OZZY OSBOURNE has just finished playing a 10-song set at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California as part of the closing ceremonies at BlizzCon. His backing band for the concert consisted of guitarist Gus G. ( FIREWIND), drummer Tommy Clufetos ( ROB ZOMBIE, ALICE COOPER, TED NUGENT), bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson ( ROB ZOMBIE) and keyboardist Adam Wakeman. Nine-year-old guitar prodigy Yuto Miyazawa joined Ozzy and the rest of his group on stage to perform the Osbourne classic "Crazy Train". The band's setlist was as follows: 01. Bark At The Moon02. Suicide Solution03. War Pigs04. I Don't Know05. Mr. Crowley06. I Don't Wanna Stop07. Iron Man08. I Don't Want To Change The World----------------------------------- 09. Crazy Train (featuring Yuto Miyazawa) 10. ParanoidCheck out video footage and photos of the performance below. OZZY OSBOURNE issued a statement on Friday (August 21) confirming reports that longtime Osbourne musicians Zakk Wylde (guitar) and Mike Bordin (drums) would not be joining him for the BlizzCon performance due to their current touring commitments with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and FAITH NO MORE, respectively. In addition to his current axe-slinging duties with FIREWIND, Gus (real name: Kostas Karamitroudis) has played in MYSTIC PROPHECY, NIGHTRAGE, ARCH ENEMY and DREAM EVIL. The largest event of its kind, BlizzCon is a celebration of Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft game universes and the global player communities surrounding them.

Would love to see the video of this! Its cool that Oz is holding the kid up like he used to do Randy. Setlist needs to change though. I know there are a couple staples that have to be there but he can mix it up a little.

I've got a few Dream Evil/Mystic Prophecy CDs, and I'll have to hunt down a Firewind CD or 2. But I have no desire for this Ozzy material. Yawn.
And why does Ozzy care if his CDs were sounding like BLS lately? After all, most of the stuff on this setlist is as old as Methuselah.

Ozzy sounds fucking terrible, but Gus is tearing that shit up. I saw Ozzy back in 1986 with Queensryche, and he was fat and old back THEN. He sounded pretty good then though...23 years took it's toll I guess. Sounds horrible now.

Ozzy should hire a vocal coach to salvage some pride or retire right the fuck now. It fucking kills me to see him like this.
I watched the live stream and the only thing that I liked about it was Crazy Train with Yuto. I'm a big Ozzy and Sabbath fan, but if he doesn't get his voice in shape, then he might as well pack his bags.
During one song, I thought he was going to lose his voice right there.

Ozzy is fucking 60 years old so of course voice isnt always at its best, but still he's better then many new bands out there. and at least he can sing or at least try to sing unlike many of the metal bands of the last 10+ years or so, just scream some shit in the mic that noone understands. and its obvious that laggerlugger havent been listening to Ozzy's records, just the hits or something because by saying a new record will sound just like all the other ones is just stupid, the first few albums sound similar, but Ozzmozis, Black Rain, No More Tears for exemple dont sound anything like each other.

Ozzy soundin like Vince that is funny. Think about the age difference, think about who has been in rock longer. Vince sounds like he can't even breath! Ozzy is up there and doin the best he can and he still gets the crowd goin. Vince should still be able to kick ass but he can't deliver worth shit anymore. i think this was a one off show......so of course he sounds bad....usually the first show of ant tour is the worst for most bands....sounds like he should of started warming his voice up a few days ahead of time....i dont think he did that....just a little rusty thats all.....

Ozzy May not sound great but his recent sobriety has really given him a boost of energy. He at least speaks clearer. You can understand way more then you could a few years ago when he was on television and the last few ozzfests he did before sobering up were horrible. This at least sounds like decent ozzy that I wouldnt mine sitting in a lawn section to see.

I am disappointed. Gus G appears to be doing a Zakk impression here. My favorite part of 'Bark' is the arpeggiated chords in the chorus, but Gus adds the pinch harmonics just like Zakk. And his physcal mannerisms are the same as well, down to playing a Les Paul. I thought we were getting something different.

Watching this was tough, this guy is all done. That money hungry monster should stop trying to milk this cow, he is fresh out.
The new guitarist was good. Anyone else notice how he sort of half assed introduced the drummer, weird. The kid rocked and Ozzy didn't discover him like he was referring to.
I hate Sharon for taking someone who was once priceless in the Metal community and making me laugh at him, its fucking disgusting. Is money really that important now? Have we all just turned into slaves for cash? Metal is not about money, it never was.

No more tours for Ozzy, just targeted corporate concerts for Sharon's biggest business partners. Sharon might attempt one more tour, but Ozzy's voice won't last a week and it will be cancelled.
I can't believe some of you were surprised at the predictable set list. Even Black Sabbath didn't have time to learn enough new songs to vary their own set list this year. Ozzy, as we all know, needs a teleprompter to croak out the lyrics to Paranoid, so what would happen if he attempted Killer of Giants or Wheels of Confusion? Even with the lyrics scrolling in front of him, there is no way he could sing anything but his limited song selection correctly. He'd come in early, late, mispronounce one of those Geezer or Daisley lines and it would all fail.
At this point, all you can do to express your disapproval is stop buying merchandise from Sharon Incorporated. I expect many of you have already done this. Doubtlessly this downturn in sales partly led to the lawsuit against Iommi, but of course revenge was the primary motivation. Just remember Ozzy as he was in Black Sabbath and at the beginning of his solo career, and treasure those memories. If your Ozzy cds wear out though, check carefully to make sure you aren't buying those rerecorded versions if you need a replacement.

I'm fairly sure that Gus G was "encouraged" to take on some Zakk Wylde characteristics...in the same way that Axl Rose has Bumblefoot play a Les Paul and do Slash style things... I'm sure Ozzy and Sharon are aware that there are Zakk fans out there who couldn't stand the shock of a totally different styled guitarist all of a sudden taking charge... they remember how Joe Holmes came in with his Stoner Rock/Grunge vibe and how he was never really accepted despite being a fabulous player.
I'd say give it time, and Gus will slowly be allowed to come into his own.
Even with the Zakk-isms I thought it was AWESOME!! I'm actually excited about an Ozzy line-up again.

Does anyone else think the keyboards are WAY too loud throughout these songs? Gus is totally drowned out during all the verses. He did a good job with the solos, for sure.
Just listened to Black Rain again the other day. Ozzy's right...it sounds like BLS material. I'm glad he got a new guitar player. Time to shake things up a little, regardless of how good Zakk is.
By the way, how can people post on here and misspell Zakk? It's not Zak, it's not Zach, it's Zakk. Pat attention, people.

Watched the whole thing and really, I firmly believe that the issue isnt just ozzies voice. I believe his hearing is shot as well,which....hand in hand makes it difficult to even tune in to your own pitch.
Last night was no exception, I as well cringed but believe Ozzy just couldnt hear.
Gus imo did a fantastic job being his first time up on stage as the "new" guitarist. This kid is damn good and only going to get better

Im a Zakk Wylde fan, but for some time now ive wished for the day that ozzy gets someone else. zakks sound was making ozzy a bit stagnent. i wanted someone fresh and new.
I would come on here, and be pleasently impressed that some people on here DO actually have brains and thought the same.
Now dont get me wrong, having a new guy is cool BUT...
Why the fuck are you guys happy with this new guy knowing that all he is doing is playing in Zakks fucking style!? Doing the same licks, pinched harmonics etc!??
Problem being is that the best person at doing zakks style is surprise surprise... ZAKK!!
Why the fuck is this guy playing like Zakk, i want this guy to bring hes own style and personality to ozzy. I know its first gig but i would sooner he stay closer to the record instead of an audio of a previous concert with zakk.

Your obviously a very talented guitar player, otherwise ozzy wouldnt pick you. But pleaaaaase dont put pinched harmonics everywhere and zakk style licks. Put your own stamp on the Ozzy of now, so that people know its u when they hear u.

I honestly could care less at this point he should have stopped with the "No More Tours" Tour back in the day. Then he would have gone out of on top but now he will go out a sad shell of his former self.

...Gus did a GREAT job I think. Of course it's to be expected that he wouldn't change the original songs or detour from Zakk's playing style, and it was probably a requirement too. This is not freeform jazz; having another metal guitarist performing a riff based song doesn't give that much room for putting a personal stamp to it. If Gus becomes a permanent member, he'll work his personality more into the songs, though there's a limit to how much you can change. Pinch harmonics? Well, it's how the songs are written after all.
As for the guitar, obviously it's an ESP. Why would he all of a sudden NOT play for the company that's endorsing him? And of course someone in the Ozzy camp or possibly Gus himself saw it fit to go for a Les Paul-ish model since that's what people are used to with Ozzy.

In an interview in Record Review magazine with Ozzy (Jon Sutherland doing the interviewing) not too long after Randy's death, Ozzy mentioned the keyboard player he used on the tour and whom he kept out of site as he was ugly or nerdy or whatever it was. And he calls him by his name, Lindsey Bridgewell. Later I learned this guy played on Budgie's 'Deliver us from evil CD. On another occasion he referred to Gary Moore having an ugly face like a welder's bench. Mean people suck.

The keyboards were louder than the guitar for this show. All these losers that think Zakk sucks and Gus G rules need to get their heads straight. Gus actually played MORE pinch harmonics than Zakk usually does. Granted this is his first live show with Ozzy he did make lots of mistakes.
I actually hope Zakk comes back. Gus G may be a good guitar player but why try and rip off Zakk's playing. And have any of you Gus G fans considered that Zakk may be HIS idol and that is why he is copying his sound?????

Gus sounds fine, and the little kid sounds excellent. Blasko sounds fine, and the same can be said for Clufetos. The keyboards are way, way overkill in the mix...and really don't need to be there at all. And as for Ozzy, it's just over man. If he could put together a band featuring Jimi Hendrix, Cozy Powell and Tony Franklin behind him, this would still sound awful because of Ozzy's voice. It's gone. Listen to "I Don't Want To Change The World". The first couple of times he tries to go up a register he cracks, so then he avoids with some spoken word approach that is horrendous. The "you guys go fucking crazy" every other line he speaks is contrived, as is every single movement he makes on stage. He walks around the stage like a lost old man that can't remember where he left his teeth. Having seen Dio last night and then watching this, it's a no brainer who won the war! Ozzy is done...over...finished! Good night, now!

So much love for Jake E. Lee yet he is on the two weakest "classic" era Ozzy albums "Bark At The Moon" and "Ultimate Sin"... let's face it "Ultimate Sin" is an 80's pop record and doesn't have any more metal than other pop metal bands of the era. I can't even think of any songs on "Bark At The Moon" other than the title track and maybe 1 or 2 more worth much. To be honest I would compare the Jake E. Lee years to that of Judas Priest "Turbo" and "Ram It Down". Same pop rock shit. That said Jake E. Lee is a great guitar player but the songs he played with Ozzy were watered down at best.
It is cool to give him all this credit now but how many of you who are old enough to remember were actually not pissed off when you first heard "Ultimate Sin"?
Gus G. = great guitar player
Is he right for Ozzy? Not sure yet too early to tell. This wasn't as awesome as expected though. We shall see.

Gus really nailed the solos in 'Mr. Crowley'. Sure, any master at his style of guitar playing can nail that solo...but Im not so sure many of them can do that in front of thousands of fans and probably millions watching at home. Especially if its their first gig with someone as big and influential as Ozzy. Kudos to him. And if he is the newest guitar player in Ozzy's band then he will make a great addition. Ive listened to some of his stuff in Firewind and he is pretty good there, too. His style is more Randy than Zakk and that suits me much better. As Im just a bigger fan of that style. Oh and it must have been a dream come true to play songs like 'Mr. Crowley', 'Crazy Train' and 'Suicide Solution' with Ozzy...as i bet he played those songs dozens of times, on the guitar, when he was growing up.

As far as the pinch harmonics are concerned, i dont recall hearing that in Firewind so I am sure Gus is doing that because Ozzy (or Sharon) wants him too. And really I cant blame them for wanting that. At least wanting it right now anyway. There are many Zakk fans who wont like a 'new Ozzy guitarist' having a completely different style than Zakk. And besides...'officially' anyway...Gus isnt even in the band. So it makes sense that Ozzy (or Sharon) would want him to mimic Zakk and not have a completely unique style. A 'hired gun' (officially anyway) coming in and playing his own completely unique spin on Ozzy songs would be kind of odd. But once he is officially in the band (which i think will happen) i bet he will show much less Zakk Wylde characteristics. And much of his playing, in this gig, was much more of Randy's style than Zakk's. Theres more to guitar work than just the pinch harmonics, LOL.

Somewhere after the first two BLS CDS he stopped showering. I bet Ozzy will let him back if he cuts that beard down and steps in the shower at least once every two days! Zakk has started to sound the same lately, like one poster said, I wish he would change his tone and play little more like No More Tears.There were some great guitar parts on that disc

But I think that suits Ozzy at this point anyway. I'm just glad I saw Ozzy with Randy in the old days--including once at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. That was pretty good Ozzy.
But I do think Dio's never been better with Sabbath--better on the last reunion tour than on the Mob Rules tour in the '82, I think.
