LABYRINTH: 'Return To Heaven Denied Pt. 2' - Sep. 18, 2009
Italian metallers LABYRINTH have issued the following update:

"LABYRINTH are ready to enter the studios again, and this time it will be a special occasion to celebrate, as the original lineup is finally back together! After a long time, Olaf [Thorsen, guitar], Andrea [Cantarelli, guitar] and Roberto [Tiranti, vocals] are working again together to the new album, and will soon enter the studios to record the long-awaited 'Return to Heaven Denied Pt. 2', follower of the acclaimed album [released in 1998] which made their name be one of the most well-known ones into power metal scene. You wanted it, you asked for it, you waited for it. Now you will have it. We are ready to return to the heaven denied..."

LABYRINTH's sixth full-length album, "6 Days to Nowhere", was released in February 2007 via Scarlet Records. The mastering took place at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London.

LABYRINTH's fifth album, "Freeman", was released in 2005 through Arise Records. The Italian version of the album contained the exclusive bonus DVD with a Tokyo show (Banzai Tour 2004), "best of" London Cadmen Underworld (Nov. 13, 2004), the "L.Y.A.F.H." and "Freeman" videos, pictures and discography.

LABYRINTH's "Lost" video (taken from "6 Days to Nowhere") can be viewed below.

It's good I can't deny, but my fave is Sons of Thunder on Metal Blade. About as heavy as RTHD, but I like the songs more. I like all their CDs actually, but they've been drifting further away from the earlier, heavier sound they had. I'm guessing this will return to their roots, no?

Their first album was good, but too keyboardy for my taste. I was blown away though by Return to Heaven Denied, and it remains today one of my top two or three albums EVER made in music history. Sadly, the followups really went in a different direction.

I tried to like Sons of Thunder, but to me it was rather meaningless speed, with all the songs sounding the same - the magic wasn't there. The others just didn't do anything for me as the band explored new territory.

But no question, with Return to Heaven Denied something magical happened. I doubt it can be recaptured, but I sure am hell glad they are trying. And it's with the original lineup, and that is essential.

Unlike Helloween, who stupidly called their album Keeper III with that out-of-tune warbler that passes as vocalist and released that piece of garbage. Bands, if you're going to try to do a sequel to a great album, get the original lineup first! Labyrinth is doing it right, like RIOT is with the Thundersteel lineup getting back together!

Good luck Labyrinth. With Tiranti you have one of the best vocalists in metal and Olaf Thorsen is easily one of the very best guitarists metal has ever had. Just listen to this guy's riffs and solos throughout his career, unbelievable player.

Power metal ain't really my bag, but RTHD is a necessary album for anyone who purports to be knowlegable about that style of music. It and Visions are the finest p-metal albums ever.

I look forward to hearing this. I've followed Labÿrinth since 98, and they've kept their music meaningful.
