THE RED SHORE Bassist On Trial For Allegedly Causing Deaths Of Bandmate, Roadie - Sep. 22, 2009
Matt Deans of Australia's Coffs Coast Advocate reports: The bass player of a heavy metal band allegedly fell asleep at the wheel prior to a fatal accident, which claimed the lives of two men, north of Coffs Harbour.

Jamie Hope, 23, a member of Geelong band THE RED SHORE, is on trial in the District Court accused of causing the deaths of two of his fellow band members.

Lead singer Damien Morris and roadie Andy Milner were killed after a mini bus carrying eight people crashed into a tree on the Pacific Highway at Moonee, near Cunningham's Bridge, on December 19, 2007.

Morris died at the scene, while Milner later died in hospital.

Three other men also suffered serious injuries.

The musicians were headed to Sydney to play a gig after performing in Brisbane the previous night when their rented white mini-bus careered off the highway and crashed into a tree.

Falling asleep, thats an accident. If he gets time for that, that is Bullshit. He already has to live with the fact that he killed two of his best friends. Thats going to fuck him up for the rest of his life alone.

Sounds like an accident. Of course I don't any details aside from what I just read. Obviously there was no intent. Maybe prosecutors feel he was somehow neglegent?

they'll most likely say it was negligence, regardless of whether he was intoxicated. I'm a fan of this band so to not only see their original vocalist pass away but now their bassist on trial for it...under any circumstances that's bad news.

There's no need to be putting this guy on trial for this. Things are already shitty enough for him.

Seriously, that's just taking an already bad situation and making it worse. Here's hoping nothing comes out of it for the guy.

The bus driver who killed Cliff Burton didn't even get an charges filed against him, let alone go to trial.

And before someone complains.....I am not comparing The Red Shore to Metallica.

Anybody who plays in a band knows that sometimes after you play a gig you need to load your shit up and get the fuck out of there to make it to the next show on time... and yes that usually means somebody as tired as the rest of the band driving while everyone else catches sleep; But! Everybody in a band is aware and well knowing of the risks involved, it's called trust and sometimes like in this incident, shit got fucked up. And the fucked up thing is, it might be the families of the deceased trying to charge the bassist for the accident, that's why Cliff Burtons driver didn't go to trial... if that's the case, fuckin sad..

This guy will live with his guilt for the rest of his life, no need to put him into further pain.

RIP for the two other guys

Man, i feel for all of them. Really, it was an accident, so i don't see how charging him will be of any benefit.

Yeah surely it's a family member pressing the charges cause I don't see how he could still be playing in the band all the while the rest of the band is planning on charging him with it.
