CHRIS CORNELL Flies High With VIRGIN AMERICA - Aug. 27, 2009
Throughout his long career, former SOUNDGARDEN/AUDIOSLAVE singer Chris Cornell's incomparable sound and instinct for innovation have conquered new territory and attracted widespread acclaim. On November 1, 2009, he hits another high when Cornell and Virgin America launch a unique partnership between an artist and a commercial airline. This will include in-flight programming, radio contests, performances and more.

Starting in October and running through the holidays, the entire Virgin America airline fleet will feature Chris Cornell on all in-flight programming. His latest LP, "Scream", has been added to the airline's music library and will be a part of a collection that plays during boarding. Beginning in November, passengers will also be able to select various Chris Cornell music videos and albums throughout their flight.

"As a new airline with a state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system including more than 3,000 MP3s and music videos for our guests to choose from, music is in our DNA," said Dimitrios Papadogonas, Director of Marketing at Virgin America. "We are thrilled to partner with a music legend like Chris Cornell and to add such high caliber content to our in-flight entertainment library — the largest one in the domestic skies."

Virgin America is also sponsoring the first-ever Sunset Strip Festival in Los Angeles, California on September 12, where Chris Cornell will give an exclusive performance.

It's way too soon to say he's jumped the shark. Sell-out maybe. He tried something different and it tanked. He's way too good a ROCK/METAL vocalist to abandon that forever.

I don't know if I'd call him a sellout exactly, but having your music played on airplanes isn't very rock n roll...

The only band I EVER want to think of when the topic of airplanes comes up is Maiden.

Cornell is a tired primadonna-ish second-rate Robert Plant wanna-be. Virgin should call the new in-flight programming "Wankervision."

I'd almost rather contend with a terrorist bomber on my next flight then be subjected to this turd's pretentious pablum.

I heard his new record the other day and I thought it was Gnarls Barkley. I think it's better than anything by Soundgarden - cuz it made me laugh pretty good when I realized who it really was. Chris Cornell has always been this goofball, prettyboy crooner who takes himself waaaay too seriously and has no sense of humor. ("I'll go hungrayyeah...") I like him much better now that he's funny. Well, a little, anyway.

You would figure that an Artist/Musician that has had over 20 yrs of success should be able to create something he wants with out being critised. Are we going to start slapping the hands of artists who colour outside the lines?A real artist such as Chris Cornell and not be compartmentalized. I love his heavy stuff and his Scream Cd has grown on me, I mean that lovingly. Hello a sell-out? What does that mean this day and age really? I can't believe the uneducated blogs, really, the music industry makes billions of dollars a year, not by having artists on the street. THe business end and the creative plight have always been a futile fight with musicians. Furthermore if the musician did not make money how the hell would you expect them to tour or make music continually, that is the REAL world. This is not 1959 when money was thrown at musicians and a gamble was taken, for the last 30 year you really have to proove yourself an investment from the perspective of the large labels. THis is a source of contention for artist too. Just be thankful that you can see your favorite performer, who are the capitalists?, well thanx to internet sales the scalpers who charge astronomical money on the head of the performer they couldn't give a shit about, which makes it harder for the real fans to actually see a show.THose are the lowlifes that everyone should hate. I think you should still have to stand in line at the ticket booth to purchase a ticket no internet sales! Not subject to scalper companies! Chris keep doing what you do, a "true" fan.
