MICHAEL ANGELO BATIO Interviewed At DEAN OWNERS OF AMERICA Event; Video Available - Sep. 6, 2009
Vicky Bradley (a.k.a. Vix the Angel Of Metal) conducted an interview with guitarist Michael Angelo Batio (NITRO) on August 8, 2009 at the Dean Owners of America U.K. faction party at the Albany Theatre in London, England. Watch the seven-minute chat below.

Batio recently collaborated with Metal Method founder Doug Marks to release the "Speed Lives 3 - The Neo Classical Zone" DVD. Marks directed and produced the DVD, which features Michael teaching and performing his song "The Finish Line". Michael breaks down this fun to learn and challenging song into 29 sections.

"The Finish Line" features many different kinds of guitar techniques including several different kinds of arpeggios, long alternate picking sequences and the use of many different keys and scales including the whole tone scale. The great thing about learning to play "The Finish Line" is that you will not only be learning techniques that you can use with any style of music but you also be able to play one of Michael's most popular songs.

"Speed Lives 3 - The Neo Classical Zone" is a three-camera video shoot and the production in every area is outstanding. The disc also includes right-hand picking close-ups on screen (picture in picture) along with the fret board hand.

All exercises, explanations and examples are marked with dozens of detailed chapters. These chapters allow you to find any section instantly.

This DVD has an extensive menu system to help you navigate through the program with your DVD player's remote control. The DVD includes an "on-disk" printable booklet, animated "play along" tablature, and a printable chapter guide.

The studio version of "The Finish Line" is available on the CD titled "Lucid Intervals and Moments of Clarity Part 2" by Michael Angelo Batio.

he's definitely different and I've learned stuff from him but his "creative choices" combined with his machine gun fire shredding just don't do it for me. He will show you how to invoke feel and emotion into your playing but his just seems so forced. He never reached the same musical status Vai, Malmsteen, or Friedman attained. When you here these guys you really know its them.

His hair is so terrible now. I had long hair but now I'm pretty thin and balding. My look is still better than his right now. He really needs to see a Metal Stylist! lol

You DO realize that's a wig, right?

This guy really kicks ass, not sure why the fuck he won't make a band with a singer.
Also I'm not usually worrying about how badass people look but I just wonder what the deal is with the wig? is it some sort of weird sense of humor?

I know what you mean. I've seen him with a singer - they did stuff from that Hands w/o Shadows CD with all those tributes to Rhoads, Metallica, 'Burn'. I was looking forward to the DVD he put out, but decided not to get it when it didn't have that feeling of a concert. Rather performing live in a studio with no crowd. Am I wrong on that? I mean, Holland or Nitro is not really what I want, but I've seen him live 4 times in WI/IL - sometimes he sang a couple of songs, but heck! if I want to get a DVD of him performing, there should be a crowd there.

Batio is bald, he wore a comb-over in the 80's before the wig. Dean Guitars was founded in 1976 - Batio was 20 years old, yet he "grew up playing Dean?"

His new CD is due next week actually. "HWS 2 - Voices" will have vocals. Other guest players on the CD include Mark Tremonti, Vinnie Moore, George Bellas, Bill Peck, and David Shankle.

This is an instructional DVD noobs. Not concert footage. The Finish Line is a killer song. The vid of it is on YouTube. Speaking of YouTube, I just looked at some of Batio's numbers on YouTube. 6 or 7 million views on the vid for the doubleneck solo. about 4 or 5 million views for his Speed Kills solo, a lot of other videos that are in the millions. I don't know what any of you consider as making it, but those are big numbers. He is all over the major guitar mags and still, all you morons can say is - he has no feeling, I hate his hair, etc... hahahahahahaha. MAB rules.

This is the guy who Ozzy shhould have gone with! Sure he cant play amelody if his life depended on it but he is a great showman and technically speaking he has technique on par with a Jazz guy not a rock guy.

That quad necked harmony stuff he plays is awesome, and he can pick and play that fast with either hand! Truly amazing.

He seems genuine and is a great shredding guitarist. He stands by what he's played in his career, even though he may not have 'grown up' with Dean; he has career-wise. He seems to be 'keepin' it real', as lame as that phrase is.

COMMENT | MAB said he has used Dean since very early in his career

atomicaxe, the idiot poster above seems like a failed musician who is pissed off that he has no career in music. I did an unusual thing for a poster on this thread, I actually watched the whole interview. Batio said that he used Dean Guitars since "very early in his career." That is a lot different from what atomicass quoted MAB as saying. It just goes to show, when you don't want to like something, you can find any excuse and make up anything to justify your reasoning. MAB rules.

I'm not gonna make any comment on batio, but all of you guys who think Malmsteen is god's gift to neoclassical guitar need to wake up. That guy is just as much of an act as every other guitarist that sits around wanking off as fast as he can just because he is able to. Malmsteen is a great technical player and surely has virtuoso skill at the instrument, but do not confuse this with musicality. To tell you the truth, neoclassical guitar as a standalone solo instrument is a damned farce to begin with.
