MEGADETH: Audio Samples Of Entire New Album Available
- Aug. 29, 2009
|
|
30-second audio samples of all the tracks that will appear on MEGADETH's new album, "Endgame", are available for streaming on Amazon.de (scroll down). They can also be streamed in the YouTube clip below. Due on September 15 via Roadrunner Records, "Endgame" was recorded at the band's brand new, self-built studio in San Marcos, California — Vic's Garage — which was named after the legendary and iconic Vic Rattlehead character. "Endgame" track listing: 01. Dialectic Chaos02. This Day We Fight!03. 44 Minutes04. 1,320'05. Bite The Hand That Feeds06. Bodies Left Behind07. Endgame08. The Hardest Part Of Letting Go... Sealed With A Kiss09. Headcrusher10. How the Story Ends11. The Right To Go Insane"Endgame" was helmed by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine and acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap ( EXODUS, NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY, MACHINE HEAD). Sneap also manned the boards for 2007's "United Abominations". According to a press release, "Endgame" "boasts the technicality, ferocity and snarl that's synonymous with MEGADETH and Mustaine. It's a violent masterwork that represents Mustaine's best work in nearly two decades. In a musical world dominated by bands that make generic, blanket statements, 'Endgame' finds Mustaine, once again, making informed and substantial lyrical declarations about the state of the world we live in." Commented Mustaine: "Thematically, I've never been known to be a silent bystander in a world that needs our participation. As more is revealed about our former President's legacy, a little-known yet staggeringly frightening document which was signed into law, named 'Endgame', has been uncovered. The album 'Endgame' is the most energetic music offering I have penned in over a decade and is far more believable than knowing someone signed 'Endgame' — the document — into law. The album is also the perfect 'ass-kicking' music to listen to once you are done reading the aforementioned document!" He added, "This new album is my proudest moment since the famous (or infamous) 'Rust in Peace' album. With this album, I am also very excited to be introducing my new lead guitarist, Chris Broderick, to the world. I have always felt lucky to have had top shredders in that position, but after touring with Chris in support of my last album, I couldn't wait to get into the studio and see what he could do." MEGADETH filmed a video for the song "Headcrusher" on July 28 in the Los Angeles area. Mustaine previously described the clip — which will feature mixed martial arts — as " 'Gladiator'-meets- UFC-meets-inside-of- Dave-Mustaine's-brain." U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine and The Quietus have both posted track-by-track reviews of "Endgame". Check them out by following the links below: * Metal Hammer* The Quietus

...the majority of this sounds utter gash. Headcrusher is definitely a grower - same with 1,320. But these samples sound horrible. The leaked songs 44 minutes and Endgame were rubbish.
Obviously this opinion is worthless until the whole album leaks, but on par with Rust In Peace, or even Death Magnetic? I seriously think not.

I know that they are 30 second samples, but it sounded boring and repetitive, Dave has lied again it would seem, although the solos were good. With any luck the new Slayer album will actually be the best since seasons.
And the comment about metal hammer couldn't be more spot on. Dom Lawson who writes for them sometimes is the biggest idiot of them all. Seriously, his articles just consist of him trying to be funny and just trying to be an internet tough guy by writing "angry" articles.

feeling nervous??? why the hell would they be nervous. Do you actually think this album will make Megadeth better then Metallica....not bloody likely. The only thing Megadeth is, is Dave Mustaine trying as hard as he possibly can to be better then Metallica. Granted Mustaine's music is more complex then metallica but does that make the 'music better'. Not a chance. Until Mustaine can finally put on a decent concert they will never EVER reach the status that Metallica has. End of story.

I like the direction Dave is going & will be a first day buyer. At least Dave still a little puts effort into his albums unlike James & Lars............
On a side note, it "sounds" fabulous compared to Death Megnetic.
One more thing. Dave, if you read this, BRING BACK VIC!!!! Vic Rattlehead goes hand in hand with Megadeth just like Eddie does with Iron Maiden!!!

I like how people use record sales in the MD vs MT argument. Selling more records DOES NOT MAKE ONE BAND BETTER!!! If that were the case than Brittney Spears would be better than every metal band out there (except metallica lol). Seriously though, I love both bands and I am going to see Metallica kick some ass in September but I honestly feel that Megadeth has put out better albums in the last 20 years.

some of you can gather how good an album is from 30 second samples of the chorus from songs. If I heard 30 seconds from the beginning of 'One' or 'The Conjuring', I would think they were boring as well. Can't judge these yet. Apparently, these songs have a lot of twists and turns, from mid-tempo to thrash, etc. One thing is for certain, it sounds like Dave has a better grasp of what thrash actually is, and the production is about 39383058303892x better than DM's production.

I think it will be a great album. Not in the league of R.I.P. but that is a tough one to beat. I think I will listen to this more than the Death Magnetic album. Hetfield's vocal style is starting to annoy me a bit along with Kirk's sloppy playing.
Mr Mustaine again sounds like a snarling beast with all the bitterness he has inside coming out in his music.

Megadeth's album sounds METAL and Metallica's sound like a lazy version of their Justice for all album.
If Metallica sells more is because any asshole that doesnt even like Metal tends to like Metallica. Just ask your sisiters they can listen to the Jonas Brothers and they are also Metallica fans. Popularity means shit in music. you know that. or do you like f.ing lady gaga just because she sells alot of albums.

Given..all the tracks are indeed "heavy" and based on the bias/unbiased reviews, it sounds like it would sit there where RIP left off. And Rust in Peace all had great tracks...."headcrusher" & "1,320" are OK to say the least. So keep on listening to RIP for your "true" thrash Megadeth style. It sounds to me that ENDGAME will sit between RIP and Countdown, where Endgame turned out to be a good "follow up" to RIP. at least, that's what it sounds like to me and I'm 99% sure that will be the case when its out. Just like Metallica won't make another MOP, then Mustaine can't make another RIP.

Megadeth is a shadow of their former self. And while Metallica may be the same way, at least they realize it and just try to have fun nowadays.
Dave is so busy trying to prove to everyone how much "better" Megadeth is that he forgot what music was really about. And before you all climb all over my nuts bashing me, let me clarify that I am a big 'Deth fan too.

bitch about 30 seconds sample about a band who always been better than that shitty Metallica.
With Megadeth, you can't judge with short samples like this since the song always progress, form midtempo to thrash in a matter of seconds. But with Metallica, you know right away that the songs won't have anything to offer because it's always the same simple shit. My little sister love Metallica. That's says a lot, and she listen to Mika and Coldplay too.
In every normal joe discography, you will have a Metallica album next to some Linkin Park and some Jonas Brother.
Deal with it Metallica fanboys. Metallica = more popular Megadeth = real metal.

I'm still waiting for the day it comes out. In these days of instant gratification I'm going t wait until the full release and give it a proper listen. I checked out "Headcrusher" and it was pretty good. United Abominations was the first proper Megadeth album since Risk (say what you will about it.... at least it sounded like he liked what he was playing). I'm pretty optimistic about this one, and Chris Broderick is one hell of a lead player.
Oh yeah... Metallica will always be better. Sorry Dave. Don't be too upset, Megadeth are metal legends as well. The rivalry thing is pretty b.s...... enjoy your metal!

Then why do you hate Metallica? Their music kicks ass, but you seem to hate it because it's popular. Besides, you're the same person who made the "every average joe has a metallica record next to his Linkin Park and Jonas Brothers ones" comment. Hypocrite.
Like I said before, Metallica isn't as good as they used to be, but they know that. And they are HAVING FUN. Dave has a stick so far up his ass that he doesn't know the meaning of fun. Ok Dave, we all know you are "better" than Metallica, now shut the hell up.
You kiss this man's ass and act like he is a god. He's the same man who gossips like a soccer mom in every interview and bitches about Metallica after repeatedly saying that "the feud was over and he was burying the hatchet". Metallica put it all behind them and respect Dave, so why can't the twat do the same to them?

Well done.
Metallica is just shyte someone stepped in back in the 80's but you can still smell it. Did anyone actually listen to their last album? I thought Metal-heads gave up and let the pop world have them?
Metallica climbs those charts....but so does rap, and hip hop. zzzzzz.

shit this is very dissapointing:((( I thought mustaine said that this album would bring megadeth back from what they made in the 80's, mustaine lied lol This album sounds like any other album that every metal band from today would try to make. Good talented guitar/bass/drum playing with no good structure and songwriting. metallica on the other hand, they dont have the most talented drumming/guitar/bass but do have the better structure and songwriting than megadeth. Conclusion is that Metallica is better than megadeth soley because they are better songwriters. Its not about how good you play music, its about how well you structure it and I hate it when people say that megadeth are better than metallica because of how good they are on an instrument lol people like that dont know shit about music. Metallica owns Megadeth and thats final

People talk about how sick they are of the Metallica/Megadeth bullshit when Mustaine talks about it, then they procede to bring it up themselves every chance they get. God I'm so over it. Who gives a flying fuck which band you prefer and why. Get over yourselves. And if someone does bring up which they prefer why do the fans of the other band have to be so insecure about it? Grow a set of balls, girls.
That said, I'm actually diggin' a lot of the clips. I checked out a radio rip of 44 minutes and it reminds me a lot of the tunes from Youthanasia, which I happen to like. And the guitar tones I'm hearing on this record are stellar!
I hated United Abominations but I seem to be clicking with this new material. I'm actually kinda psyched to hear the entire album. First time in years I've felt that way about Megadeth, too.

"Endgame" is Megadeth's BEST record in many many years. This has Dave in top form as his vocals (in his style) are flawless. He has more control over his vocals than James does now. I have to thank Dave for not giving up and making sure to deliver that Megadeth thrasher we have been waiting for all these years. Chris Broderick is a fucking MONSTER! His solos on "This Time We Fight" are ferocious! Not only does this album top Death Magnetic (no loudness war here) but, it also tops previous Megadeth offerings UA. and TSHF. easily. The energy that was lacking on UA. can be found on "Endgame."
I am a first day buyer and I hope many other metalheads stand up and take notice to buy this fine piece of work as you did for Death Magnetic. Dave deserves all the accolades this album should bring in and he continually sets that bar higher for himself.
If you cant tell from the samples, get your ears checked. From the 5 songs leaked or released and the ones from the samples I cannot wait to own this.

Death magnetic was a good METALLICA album. This is a MEGADETH album.
clips are too short for me to really know what it's gonna be like. Fingers crossed though, another good metal album out there is a good thing no matter who it's by.

It sounds okay, but nothing sticks out. I haven't heard a single memorable hook so far - and Dave sure has potential for making great songs with great choruses. I just listened thru my Megadeth-collection yesterday, and he has an amazing collection of great songs - "Angry again" for one, "Die dead enough" and every single track from "Youthanasia". Awesome song!
I like my Megadeth best at mid tempo! :-)

I also think Death Magnetic was easily Metallica's 5th best album and I will listen to at least five of those songs for the next 20 years.

I'm 35 years old, and I have been a fan of both bands since '85 '86 something, and don't really get why should have to pick Metallica and Megadeth - instead of both. To me they sound nothing alike - Metallica has a riffing style based on power chords, where Mustaine mostly has based his riffs on single note riffs. Metallica, to me, has always been a bit more bottom heavy, where Megadeth has been more technical - and the complement each other perfectly!
And I don't get this "Mustaine made Metallica sound the way the does". No he didn't, they sounded the way they did before he joined the band - and - if the above claim would be true then "Killing is my buisness..." would have sounded like "Kill 'em all" right? But it doesn't! Not even close!
And thats not a bad thing in any way or form! The the bands has a unique sound - and I like them both equally much!
So, to end this rant, I will buy the new Megadeth record as soon as it gets avaible - and place it alongside "Death magnetic" in my CD-collection.
Rock on!

How can anyone make a call on 30 sec samples of songs, and say it is the worst thing ever, or even the best. It gives you a sample of what may be 6 minute songs. There could be 5 1/2 more minutes to hear per song and people are bashing this album???
Do you not have a brain? Is being negative your thing? Why not get out of the front of needing the quick fix and find music for its real purpose. Music doesnt always offer itself an immediate liking. Many and most of the good bands put stuff out and if it truly is lasting, it means it had to grow on you and reveal itself with a few spins or more to finally "GET" what that artist was trying to offer on that album. Dont be so quick to judge, dont need music to instantly gratify you, unless that is what you consider metal, if so go back to your Trivium, or any other band like them that all sound the exact same!

easy answer: because half of the songs already leaked. Judging from those 4-5 tracks, it will be a strong album, tunes like 44 minutes and endgame are growing every time you listen to them. Headcrusher probably is the worst one that is accessible now.

Le_Voleur- "ha ha ha are you kidding me? dave's sounds like shit, he can't sing to save his life"
No, I am not kidding you, Dave sounds just as good as he ever has and he's done that for over 20+ years. He doesn't try to be something he's not, which is a 'singer' and thats where James went wrong. I have always preferred Dave's vocals, his voice is just so unique. He doesn't need to sing, but he tries to throw in some harmonies and pulls it off nicely every time. Some people just like his raspy voice, just like others like Axl's or John Bush's, I could go on and on, but the point is that its the ability to sound like no one else that makes the band stick out and thats exactly what Dave has always done.

In my opinion the clips sounded very much the same. First part of the album sounds much better than the last half from the 30 second clips. Too early to say how the album will actually turn out, even though I have heard 4 full songs. Some very very good riffs and solos, but a lot of generic stuff as well. Sounds like a lot like every other band these days.
People who argue about Megadeth being better SONGWRITERS than Metallica can shove their heads up in their ass, because it's a whole different league. But on the intruments on the other hand.. No comparison :)

Well said.
People who can judge fast are Metallica fans because that band is simple and repetitive. So you like them at first listen but get bored real quick if you have a brain more mature than a 3 years old.
Megadeth are more complex, you just can't judge at first listen because you can be sure you missed a lot of things that going on. When you dig in Megadeth, you find something worthy under the surface. With Metallica, you dig and you find nothing else that you already heard.
That's why Metallica and Jonas Brother are side by side in any teenage girls cd collection.

I just heard the full version of this song and the audio production is very good. Not sure about the song writing yet. If I had to say anything bad about it I'd say that the kick drum could be a little better and the solos are full-on shred and not very memorable unfortunately. One other thing, I find it really annoying listening to mustaines nasly dialog voice. i.e. during the begining of 44 minutes.

I`m guessing a lot of people made up their mind to hate this a long time back.
I too like both Metallica and Megadeth. I think Metallica in their prime were better but I think Megadeth have been consistently better over their career. But either way, it doesn`t matter....this is a Megadeth album and doesn`t need to be compared to Metallica. And fucktards who think Megadeth don`t sell...they`re still the second biggest selling band behind Metallica that came from the 80`s thrash scene...some 25 million album sales is pretty damn respectable in metal circles.

You can't compare Death Magnetic to this.
Death Magnetic sounds like diarrhea juice compared to the new Megadeth. James Hetfield sings like a braying honky-tonk horse and the drumming is some of the laziest ever. Weak ass cheesy "introspective" lyrics, yodeling...it makes me cringe. The production sucks balls and you all know it.
Megadeth, however, sounds fresh. Lots of energy, stunning guitar work, pissed-off vocals...Endgame is going to kick some ass. Sales don't mean shit. You'll never catch Dave holding shopping bags down on Rodeo Drive.

Better at what? They were only better at creating easy songs to grasp for the masses. Besides this, Megadeth crushes them in every way imaginable.
The best Metallica did was And justice for all. That's the only time that they proved to be able to show some evolution and some complexity. Lars was great on it, so great that i have some difficulties to believe that he did that amazing, almost melodic drumming (if you know what i mean by melodic drumming, who seems an antithesis).
Rumors says that his parts were recorded, copy and paste to make him look better but i'm not sure how you can believe those rumors.
Still, he never showed this kind of abilities before or since.

I have also speculated that Metallica did not write that And Justice for All, nor did Lars record the drum parts. Now I am reading this theory more and more, so I know I'm not the only one who thinks this.
It is just too radical of a leap for them to go from AJFA to a turd nugget like Load for me to believe it.
I have heard Lars say in interviews that they didn't want to be stereotyped as a "political" band lyrically, and that they just wanted to rock out like their heroes AC/DC and Thin Lizzy, so they changed their style for the Black Album and beyond...but man, did they ever dumb themselves down to the extreme in the 90's!!! Blechh! Lazy asses!

he's a rock solid rythmn guitarist and you can still hear it on Death magnetic. His precision is amazing but as far as complexity, Mustaine is a lot better. Mustaine's riff would make Hetfield's head spin if he tried to play them and sing at the same time.
So at rythmn, they're both great but different in their delivery.
For guitar solos, Megadeth always have been more complex than Metallica. Having two lead player in Megadeth is also a advantage since Mustaine has a unique style. No matter whoS, the other guitar player, you know who plays what. And the thing is... with Megadeth, you always have another amazing guitarist. Poland, Young, Friedman, Pitrelli, Drover and Broderick are all great, some less than other to recreate some previous Megadeth guitar's part but always great on their own album.
When i see people bitch about Glen Drover, i can understand that live, maybe he wasn't that good to recreate Marty's parts but on UA, when he plays his own stuff, he's amazing.
As for Kirk, he was good, very good, but he's lazy. He's not that good anymore and he's not a great writer anymore.
As for songwriting... Metallica write cool songs but they are easy for the most part. The only exception is AJFA, who is pale when you compare it to RIP. Megadeth's songs are deeper, more technical, maybe less memorable at first listen but for the long run, they have more to offer. So Megadeth wins for this too.
Singing... James have a great heavy metal voice, maybe not anymore but in the 80 he was great. His voice is more mainstream than Dave's. Dave's voice is unique, no one sings like him. Some people hates it, some people loves it. I think Dave's voice has more emotions, more agressivity. James voice suits the more mainstream approach that Metallica have.
So Metallica is better at what musically? Nothing.

Megadeths music is more complicated. Metallicas is more easy and blunt. Metallica is more mainstream but only cause there music isnt complicated and isnt metal anymore. They could make a killer Metal album if they wanted to, but they've proven for years they dont want to. I guess its "SAD BUT TRUE". Since the Black album Metallica has been a good HEAVY ROCK band. Theres lots of other bands that are kick ass metal bands, but they dont get recogonized, cause there not mainstream. Megadeth is just one of the true METAL bands out there. No bullshit 3 memory remains, Metallica dosent do what they love anymore they do what will make them more money and more successfull. I feel sorry for brainwashed Metallica fans. Try listening to other music, and maybe when you pull your heads out of lars vagina, you can actually hear that there are better bands then metallica.

overall not too bad...and yes, it's not possible to judge the album with 3o sec samples. One thing I'd want to mention again though, is that the drums are the weakest link in the band and that there's just no creativity behind the playing. So RIP 2 is simply not possible just for that reason.

When I said Metallica in their prime were better I wasn`t referring to technical ability, just songs. For me, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are better than any Megadeth album. It`s a close call, I love the first 4 albums of both bands ( I love a good deal more of Megadeth 5th album onwards than I do Metallica though ). Nowadays I get considerably more excited at the prospect of new Megadeth than I do new Metallica...although DM was a big step back in the right direction.

"So Metallica is better at what musically? Nothing."
Jesus, you just now figured that out? Megadeth has ALWAYS been more technical and they've ALWAYS been better players than Metallica.
But Metallica has always been better at songwriting. Besides, you can be the best player in the world, but if you don't know how to write memorable songs, you might as well put your instrument down for good. Look at Dream Theater: all of the members are very talented, but listening to any of their songs puts me to sleep. Nothing but pure 14-minute guitar wankery.
Also, I love Rust In Peace, but some of the songs on that album have extremely long intros. Half the time, I skip the intro to "Poison Was The Cure" because A) It's pointless and adds nothing to the song, and B) It's way too long. At least when Metallica made 8-9 minute songs, they didn't spend too long dwelling on a certain riff or section, and the songs flowed well.

Was Metallica a true metal band whenever Risk came out? Where they a true metal band when Youthanasia came out? No, they wrote radio-friendly songs too, so I guess you could call them "hard rock".
And nowadays, they are going through the motions. You may think that their new metal material is "fresh and exciting", but to me it sounds recycled and boring.

but since there seem to be very few mature or objective ones (ie MDeth vs. Metallica) on here I'll add mine.
Sure I can't judge the entire album from 30 sec clips but I definitely like what I heard a lot! Sounds like this stuff is pretty damn heavy and catchy with ripping solos flying everywhere. That's how I like my metal anyway so for all of the people complaining already not sure what you expect??? RIP II will never happen but Megadeth is steadily moving in a heavier, thrashier direction. That makes me happy not mad... I can tell this will be a big imrovement over UA and TSHF!
I also like the new Metallica a lot! I really hated the loads and st. anger but DM is a great album! Again it's not MOP and they never will touch it either. But at least Metallica is metal again and can make a great album!
Bottom Line: Great to have both bands back to playing metal again!

I am a big 'Deth fan too, but it pisses me off to see people bash Metallica. So I put them back in their place by reminding them that METALLICA IS JUST AS GOOD and FREAKIN' ROCKS

All in all, sounded pretty weak. I didn't like the production and the vocals were all really low and anemic.
