SLAYER: 'World Painted Blood' Artwork Revealed
- Sep. 15, 2009
|
|
SLAYER's "World Painted Blood", the band's highly-anticipated new album set for a November 3 release ( American Recordings), will initially ship with four special collector's edition CD covers. Each of the four covers will display one-fourth of a provocative continental map illustrated with human skulls and bones; when placed together, the four images form a complete and grisly map of the world. (See images below.) All four of the initial CD packages will include a special blood-red, see-through top panel with the map displayed beneath it. The "World Painted Blood Deluxe Edition" will have its own special layout of the map cover art and will be in a double-digipak housed in a blood-red, see-through plastic sleeve. The "Deluxe Edition" will include the "World Painted Blood" CD, the "Playing With Dolls" DVD, a 20-minute animated graphic novel featuring music from the album (including part of a new non-album song), and an expanded booklet. "World Painted Blood" track listing: 01. World Painted Blood02. Unit 731 03. Snuff 04. Beauty Through Order 05. Hate Worldwide 06. Public Display Of Dismemberment 07. Human Strain 08. Americon09. Psychopathy Red 10. Playing With Dolls 11. Not Of This God"As we're so excited about 'World Painted Blood'," said the band's drummer, Dave Lombardo, "we wanted to do something special for the packaging, and have been working with some really cool ideas. They've taken time to get just right, and with our headlining the Mayhem tour for most of the summer, it's just taken that much longer to get all these great ideas exactly the way we want them." There will be three different editions of "World Painted Blood" — a limited-edition CD with multiple CD covers, a deluxe edition CD/DVD, and a high-quality, 180-gram vinyl edition; specifics for all editions will be detailed shortly. "We hope our fans will like everything about 'World Painted Blood' as much as we do," Lombardo continued. "Recording this new album has been one of the greatest experiences we've had as a band. We were together during the writing process more than we had been for past albums, we worked more collectively, everyone's suggestions and ideas were heard and considered, and that camaraderie is definitely heard in the new album." "World Painted Blood" was recorded in Los Angeles over two time periods, during October 2008 and then between late January and March 2009. The CD was produced by Greg Fidelman, who's spent time in the studio with METALLICA, THE GOSSIP, THE (INTERNATIONAL) NOISE CONSPIRACY, SLIPKNOT and others, and executive-produced by longtime SLAYER colleague Rick Rubin, who suggested Fidelman for the project. SLAYER — Tom Araya, guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and Lombardo — recently co-headlined the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival with MARILYN MANSON, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, among others.

I think the "art" work is weak. Ditto for the guitar "tone" on the new track ... the riff sounds recycled - what happened to the tone on God Hates Us All ? ?

I`ll be looking to buy the cd/dvd version.Dave seems to be doing a lot more these days iin the way of interviews and PR stuff for the band, years ago it was only Tom and less so Kerry. I have always liked Tom`s interviews as he`s quite articulate and expressive,i`m not so Keen on Kerry and very pleased that Dave is more so in the spotlight. Can`t wait for the new cd and i hope they play more obscure stuff on the tour,if you`re reading my post Slayer please play `Haredening Of The Arteries` `Haunting The Chapel` and `Crypts Of Eternity`

Stupid little kids with no opinion or lives. There are loads of RiotAct666 imposers, nothing better to do than to pretend they are him.
Anyway, I'm dissappointed with the cover art, I would have preferred something less gimicky than 4 separate covers making up a map, rather just 1 cover that they have put more effort into, though it is a cool idea. Would it have been that hard for them to make the artwork smaller and fit it on one cover, or have the other artwork in the album?
Will be getting the top right or left CD/DVD version I guess.

Who cares about the cover, it's all about whats inside. I'm kinda susprised slayer is doing four diffrent albums covers though. It really seems like they are getting ready for retirement like playing with bands that can fill up arenas insted of slayer being the headliner and puttung the slayer logo on retarted merch.

...seems too much to be a cash grab kinda thing, luring the diehard fans into buying four copies of the same album. That part sucks!
Apart from that, I like the cover art. It's not brilliant, but it's pretty cool. Looking forward to the music now...
About the whole picking-on-RiotAct666 trend: The guy is a positive poster who write supportive comments to the musicians he like. He's just trying to keep this site on a desent level, but alas, he appears to be (almost) alone in his cause. Keep on posting, RiotAct, you the Dalai Lama of Blabberers...
To all the on-pickers: I'm not gonna sink to your level, so I'll just say this: You all have the swine flu and very small testicals. May you all be force fed broken glass. Thank you.

I think it looks great and is pretty creative.
Raw/unrefined cover art is part of Slayer's style...just like their strange guitar solos; it's what makes them unique.

Riot Act is a good guy, and a change from all the idiot haters on here, but he gets annoying because he likes everything, picks up every cd, and thinks everyone rules. That's why he gets some flak. He's almost like a reverse troll or something.
He must be damn rich to be able to pick up all these CDs. In fact, I heard a rumour that it was actually him who bought Ozzy Osbourne's 12 storey former mansion, just so he's got somewehre to keep all his CDs.

OK, how's this?
Love Slayer even though it is very much recycled! Even though they've bought songs they claim to have written. tour with bands they claim to hate. always cashed the check. They love Jesus even though the lyrics don't...It'll still sound like SLAYER. And that is enough, isn't it? First day TORRENT Leech!

I've been posting on BM for about 7 years. At first I posted a lot and got in thread discussions with other posters. RiotAct666 is one of the handful of names that has stuck around for a very long time. He's obviously a positive, dedicated fan of many bands. Good for him. Now I only post when I have something relevant to say about the story or a point of substance made in a thread. Never once in my entire time on BM have I changed my mind about a band or a recording based on the shallow insults of some dumbass on BM so save your energy for other things. Unless it's funny (95% are not) insults are just ignored.
As far as World Painted Blood: I hopr they jettison the hardcore elements and become a pure thrash band again. CI was a step up, maybe this will be another. I can't help feeling this will be the last Slayer album with Tom. For me, no Tom, no Slayer.

it seems to grow on me a little, but nothing great. Maybe there'll be another cover inside that is more graphic like they did with GHUA.
To those wondering about criticizing the cover and should only worry about what's inside...it's art and art will always be critiqued, just like the music will. But you're also right, and I will let the music speak for itself.
I think they should only release each cover in the country that is printed on it.

i don't give a shit what the cover looks like, they just better make the album SOUND good. The music seems pretty decent so far, let's just hope that Rubin gets off his fat bearded ass and makes an effort to clean up Slayer's "raw" "lazy" and "shitty" guitar tone/vocals/drum thud. I refuse to buy christ illusion for its sound (id rather listen to GHUA) WTF ever happened to slayer we all knew and loved? You know before they started down tuning passed their signature E-flat, before putting their radio static distorted vocals way in front in the mix, before they allowed the guitar tone to sound like muddy $50 crate amp, before going overboard on the simplistic punk riff breakdowns, before they started writing trite pissed off teenager lyrics (go back and read the lyrics to "alter of sacrifice" brutal fuckin' poetry) . and before forsaking any kind of ethereal atmosphere like on "Reign in blood" and replacing it with a half-assed attempt at grittiness to be more like Slipknot
Bring back the real SLAYER, back when they gave a shit about their music, and not their clothing line, or their crap endorsements like the signature marshall amp that sounds like a phonograph sinking in a mud puddle

The problem with RobotAct is that he gets really fucking annoying after a while. Sure, he listens to and enjoys a lot of bands, but it seems like the guy has no critical sense whatsoever: Everything is Great interview this, or class act that! So fucking what?
At least produce some valid opinions as to WHY you think it's a great interview or whatever, otherwise it's just completely worthless anonymous opinion. We're allowed to comment on here to discuss shit, not just praise every single person in metal - that's just mindless ballwashing!
You gotta have some kind of preference in your taste for metal music: Either you like glam and hate thrash, or something else. Noone can possibly like everything equally like this guy seems to do.
Come up with some kind of critical response every once in a while and people might take you more seriously eventually.
