HEAVEN & HELL Fans In Atlantic City Interviewed - Aug. 31, 2009
Damian of the unofficial BLACK SABBATH web site Black-Sabbath.com interviewed several fans at the final date of HEAVEN & HELL's North American tour on August 29 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The fans spoke about the band, how far they've come to see the show, how many times they've seen the group, etc. Watch the three-minute clip below.

The management for HEAVEN & HELL vocalist Ronnie James Dio released a statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET on August 27 in an attempt to "quash any rumors that [the group] have broken up." The statement read in part, "[HEAVEN & HELL guitarist] Tony Iommi has to have surgery on his hand and [needs] some down time for recovery. Therefore DIO [the band] will be performing some dates in the U.K. and Europe in November/December during this time off. HEAVEN & HELL are already making plans for dates next year."

In a recent interview with The Aquarian Weekly, Iommi stated about his upcoming surgery, "I've got to have an operation on my hand, and that's sort of a major thing I need to get done and I've been putting it off now. So we're going to have some time off while I get that done. That'll be a bit of a break, I think. Not for everybody, but it'll be some time off from touring for me for sure."

When asked what happened to his hand, Iommi replied, "The cartilage is gone from the thumb in my fingering hand. It's been like that now, to be honest, for a year and I've been taking anti-inflammatories and all sorts of stuff to try and calm it down, but it's inevitable I've got to have the operation because the bone is rubbing on the bone. Funny enough, I talked to Eddie Van Halen this morning, because he's had the same sort of problem, so I'm seeing him to have a chat about what happened to him. He thinks it's very successful, so we'll see."

Riot Act won't say where he saw 'em. I saw the gigs in Wallingford, and Boston. Had front row, for Boston, directly in front of Geezer. The Wallingford gig,was much better though, due mostly to the morale of the band. ( that, and 6th row, center didn't hurt). In Boston, there was some fucker that was really annoying Ronnie,at the front of the stage. Anyway, a few of us lucky fans got to hang with Ronnie, after the Wallingford gig. The rest of the band split, but Ron hung out with us for about a half an hour, signing stuff and taking pictures. Quite a nice guy, and very generous with his time. The man is a true class act in the music biz. The band was really tight, both nights, and Ron was in fine voice both nights, with the exception of the opening song. (Warming up,maybe?) With any luck, we'll all get to see these guys again very soon, and with a slightly longer set list(IMHO). Cheers!

At the Boston concert, I was front row right in front of Geezer too. You must have been right next to me. Was a great concert. My first time ever seeing Dio or Sabbath. I'm usually anxious in crowds, but was so excited to be there I forgot all about the huge crowd (until I turned around). :-)

Was the annoying guy the one who kept bobbing his head?

You hate Dio. We get it. Must you be a troll on every Dio related news item? Move on with your life.

The band was INCREDIBLE in Atlantic City! But I've never seen a crowd as lame as this.

At the venue, you either have general admission tickets and stand, or you get reserved seating for a second floor balcony. Like at any metal show I've ever been too, the crowd in the balcony stands when the headliner comes out. (This wasn't my first show here--it's a cool place.) But at this show, I stood up as H&H came out, and a bunch of people behind me flipped out. They kept yelling at me to sit down, and even asked an employee to make me sit. Of course, the employee told them he can't do that. The crazy thing was, just about everyone in the balcony was sitting.

Eventually I got sick of these 60 year olds harrassing me so my wife and I went down to the general admission area, where everyone was really into the show. But I still can't believe this. If you can't stand up at a metal show, stay the fuck home!

H&H's 2009 album may well be one of the top 5 metal album of the year! I listen to the album again this week and goddamn IOMMI knows how to lay metal riffing and cool solos! Killer album!

The tour was decent but they definitely need to change the setlist and play more new songs. I agree with wanting to see Breaking into Heaven amongst others.

That person in Concord must have felt like an idiot when they were the only one sitting. song in question...

Dio is a class act and great to his fans. The Devil You Know is one of the top five metal albums of 2009.

The Priest, H&H, and Mayhem Fest shows made my summer.
