ALICE IN CHAINS Interviewed By METALLICA's HETFIELD, ULRICH For Broadcast Special - Sep. 7, 2009
James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich of METALLICA have interviewed ALICE IN CHAINS for FMQB Productions' "Inside Alice In Chains: Black Gives Way To Blue" broadcast special, which will air on radio stations across the country starting September 25.

Hetfield joined ALICE IN CHAINS on stage on November 26, 2006 at the Warfield in San Francisco to perform the song "Would?". Watch a fan-filmed video clip at YouTube. A professional-quality clip of Hetfield playing "Would?" with ALICE IN CHAINS at the Rock am Ring festival in Nürburgring, Germany on June 2, 2006 can be viewed below.

When asked by Revolver magazine if he had a close relationship with late ALICE IN CHAINS singer Layne Staley, Hetfield replied, "I wasn't really close with Layne, but I remember going to see ALICE IN CHAINS many times. I remember when we were down in L.A. [in 1991, making 'The Black Album'], I left the studio early to see them play on Clash of the Titans with SLAYER. I was driving like a madman in this rented van, going on the median and scaring the shit out of my friend — 'We gotta get there!' And we get there, and they'd just got off. I was like, 'Aw, man!' [Laughs] I hung with them a little bit, always just loved their music, and I'd say that Jerry [Cantrell, AIC guitarist] and I share some life experiences, like getting a second chance at life and realizing how cool things can be. So we've got kind of a kinship that way. And seeing them play — I just love hearing those songs. Those songs are awesome and should be heard, you know? They were so unique, so ahead of their time. And out of all the Seattle stuff, that stuff is the most timeless. Unfortunately, Layne just loved the junk too much, man, and that was that. I just read in his lyrics his obsessiveness about it. And he knew where he was goin'! It's like, in the school of driving, look where you want to go — and that's what he was doing, it seems like."

Damn.... Hetfield sounds more like himself on this than on his own music.

This tool is fucking joke. Your baseless bashing is not even worth a rebuttal.

I know for me, I love "A Looking In View" and "Check My Brain." The quality for "Acid Bubble" have all been live, so I wont even post judgment on that one. I have always loved AIC for Jerry, its always been his band and he just continues to bust out creative and infectious riffs that get stuck in your head.

Pocker called real good. You really are a dumbass. Here's a little tip for the dense-minded: you don't like it, don't listen to it. It doesn't have to cease to exist just becaue you don't appreciate it. Move along and go listen to your Staind albums and leave AIC to us, thank you.

That is not their most known song, its "Man In The Box" and "Rooster." Personally, I prefer to hear other hits like "I Can't Remember" or "Love, Hate, Love." Those songs need to be played more live.

To me, AIC can survive in 2009. Their new singer is good, the new shit sounds straight up AIC. I don't understand why people rip the band before their CD comes out. Go listen to Nickelback you douchebags!

the harmonic chemistry between Layne and Jerry but William is a perfect fit for the band. I was fortunate enough to see AIC back in the 90's and I can remember the shows like it was yesterday .

Have to disagree, pal. Saw them in Philly the other night. It was friggin Alice In Chains. They delivered on every level. William has a unique voice, and a strong one, at that. I'm pretty sure the new album is gonna be great...

Blows in every sense of a band. Period. No, absolutely no originality. Watered down record label drivel. Their non radio tracks are just as boring and lame. The band has cheese written all over them as does their ultra dumbed down lyrics.

Alice In Chains on their worst day was and is 1000 times better than Nickelcrap.

"into the mud again." Total fail on the lyrics there James. Lost all respect for him after watching him make fun of Layne's addiction. Karma is a bitch James. We had to listen to you whine like a fairy about your addiction on "some kind of monster." Not so easy to deal with, was it.

stands for American Idol Contestant.....which is what DuVall reminds me of.

His singing of A.I.C.'s songs is like Miley Cyrus singing Motorhead. May know the lyrics, but has no emotion.
