It's Official: GUS G., TOMMY CLUFETOS To Perform With OZZY OSBOURNE At BLIZZCON - Aug. 21, 2009
OZZY OSBOURNE's official web site has been updated with the following announcement:

"Ozzy will be performing [on Saturday, August 22] at the Anaheim Convention Center [in Anaheim, California] as part of the closing ceremonies at BlizzCon '09. However, due to [longtime OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist] Zakk Wylde's current touring commitments with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and [longtime OZZY drummer] Mike Bordin's ongoing reunion tour with FAITH NO MORE, Ozzy will be playing with guitarist Gus G. [FIREWIND] and drummer Tommy Clufetos [ROB ZOMBIE, ALICE COOPER, TED NUGENT] for this special performance. They will be joining current Osbourne band members Rob 'Blasko' Nicholson (bass; ex-ROB ZOMBIE) and Adam Wakeman (keyboards).

"Ozzy loves the challenge of working with new musicians and is enjoying the sound and energy that this band has been producing in rehearsals this week.

"Catch Ozzy's performance as part of DirecTV's pay-per-view airing of BlizzCon '09, which is also available as an Internet stream from www.blizzcon.com."

In addition to his current axe-slinging duties with FIREWIND, Gus (real name: Kostas Karamitroudis) has played in MYSTIC PROPHECY, NIGHTRAGE, ARCH ENEMY and DREAM EVIL.

Ozzy told Classic Rock magazine in a June 2009 interview that he was on the lookout for a new guitar player, apparently to replace Zakk Wylde. He also indicated that he was auditioning a guitarist from Greece, but declined to give further details.

As for why he wanted to break away from Wylde, who has played with Ozzy on and off since 1988, Ozzy said, "I haven't fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk's got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like (Wylde's band) BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. I just felt like I wanted a change, y'know?"

In an interview with a Eugene, Oregon radio station on July 29, Zakk slammed Ozzy over his Classic Rock comments, saying in part, "I've gotta be honest with you. The boss hasn't even given me a phone call, so I mean... I'm just like... I don't know what's going on over there. Are we doing this thing or are we not doing it? . . . I mean, it's like, dude, you don't wanna play with me anymore? Fine. Play with whoever the hell you wanna play with. I couldn't give a rat's ass. Like I'm gonna get all jealous or whatever. But you know what?! Man up and give me a phone call and tell me what the hell's going on."

Wylde's answer after that abruptly turned into an obscenity-filled rant directed at Ozzy that had to be heavily bleeped by the station.

The former BLACK SABBATH singer has been working on his latest solo album at his home studio in Los Angeles, He said that Wylde had recorded material for the project, but added, "I don't know if I want to use it."

The largest event of its kind, BlizzCon is a celebration of Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft game universes and the global player communities surrounding them.

" due to [longtime OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist] Zakk Wylde's current touring commitments with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY"

this sounds like zakk is still in the band just sitting out this show..
also i heard zakk in interviews 4 or 5 weeks ago talking about playing this show with ozzy so he was planning to play it..
BLS shows this weekend notice he is on the west coast and not playing with BLS Sat night.. looks like he could be there..

Aug 21 2009 8:00P Spokane, Washington
Aug 23 2009 8:00P Portland, Oregon
and on Mike Bordin's ongoing reunion tour with FAITH NO MORE,
i think he would be playing with Ozzy if ozzy actually did a tour or more than one show a summer..
two or three shows last summer one this summer
mike bordin is most likely sick of not working

Ozzy should definitely keep this band!! As for Blasko, I'm sure the guy is a good bass player but a lot of the bass stuff on Black Rain was written by Zakk. That is what I read in an interview anyway. It does seem like Zakk is still in, there has been nothing said about Gus replacing Zakk permanently but I think it would be a good move. Zakk could concentrate more on BLS and Ozzy could get a fresh sound. I will try to catch this on the computer or whatever. I would like to know if Gus is in for the long haul or not.

Hello people, this is the standard and shady "1-2" from Sharon. They will do this gig, and then there will be some kind of press release that says, "due to the incredible response and energy these guys had at their performance at blizzcon, Gus G. and Tommy Clufetos will be staying on with the Ozzy Osbourne band. The new vibe is sure to revitalize the sound and create a classic album that is guaranteed to be better than Diary Of A Madman and Blizzard Of Ozz combined". It's shitty cheap pop that gives them a way to fire Zakk and Roddy without taking the backlash from fans.

The fact that Zakk heard NOTHING from the Osbournes just shows that this is calculated, undermining and...well...pure Sharon Osbourne. I so hate how she ruined this artist.

Zakk has said in recent interviews he was up for doing this show and seemed like he was scheduled to be apart of it before this whole Gus G. stuff started. Read any of Zakk's last few interviews about this Ozzy situation and he mentions playing this show. This is fluff by Sharon like the dude above said. This is probably an try out and if Gus G. fits he will get the gig. Zakk is done with Ozzy. Now if he could only make a decent BLS record again instead of the rehash watered down b.s. their last album was.

Here is the thing, I don't like a lot of Sharon's decisions either. I would say I don't like her as a person but I don't know her. I can't say I hate her because I don't know her. What a lot of people forget is that if Sharon would have never showed up at Ozzy's hotel room asking for the money Oz owned her dad Ozzy would be dead! No Blizzard of Ozz, No Diary of Madman, No Randy Rhoads. No amazing solo career from one of the greatest front men of all time. Ozzy was gone emotional and mentally. Lost in addiction and depression and Sharon saved him! If she would not have seen what Ozzy could really be and just left him there to rot imagine all the music we would not have. Imagine the world of music without Ozzy. Imagine the guitar world without Randy, Jake and Zakk!! Nowadays, I do feel like Sharon is a little bit of a puppet master but it is astonishing that Ozzy is still here. Think all the things he has done do himself, to his mind. Like I said, I don't agree with a lot of her decisions and frankly some of the shit she does pisses me off but she saved Ozzy!! If Ozzy chooses to use these guys, great I'm sure Sharon will have something to do with it remember she is his manager. I'm sure it will let a fire under his ass and give us all a truly killer Ozzy album and I'm really excited about that.

Zakk is being bounced from the group. He'll keep making BLS records, and probably end up playing in the reunited Pantera when Vinnie Paul and Phil Anselmo finally realize how much money the can make together.

Puffy Bordin is going to stay with Faith No More, since they too, realize there is plenty of money to be made as FNM.

Ozzy will bring these guys, or whoever, and keep releasing "okay" records, while performing the same old stuff in concert.

Zack's moronic hillybilly antics - psudo biker posing _(he was hunted by real bikers in the UK a few years ago and left by a back exit, while his fans had their tshirts turned inside out)_ and general behavior, make him unlikable.
Ozzy, hasn't done anything good past ozzmosis, that had like 4 good tracks, bar the ballad "dreamer". Everything else sucked.

Gus - is a promising young player, not as utterly amazing as people portray him, but he's good. His band firewind, is not the most original band ever and is an average band. I challenge you to give me some "Firewind Classics" - ie songs that are classics in the Heavy Metal genre, written and performed by Firewind.

I wonder if this weird pairing will work and if it does, to what effect. I guess we'll see. Maybe Ozzy will end up with the 9 yr old Japanese fella, as he'll be cheaper to fly around and milk is cheaper than booze n drugs ! Haja !

PR move on all fronts (except for maybe Zakk). There has been buzz about this for over a month. I normally would have not thought twice about watching this BlizzCon thing. I've seen Ozzy several times and not a fan of the Zakk era. I really don't care to see them go through the motions of playing Crazy Train, No More Tears and Paranoid for the millionth time. But adding Gus G. to the mix creates enough interest that I might even check it out. This definitely doesn't hurt Firewind at the moment, I bet their youtube and web hits are through the roof.

I hope I'm wrong but at the same time I've checked out some Gus G. and Firewind stuff and I have to say that I'm not overly impressed. He is a good player and all but the music is pretty generic and I can't see it fitting in with Ozzy. Ozzy needs someone who can write and arrange really well. I don't see it with Gus G so far. I still think George Lynch would be an excellent choice. Maybe even Ronnie Le Tekro, Nuno B. or Jeff Kollman. Someone with great tone and can write memorable riffs.

I think that a new guitarist is a good idea for Ozzy. I do wonder if Gus G is going to just do some shows and after all is said and done, Zakk is back in the studio recording with Ozzy. Is my memory failing me or has Ozzy done this before? I want to say that he toured a couple times, briefly, with another guitarist and at the end of the day Zakk was still the guitarist in the studio.

Personally, I'd rather see Zakk with Black Label Society and forget the Ozzy stuff. Maybe do another Pride and Glory CD or like someone said earlier.... a Pantera gig with Rex, Vinnie and Phil.

Either way... just give me a new BLS CD... not like that last one

How will the virtually unknown guitarist be able to revitatlize Ozzy's career? Will Ozzy ever be able to figure out the remote control? Anyone who thinks Gus is going to stop Ozzy's downward spiral is just deluding themselves. Check out the footage of Ozzy playing with the little kid. Gus sounds like he's just playing the Zakk version of Crazy Train. Nothing fresh or original brought to the song. Sharon probably made him play the Les Paul as well. I'm a huge Sabbath & Ozzy fan and know that his best days ar far behind him. He hasn't released a fresh exciting album since No More Tears & getting fresh blood isn't going to help. Ozzy is becoming more & more of a novelty act with every performance.

Randy Rhoads wrote all those good songs with Ozzy and partly also because of Ozzy, maybe they would have been completely different with some other singer, maybe better but most likely worse. and maybe he would still have died if he hadn't joined Ozzy's band, just in a different way, you can't just say something like that.
its similar to when people say heavy metal wouldn't have been without Sabbath, but ok there where many other bands and sure there just have been some other heavy metal bands that would have been famous.
its also luck and many other things, but still Sabbath did get metal to the masses first but also Zeppelin and Deep Purple.
but there are bands like Blue Cheer and Iron Butterfly and more too.
but maybe both Ozzy and Zakk need a change, but still you cant get many guitar players that are better live and with better stage presence then Zakk.
