OZZY OSBOURNE's Daughter Says It Was Great For Her Father To Test Out New Band At BLIZZCON

ITN conducted a short interview with Ozzy Osbourne's daughter Kelly on August 22 at BlizzCon 2009 where her father performed as part of the event's closing ceremonies. Watch the chat below. Regarding Ozzy's performance at BlizzCon, Kelly said, "He's so brilliant. And if you saw the little boy that played with him [referring to nine-year-old guitar prodigy Yuto Miyazawa]; he's just fantastic. It's great because it's the first time that this band has all played together — because there's a couple of new members. It's great to kind of — especially for my dad — to test it out on an audience like this that is so willing to have fun. it's great. . . It's fantastic. Sometimes it even shocks me that he still does what he does, but I guess when you're willing to do something, you're willing to do it." OZZY OSBOURNE played a 10-song set at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California as part of the closing ceremonies at BlizzCon. His backing band for the concert consisted of guitarist Gus G. ( FIREWIND), drummer Tommy Clufetos ( ROB ZOMBIE, ALICE COOPER, TED NUGENT), bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson ( ROB ZOMBIE) and keyboardist Adam Wakeman. Miyazawa joined Ozzy and the rest of his group on stage to perform the Osbourne classic "Crazy Train". Check out video footage of the performance below. Ozzy issued a statement on August 21 confirming reports that longtime Osbourne musicians Zakk Wylde (guitar) and Mike Bordin (drums) would not be joining him for the BlizzCon performance due to their current touring commitments with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and FAITH NO MORE, respectively. In addition to his current axe-slinging duties with FIREWIND, Gus (real name: Kostas Karamitroudis) has played in MYSTIC PROPHECY, NIGHTRAGE, ARCH ENEMY and DREAM EVIL. The largest event of its kind, BlizzCon is a celebration of Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft game universes and the global player communities surrounding them.

The aditional keyboards sound fantastic. It takes me back to the 'Bark At The Moon' days. Overall, a good sound and performance. I had lost any hope for Ozzy resurrecting his career. Perhaps this is the dawning of a new age for Ozzy.
We'll see.

Ok, guys come on. Everybody here rags on Zakk for pinch harmonics. This new guy hit more of them then Zakk Does. Yeah, I love Zakks music. Ok, the recent albums are stale as hell but Sonic Brew was amazing. And Pride & Glory is one of my favorite albums of all time.
But if you are going to rag on him for PH's, lets be fair. This guy went even nuttier with them.

I thinks this band sounded like shit. The guitar player is a Zakk-wanna-be & I've heard more animated drumming out of a drum machine. The keybaords are clearly there to try & hide this band's shortcomings.
I know this will piss many of you off, but I've been a fan of Ozzy for the last 25+ years, so I'm entitled to my opinion.
Ozzy is fast becoming a nostalgia act.

Oz fans are blinded by the fact that this is Ozzy.
Pretend it's not actually him - What would you think of this band, this singer, this performance? You'd say the band was bland and robotic, that the singer can't hold a tune and sounds like a homeless oaf, and that overall you wasted your time watching it. But since it's really him, you think it's "excellent" etc.
It's horrible. Take a step back and see the forest for the trees.

Didn't realize that ole' Rick's son has been playing for Sabbath and Ozzy...probably old news, but nice.
I know Metal fans don't like keyboards and all...but, I was recently watching some old 80's live Ozzy footage and they were practically always there up in the mix since the Jake E. Lee days.

And nothing is said about Kelly doing

Disappointed in Gus...I expected a bit more...I coulda done that...I'll have to wait for the first studio work to come out to truly judge him...
I thought the keyboards sounded a bit weak...but no big deal...
Maybe they didn't prepare too much for it, it IS a video game convention after all...
...I miss Zakk in the band...I'm sceptical of this Gus dude...
...as for Kelly...She looks better than before to me...I'd do her from the front and blog about it!

Ozzy was the worst part of that live performance. He lost his breath easy, and could really hold any notes. As for Gus, he is actually proven to be a pretty good guitar player in the past, and to be honest I found his performance exceptable. The keyboard which is the son of Rick Wakeman, proved to be top notch. probably the best part of the performance. Seriously to those that have problems with keyboards two words...... Dark Tranquility.

I had the oppertunity to see ozzy for the first time in 1988 on the "No rest for the ...."tour.
Most of the people have it spot on........
Ozzy should have retired long ago.
In "88" The show was incredable, a young Zack Wylde and Ozzy still young enough to really pour it on in a performance.
The vibe was the best,The guy made you feel energized!!!!
His voice is shot,the keyboards are way to loud.
If you never got to see him 20 or so years ago(or before that) YOU MISSED OUT and if you did you know.........
I saw him at one of the first OZZFEST'S and told a friend that he would be in for a treat,boy was I wrong......
Also had the chance to meet Zack at one of my local M/C's clubhouse after a show in Chicago.
The nicest down to earth guy you want to meet.Drank shots of Crown with him and talked about our kids.
A class act with no attitude I wish him well!!!

That's my review.
Gus is retarded for trying to out Zak Zak in the squeal department when he's capable of so much more...most likely he was told what to play and how to play it and was simply being a mindless automation, exactly how Ozzy and Sharon prefer the band. Hopefully he wises up and sticks with Firewind, because they're FAR more interesting that Fraudzzy Osbourne at this point.
Keyboards were FAR too loud.
Drummer was meh. Nothing special, anybody could play that shit.
And Fraudzzy sounded, of course, like shit. Washed up tired hack that he is.
What he REALLY needs is to finally strangle Sharon properly, get Jake E. Lee back on guitar and pay Bob Daisley any god damn amount of money he wants to write him another album. Bob Daisley, out of ALL 20 ODD PEOPLE who've been on the "Ozzy Osbourne Hit Songwriting Team(c)" over the years, can make the best solo Ozzy music, that much is for sure.

I missed the classy playing on that song. Randy Rhoads had that class, Gus G. has it. Zakk pitch squealed every two notes and his playing was pretty dirty, I'm sorry but that's the truth.

I agree with you on almost everything, but that song has squeals because that's the way Randy recorded it, it's not a Zakk thing, I think Gus respected the original and did exactly the opposite of what you said. He did the squeals only when it was necessary.

The new band would be interesting to hear on a new Ozzy album but, hopefully, it wouldn't be just another novelty Ozzy album that I'll put on the shelf after a mere 20 listens. I'm really hoping the next album is going to be more than just passable.
I must say that the excitement of the new band and upcoming album is substantially diminished because of Ozzy suing Iommi in this ridiculous lawsuit. It just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. After 30 years of fandom, I never thought I could dislike Ozzy, even through all the ill-advised ventures he's done which were truly humiliating to his hardcore fan base. Now, this thing about trying to steal the Sabbath name from Iommi reaches a level of sickening which is hard for me to ignore.
I still wish and believe, as I have for the last 10 years, that Ozzy would be better off with new management. Sadly, we know this will not happen.

Please--why would you imitate the guitar mannerisms of Zakk Wylde instead of innovating on Randy Rhoads'? I mean there is all kinds of opportunities for trills, thirds, string sliding, fretboard tapping, etc.
Unless this new guy was told to play that way, I can't see any reason why you wouldn't just go to town--just as Rhoads did.
Hell, even Brad Gillis had his own vibrato tricks that he played his own way.
