DIO Announces U.K. Tour
- Aug. 27, 2009
|
|
DIO, the band fronted by legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio ( HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW), has scheduled the following U.K. dates: Nov. 21 - Glasgow, UK @ 02 Academy Nov. 22 - Sheffield, UK @ 02 Academy Nov. 24 - London, UK @ HMV Forum Nov. 25 - Birmingham, UK @ O2 Academy Nov. 27 - Manchester, UK @ Academy Nov. 28 - Lincoln, UK @ Engine Shed Nov. 29 - Bristol, UK @ Academy Tickets go on sale on August 28 at 9:00 a.m. The dates for the other European countries are expected to be announced shortly. DIO's "Killing The Dragon" album from 2002 was released in June on limited-edition vinyl with a gatefold pop-up cover via Night Of The Vinyl Dead. Only 500 hand-numbered copies were manufactured. "Killing The Dragon" was originally released by Spitfire Records. DIO's "The Very Beast of Dio" was officially certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA) on March 11, 2009 for shipments in the United States in excess of 500,000 copies. Issued in October 2000, "The Very Beast of Dio" is the second greatest-hits collection CD — and the first to be released in the U.S. — from the Ronnie James Dio-fronted band. DIO's last release was the "Holy Diver Live" CD, featuring a performance of the classic "Holy Diver" album in its entirety, from start to finish, recorded live for the very first time in 2005 in front of a sold-out London crowd. It also includes, among others, "Heaven & Hell", "Sign of the Southern Cross" and "Mob Rules" from vocalist Ronnie James Dio's BLACK SABBATH days, "Tarot Woman", "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" from the RAINBOW era and "We Rock" from his solo career. Video footage of DIO's May 30, 2008 performance in Oslo, Norway can be viewed below.

I got to see Heaven and Hell about 2 years ago which was great, but Dio solo is where it's at. Holy Diver was the first metal album I was ever hooked on, and it's still probably my favorite. Would love to hear the tunes live. You UK folks are awful lucky!

Heven and Hell is feeding off the crumbs ozzy left behind for them.
Plain and simple
A dio fronted sabbath will never ever be better or even close to an ozzy fronted sabbath.
And anyone that says otherwise is dilusional and not worth speaking to.

Metel makes several good points. Another Ozzy/Sabbath reunion is not something that should happen. At this point in Osbourne's career unfortunately, I can't imagine he'd have anything valuable to contribute as a songwriter, judging from his output from the nineties onward.
H&H's release on the other hand, steamrolls anything put out by bands half their age. Both live and on CD the H&H Sabbath lineup is just as powerful and exciting as they were in 1980.
Ozzy + Sabbath in this day and age = half-heartedly mucking through old standards for cash
Dio + Sabbath in this day and age = great music from legendary musicians STILL producing spectacular tunes
This isn't at all intended as a slag at Ozzy--its out of my admiration and respect for what the Ozzman once contributed to metal that makes me not want to see another reunion of the first lineup.

Yeah it's sad but true that Ozzy is toast. I saw him last tour and promised myself to never subject myself to that again. I just felt sorry for him. I couldn't even believe how bad he has become. He could barely stand and he never moved around too much on stage EVER. The 98 reunion sounded awesome. Could they ever match or do better than that? I love Ozzy but he hasn't done anything to be excited about for a loooong time. Maybe the Gus G thing can bring something back though eh?

so HnH will be down for a bit. Seeing the final show of the Tour on Saturday.
To be honest the Devil You Know sounded alot like a Dio solo album, the songs just plod along, very uninspired session, they need a decent producer next time around.
Dio is just keeping busy, and to be honest Dio solo shows are are great cause he does Sabs, Rainbow and Solo stuff and maybe Geezer will put out another solo record or tour with Dio if Rudy Sarzo isn't availble.
Ozzy has new band and album coming out, there is no Original Sabbath Reunion thats gonna happen for a LONG TIME if EVER

Funny...for some reason Rainbow never quite "clicked" for me. Don't know why. I even have the Elf self-titled album and love Dio's vox on that classic rock/blues but Rainbow never grabbed me in the way his Sabbath and solo stuff have. Maybe I should give it another listen!

Have to give it to him. Great for the atmospherics, his singing in the early days. But even on my old bootlegs in the late '70s, he couldn't really sing things like Snowblind and Children of the Grave with all the high notes. Never that good on the vocals, but of course the best live frontman in the business--especially with Randy (was lucky to catch those two together sever times in the old days).
Dio I've always liked, from Rainbow Rising days--not good on the Ozzy stuff, really, but on his own things with Sabbath, fully equal with Ozzy, and much more musical range of invention.
Ozzy's never been interesting past Randy days, in my view, but that's just me. Ozzy is at his best with atmospheric playing, which Randy and Iommi were capable, but not even Jake E. Lee really had. Lee was a good songwriter, though--Bark at the Moon is a very catchy album which brings out Ozzy's type of melodies.

How's about some U.S.A. tour dates too? C'mon it's been how many years since the last one? 2004 - 2005 if i remember correctly. Also the best Dio show i've seen was when he toured with Motorhead & Iron Maiden a few yrs back.

sorry bud you are dead wrong!I am 50 years old so I think I am old enough to comment on the versions of sabbath and ozzy unlike somebody who lives in thier patents basement.I and eveybody I know my age and younger prefer the dio version and the martin version for that matter over ozzy sabbath.ozzy solo is way better than ozzy sabbath also.yea we love the hits,I mean who dosen't love paranoid but dio rules over ozzy sabbath!and if you have not you must check out the martin voiced sabbath as they kick major ass!the one common thing they have though is iommi on guitar,he is sabbath in my opinon as the sound he produces is sabbath no matter who the singer.

Heaven and Hell has been touring almost non-stop since the Metal Masters tour with Priest last year, and he's already lining up solo dates. Just looking at him and hearing him you wouldnt think the guy was 67yrs old and kicking ass over guys half his age. The guy is simply phenomenal.
As for H&H being over, not a chance. The success of their past 2 tours and in how well the new album came out, even if its not as stellar as it could be, it more then enough to show Tony that he doesnt need Ozzy. Ozzy cant sing to save his life, he got rid of his only saving grace in Zakk Wylde for a unknown kid from Europe, and Sharon has been trying to sue him for half of the Sabbath trademark. Yeah, like a tour with Ozzy is ever going to happen again. I wouldnt even go see Ozzy live now even on a free ticket, which is probably what they'll have to do again like Ozzfest.
And really, I couldnt even stand original Sabbath till Dio joined the band and put out Heaven and Hell. Those 2 albums with Dio surpassed anything Ozzy did IMO.

In case yall didn't see the video posted along with this article, Dio did a tour last year while H&H was taking a break and look, they formed up again, put out an album and did a tour. Plus, Iommi is having hand surgery right after this tour so Dio is simply keeping himself busy.
This in no way shape or form indicates that H&H is over. Keep your ignorant comments out of here. Ozzy Sabbath is the thing that's done for, not H&H.
Also, about Iommi saying that they're going to play some Ozzy stuff next year, I think yall might have just misunderstood what he said.
If you remember correctly, earlier this year in an interview, Iommi stated that next year, they might play the whole entire Heaven and Hell album live, which has never been done before, so in this new interview, the old stuff he's talking about, could possibly be reverting back to his previous interview about playing the whole H&H album.
I highly doubt H&H will be playing any Ozzy stuff. That would partly defeat the whole purpose of them changing the name in the first place and I do not think Dio would even agree to it in the first place.
Until there is an official announcement made by the band or Joe Siegler from the Black Sabbath endorsed forum, then H&H is not over.

Ozzy is awful now and I pray we'll never see another Ozzy Sabbath album. Dio still sounds awesome and puts on a way better show. I've seen both the Dio fronted version and Ozzy in the past ten years and Dio blows Ozzy out of the water. I would love to see them drop the facade and call Heaven and Hell properly Black Sabbath and contiune to make real music. Ozzy's past two studio albums were shit written by pop writers and his producer and the next Ozzy album will be no different. I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzy wanting to bring in outside writers is why the Black Sabbath album of 2001 fell apart. Long live Tony, Geezer, Vinny, and Dio! Fuck Ozzy!

you no most of you clowns that diss ozzy now were all hanging from his nuts when he left sabbath and released his 1st 2 solo albums, (which by the way are classics and 10 times better than anything dio has ever released) the new sabbath album is really horrible. anyone who is still listening to it now is either dillusional or just bought it...just cause ozzy is old and messed up now does that mean you all have to hate him!! he is a LEGEND and 4ever changed the heavy metal music genre!! Dio hasnt released anything worth a shit since sacred heart!! every album since that album sounds the same and is boring from front to back!! period!!!

The way I always understood it was that Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Heaven and Hell, and Dio are all "separate bands" that are still "going". A Dio tour was inevitable and expected.... and hopefully we'll get Magica 2 or some other new Dio album out of it as well before Heaven and Hell are back at it again.
