ANTHRAX's 'Among The Living' Digitally Remastered And Expanded For CD+DVD Deluxe Edition - Sep. 15, 2009
What many consider to be ANTHRAX's greatest album, 1987's "Among The Living", has been expanded with bonus tracks and a concert DVD, and digitally remastered for the first time, for the CD+DVD package "Among The Living (Deluxe Edition)" (Island/Megaforce/UMe), released November 10, 2009.

Issued simultaneously will be the two-CD set "Caught In A Mosh: BBC Live In Concert" (Island/Megaforce/UMe), which brings together 1987 U.K. concerts from the "Among The Living" world tour recorded at Hammersmith Odeon and the Donington festival. Making its U.S. debut, "Caught In A Mosh: BBC Live In Concert" was originally released internationally in 2007.

"Among The Living", originally produced by Eddie Kramer and ANTHRAX, was the band's third full-length album and featured the lineup of singer Joey Belladonna, lead guitarist Dan Spitz, rhythm guitarist Scott Ian, bassist Frank Bello and drummer Charlie Benante. Building on an underground following with signature tracks such as "I Am The Law", "Caught In A Mosh" and "Indians", the album catapulted ANTHRAX to widespread recognition and earned the group's first gold award. "Among The Living" also marked the height of the band's use of horror and comic book inspirations, with the title track and album cover image based on the Stephen King novel "The Stand", "A Skeleton In The Closet" on King's novella "Apt Pupil", and "I Am The Law" on the comic book character Judge Dredd.

Added for the new "Among The Living (Deluxe Edition)" version are previously unreleased studio outtakes of "Indians", "One World" and "Imitation Of Life", an instrumental of "I'm The Man", a live-in-Dallas 1987 version of "I Am The Law", and "Bud E Luv Bomb And Satan's Lounge Band", originally released as the "I Am The Law" b-side. The bonus DVD is the live-in-London concert film "Oidivnikufesin (N.F.V.)", which went gold when issued on video in 1987. "This record was done at a time when life was moving so fast for us, and I think the music reflects that pace. I really enjoyed going back into 1986/87 and found some great stuff in my vault I had forgot about. I think ANTHRAX fans will enjoy this remastered collection; the high end and low end is back as how it was intended to sound. Thrash metal is alive and well in 'Among The Living'," says drummer Charlie Benante.

Anyways, this will be worth picking up. More bang for the buck as they say.........

1987...Their best release...

That's 22 years ago!

This band still think they're relevant? What they're really doing is to push hard on their semi-glorious past to make us believe they're still valid 2 decades later. Like A LOT of other bands out there.

They're NOT!

(pun intended)

yes their best CD (which is debatable) was 22 years ago, but to say they haven't been relevant for 22 years or that they put out nothing but crap in the last 22 years is just plain stupid. Hell songs from this 22 years old CD are still RELEVANT today. For me this is a classic cassette that I'd like to have in CD format, and the bonus stuff is just icing.

Definately be picking this up, I was at that gig and the album is long overdue a decent re-issue.

I really couldn`t give a fuck if a band are "relevant" or not. I listen to music because *I* like it, not because some trend setter in his metal ivory tower dictates whether it`s currently cool to like it or not.

I hate when they digitally remaster stuff that doesn’t need it, or worse yet they do it and it’s worse. Those remasters of the Megadeth classics were terrible. Especially the Rust in Peace one. Mustaine actually re-recorded some of the vocals (or chose an alternate but worse take from the masters). It’s damn near unlistenable. Foolishly I got rid of my copy of the original issue when I got the sparkling new one, so until I can find an original issue of Rust in Peace pre-2004, I’ll have to settle for listening to old cassette from 1990.

STOP BUTCHERING THE CLASSICS! Although I sometimes like the extras, especially DVDs and such. So, yeah, I might have to get this remastered package for ATL. Damn.

The Megadeth albums were re-mixed as well as re-mastered...AtL shouldn`t sound too different apart from having a bit of extra oomph. As you say, you can always stick with the original. I think all the early Anthrax ( and Testament ) albums could do with remastering personally.

great record, second to Spreading the Disease IMO

I to hated the reissue for Killing is my Business... great record, but didn't need all the re-recordings, plus they added the censored version on Boots.

Yeah, you’re right, the Megadeth ones were re-mixed as well and it was a piss-poor shoddy job to boot. Ugh! Just listened to Peace Sells today and I’m telling you, my old cassette that I got around 88 or 89 sounds better!

A lot of my old thrash albums I still have on cassette (yeah, so I’m a little old school and a cheap bastard), and most of them (the ones not too worn out) sound better than the CD versions! Shit you not. The old Testament classics probably could use remastering on CD, although I think of all of them Practice What You Preach could stay as-is an not be a detriment.

I still have this on Vinyl... I love Anthrax as a band and what they stood for, but for some reason, I could not get into any of their other records (as a whole, though they all have a couple of songs I like)...maybe because I bought this one first and the others just didn't compare...I don't know.

But I WILL be picking this up!

...I don't mind them though, except for "Peace Sells", which to me is unlistenable.

Having said that, I don't think this will be "altered" in that fashion. This will be a really good release.

And to anyone (i.e. - TheEagle) who thinks this band has done nothing relavant since then, please...everything Bush did with this band (and hopefully, will continue to do) was awesome.

Yes, Scott + Charlie have behaved like twats and pulled some douche moves in the past, but that doesn't take anything away from the music. This remains a great band.

Your mother made a monster now get the hell outta my house

I love every Anthrax record (except for Fistful of Metal and Stomp 442). All the rest are great. Obviously Among the Living is the classic. I look forward to this.

Killing is my business reissue presented a DRAMATIC increase in recording quality and is definitely worth owning. I learned to love that record after the remaster whereas before I thought it was just ok. The original recording budget went up Dave's nose and the original version sounds like utter shit. I don't care about These Boots.

Hell, while were at it throw in Slayer’s “Show No Mercy” & “Hell Awaits”, Death Angel’s “The Ultra Violence” and “Frolic in the Park” for the remaster treatment. The process can only improve those particular low-budget recordings.

Metallica got lucky because their first album sounded fucking phenomenal and is one of their better sound recordings. Actually better than the three albums that came after. Of course, Metallica’s best sounding record ever is still the original “Garage Days Re-revisited $5.98 EP”.

Are you kidding me? if anything it sounded too high end, I wish it sounded low and flat, maybe you need someone to fix your equilizer? hahaha! a good Flots record nervertheless.

if anything else these record company's need to add a dvd/ rehearsals/demos to the reissue, in order for me to go out and buy it. IMO all these older thrash records sound fine to me.

Nope. Genuinely unaware, bro, so thanks. I haven't sought that stuff out. I've owned my thrash albums for 20 years on tape and as a cheap bastard, never went out of my way to replace all of it on CD. Metallica, definitely. Death & Carcass, certainly. A handful of Megadeth and Testament, of course. But most of my crusty classics remain on crusty cassettes. Obviously the new stuff I get is on CD. Slowly but sure I'm upgrading my huge backlog. I'm in no big rush.

Considering that Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer have all contributed albums within the past year, it really just seems like Anthrax felt left out and just wanted to get their 2 cents in.

I mean I love Anthrax, but come the fuck on. Really? Are they reallt doing this?

It just seems like a desperate attempt at keeping up with the other 3 Big Four grand slams.

Maybe if they got their shit straight, they wouldn't be in this situation.
