'Guitar Hero' CEO Comments On KURT COBAIN Controversy

The Pulse of Radio reports: Guitar Hero CEO Dan Rosensweig was asked by NME.com about the controversy surrounding the avatar of NIRVANA frontman Kurt Cobain included in Guitar Hero 5, which can be made to sing songs by artists like BON JOVI and BUSH. Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, has threatened legal action against the company, while the surviving members of NIRVANA have also expressed their disapproval. Rosensweig, however, said, "I do know that there's absolutely a contract and we know that the check has been cashed. I can only deal with the facts. It's very clear what the terms are." Regarding the statement by NIRVANA members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, Rosensweig added, "We care about the artists more than anyone else and we would like to make artists happy in every circumstance. I'm disappointed in this case that there seems to be confusion between the band and the estate. It's really not Guitar Hero's confusion. We went and spoke directly to the estate and made it crystal clear, got the rights, paid for the rights, and really we've done what we've always done. The fact that the rest of the band and the estate did not communicate . . . I can't speak for everybody being happy." Neither Love, Grohl nor Novoselic have commented on Rosensweig's remarks yet. Meanwhile, Jon Bon Jovi has come down on the side of NIRVANA and Love, telling the BBC, "I don't know that I would have wanted it either. To hear someone else's voice coming out of a cartoon version of me? I don't know. It sounds a little forced."

When girlfriends of dead rockers realizes there's not much new income in the account, they start selling their defunct's art here and there (Uno, Love, Miss Darrell). Fact.

I understand the band being upset .. but if Rosenszweig's statement is accurate, this falls squarely on Courtney's shoulders.
Like that was surprising in the first place.

Id trust a CEO of a company more than, say, a politician or a drug addict musician who kills himself or puts himself in the position to get killed by his scumbag girlfriend. Im sure the CEO wanted to make GH5 for the sole reason of ruining Cobain's image. Makes perfect sense

I just find it funny that this has gotten as big as it has, controversy wise. To me, there's really nothing controversial about it at all. A company wanted to use his likeness, essentially as a homage, and people get bent out of shape. I'm pretty sure it wasn't just to cash in. Especially considering a lot of GH players are younger and quite frankly Cobain isn't relevant to that generation at all as he was to the generation before.

An article on the making of Kurt for the game came out and the VFX artists talke about Love emailing them suggestions about what he should wear, the colour of the clothes, how much facial hair he should have etc.
It is a bloody video game who cares if it shows him singing Bush or Bon-Jovi.
