... flat? What was good about the play-off between Mustaine and Friedman was that Friedman was quite at home with unusual phrasing, unusual passing notes and a real mish-mash of tempos, and Mustaine locked it onto the rhythm section tighter than a duck's arse. None of the guitarists since Friedman have had that side of things.

Death Magnetic owns the rights to being a decent 4 song Metallica E.P. with a bunch of other crap thrown on to make it so it is long enough to be called a full length album. We won't even talk about the guitar work that sounds like it was done by a 12 year old in his bedroom who just got his first guitar 2 weeks ago. The worst guitar solos ever.

I'd call this song filler, because it sure as hell isn't killer, nor does it have a memorable riff or hook anywhere in it.

I had such high hopes for this album, but so far it's turning out to be another run of the mill Mustaine effort. He's trying (too hard) to capture that vibe Metallica talked about to get in touch with their roots. I hear elements of So, So Good... but otherwise it's a very stale song.

Dave's endorsing a British amp company (Marshall,) but this tone sounds very German. I'm thinking Dave's using a Diezel amp in his studio. A nice, tasteful touch of chorus on the rhythm tone. Dave has always had great ears.

It's GOOD...by Megadeth "standards." Headcrusher was ok. That's two tracks out of 11 that DOES NOT tell me Endgame is going to crush like RIP (or at that level) at least like Mustaine keep saying. Sometimes its better to say that you're new album is very good rather than "up" to your best work. We'll just have to see come 9/15 but I'm not holding my breath that Endgame will be up to RIP status...maybe I'll be wrong. I don't recall any "filler" songs on RIP...do you? And Death Magnetic was solid....start to finish. With the sound being a little "loud" for some of you.....the whole point was to make an album that has a LIVE energy to it....as was suggested by Rick Rubin. It's tolerable for my tastes and different in that regard. Will Endgame be solid as well....or even better? Maybe, maybe not. We'll all see when it comes out. Competition is always good...especially with the thrash titans.

I just got done skimming Endgame (the full document is 50 pages of legal jargon) and I must confess that I don't get Mustaine's deal. For those too lazy to look it up, Project Endgame is a plan by the Department of Homeland Security to eventually deport all illegal aliens in the United States. Why would anyone be against this? Key word is ILLEGAL, ladies and gentlemen.

Legal immigration is not only permissible, but has been an absolutely fundamental part of building the American "melting pot." However, illegal aliens are parasites on our society, an affront to our laws, and quite often instigators of all manner of criminal activity. Project Endgame sounds like an excellent idea to me, and feels like just another case of an idea being bashed simply because it was supported by President Bush. Lyrically, I loved United Abominations, but it feels like Mustaine is now running out of ideas about which he can be righteously angry.

Its funny how there are so many varied opinions about this song. Just goes to show that music, like just about everything else, is in the ear of the beholder. Although I think that some ears are tone deaf or filled with moldy brain cheese, because this is a GREAT Megadeth song, and already I think it is better than just about everything on DM, besides maybe Nightmare and My Apocalypse.

Come to hink of it, Metallica and Megadeth have always been pretty different, with Mustaine coming from more of a virtuoso/jazzy kinda thing and Hetfield the more straight ahead rythym king. I like Hetfields vocals better too, but not by much.

same old problems - no definition, no peaks and lows. Where is the structure of the song? Where is the feel of the song?
Dave, do you write your music to show the world how fast and great musician you are?

If you don't like this songs, you never liked Megadeth.

This song is what Megadeth should be : jazz feel whit a KIMB riff, fast, speed metal, amazing soloing and Mustaine's unique voice.

And it's always funny that a lot of people bitching says in the same post that Death magnetic is good from start to finish or people that are known to be Metallica fanboy who are just in rage to see Dave kicking Metallica's ass... again.

The entire song, much like "Headcrusher" sounds completely forced, rushed, unoriginal, and boring. If this is the best Megadeth has to offer us after all these years it is time they call it quits.

There is no way this album is going to be better then "Death MAgnetic"

It's okay. I'll buy the CD.

But I haven't heard anything that's RIP-worthy. Where are the endless chaotic jams? Way too much traditional song structure after RIP. This song feels predictable.

That being said, Death Magnetic blows. Metallica blows. Their post-80's material is vomit inducing.

He said:
"Can you stop rambling like an old alcoholic sleeping under a bridge?"

Funny you say that...Because it sums up Dave's current state.

I said it before, now I'll say it more explicity.

The stuff released so far from "Endgame" sounds good. Considering how bad the last several MD albums were, I'm shocked. The band does kind of sound reborn.

I'm not objecting to the music. I'm objecting to Mustaine pushing moronic, paranoid conspiracy theories that are fuelled by his newfound religious extremism.

This is a free country, and Dave's got a right to do it.

And I've got a right to go off on him for peddling this bullshit.

So, Mr. dieu, what do you think about Dave's newfound paranoid style?

my ass! I bet there are fucking wackuh-doos he think this is a viable option, but seriously folks, it will never happen. People are just to venomously protective to let that happen. It would make a good sci-fi movie though.

I like that Dave sings about this shit. Whats even better is that he probably believes all of it...makes the art more honest. I think he is a nut job, but I love him for it!

Oh, and I have a feeling this album will pound for pound beat Slayer's new one. I feel weird saying that, cuz I'm rooting for Slayer, but I think Slayer is just bout done.

Dave Mustaine has always been a crazy asshole with moronic political views. I don't know why you're boring everyone with your awful blogs thinking that you've discovered some new angle. Especially in a comments section dedicated to a song about drag racing. Wait until the album is released then you can do a song by song analysis that no one will read or care about.

Dave's vocalization really hasn't changed much since RIP. Check out "Back in the Day" or "Truth Be Told" from "The System has Failed", or United Abominations from that album. His style is just as sneering and "whiney/nosey" as some call it, as it's always been. Dave fkn rules, nuff said.
New songs are killer, piss on the haters.
Now how's about that Slayer/Megadeth tour for the US. Would be killer, esp if more of the "titans" were on the bill.

the song is not too bad actually. I just have the same complaint as I have with Headcrusher, the drums are soooo boring, plain beat and that's that. No way you can achieve RIP status if the drumming is not up to par.
otherwise I'm happy with finally getting some faster songs!

That tune sounds pretty good. Those solos are impressive. One aspect of the Death magnetic vs. endgame debate that is not open for debate are the solos. While endgame is not out yet, there is nothing I heard from the leads on Death Magnetic that can even touch this. Im looking forward to hearing some awesome solos come September 15th. With the exception of maybe risk, you can always count on brilliant solo guitar playing from each release from Megadeth.

i like both bands, i like the sound of the new songs, i will buy the cd, as im a Megadeth fan. im also a fan of Metallica and bought Death magnetic and i liked the sound of that album too, which was a damn good album. i wont compare the two when Endgame comes out, why would i want to? i dont live in the past, some of you fuckwits do. 26 years later and youre still comparing..again i reiterate, pathetic.

I disagree with many of the posters here in that I think it sounds heaps better than the last album (so far). Simple, straight to the point thrash, no fucking around, which is what we want from Megadeth, and none of his ridiculous political rants, which was what ruined UA, for me anyway.

Are people seriously complaining about the production? And are they the same people saying it's not as good as Death Magnetic? Is this a joke? Sneap is the master of this stuff, if only Metallica had him produce DM (good album, shit production), man, what might have been.

Come on dudes, stop whingeing because this slays and you know it.

i await the day when someone says "yeah, it's good, but it's not as good as "insert classic album here".
