EPICA: 'Unleashed' Video Released - Sep. 25, 2009
"Unleashed", the new video from Dutch female-fronted symphonic metallers EPICA, can be viewed below. The clip was shot over an 18-hour period at a location near Berlin, Germany.

"Unleashed" comes off EPICA's new album, "Design Your Universe", which is due in Europe on October 16 . The follow-up to 2007's "The Divine Conspiracy" was recorded at Gate Studio in Wolfsburg, Germany with producer Sascha Paeth.

"Design Your Universe" track listing:

01. Samadhi (prelude)
02. Resign to Surrender (A New Age Dawns - Part IV)
03. Unleashed
04. Martyr of the Free Word
05. Our Destiny
06. Kingdom of Heaven (A New Age Dawns - Part V)
07. The Price of Freedom (interlude)
08. Burn to a Cinder
09. Tides of Time
10. Deconstruct
11. Semblance of Liberty
12. White Waters
13. Design Your Universe (A New Age Dawns - Part VI)

The song "Resign to Surrender (A New Age Dawns - Part IV)" is available for streaming on the MySpace page of the European branch of Nuclear Blast Records.

The cover artwork for "Design Your Universe" can be viewed below (artwork by Stefan Heilemann).

EPICA guitarist Mark Jansen previously stated about the new CD: "It's been a great time at Gate Studio in Wolfsburg recording 'Design Your Universe'. We worked with the same team and we worked for the first time together with our new guitar player Isaac Delahaye [formerly of GOD DETHRONED]. This made a difference and made things very refreshing because we could add some new elements because of him. We have worked harder than ever on the details. We preferred to spend some extra money on great additions which brings our songs to a higher level instead of leaving things like they are. The result is that we worked so hard on this album that we hardly can listen to the album anymore. Now it's time to let it go and release it to humanity. We were already very happy with 'The Divine Conspiracy', but I'm sure this new album tops that one."

He added, "The album title, 'Design Your Universe', deals with new breakthroughs in quantum physics. It proves that we are all connected to each other on subatomic level. Also, it shows that we can create or at least influence matter with our thoughts… a very interesting fact. Because it changes everything for us, our whole worldview collapses once you accept these facts and integrate them in your lives. So this had to become the new album title."

EPICA will return to North America for a headlining tour in the beginning of 2010, with DAATH and BLACKGUARD as support. EPICA will offer fans a special VIP ticket which will grant them access to the venue an hour before door times, a pre-show meet-and-greet with EPICA and a event poster customized for the city of the show. Fans are urged to purchase these VIP tickets as only 50 are being allotted for each show.

A lame soap opera story with bad actors and amateur production coupled with lame generic "metal" background music (opera chorus included of course!). Way to EPIC FAIL.

The videoclip suck ! Wtf with the story... look like the bad production of their clip "Solitary Ground". And I didn't like that much this song. I hope the album is better...

I think the song is great, a little bit commercial to render it accessible to a large audience (not as heavy as some of their other songs, and no grunting parts that are a part of what I love with Epica), but very well constructed and produced, the choirs are good as the orchestrals are, the lyrics are excellent and Simone is a great vocalist.

As for the video, it's a little bit commercial, as the song is, but not that bad, I love when the Epica guys haunts the guy, it's really good and well directed!

But there will be heavier songs on the album, cant wait to listen to Kingdom of Heaven, all critic said it's an amazing track!

That clip really sucks! Like someone with no idea of filming filmed it. If you see it and hear the music at the same time, it even makes the song look bad.. Without the clip, the song is awesome though.

The song is great, the video... not so much, but well, none of their videos have been particularly good so it doesn't bother me at all.

I still say Beyonce's video was much better - in fact that was one of the best videos of all time. But this video, I agree with most of the others - only liked for Simone. Rock videos maybe work better for the simple minded. I'd rather see the band perform than be distracted by a story on the screen.

COMMENT | I think it sounds terrible

...and I usually like Epica. I was hoping to hear more of the Operatic elements.

simone sounds better, the song is too generic and more operatic, than it would need to be to be poppy enough !

You 're caugh between a rock and a hard place.
I 'd either elect to be symphonic or pop. To pull of sympho-pop you got to be very capable at stealing nursery rhymes :P

I expect much heavier on the album, but I think this song is quite good. The video, on the other hand...I had no idea what the fuck was going on. Just really poorly put together.

Their drummer is a fuckin' beast, though.

And I wish I could be in a straight jacket with Simone in a nurse outfit, if you know what I mean... ;)

whoa, I'm not usually that much into female singers as their voices are not that appealing to me but this chic is awesome! One of the best I've heard. Damn good front woman too. Cool no grunting crap at least on this song. Video isn't too horrible but yeah can't tell what's going on. They need to show some ass shots of her

COMMENT | Another great song by Epica

I've been humming this song in my head over and over today- I adore it. It;s an awesome song- but the video is ok, nothing great... Although I would be pretty damn nervous if all of Epica was chasing me down and haunting me!

And am I the only one who is sickened at the comments towards Simone? She is a lovely woman sure but she is also one smart cookie, and only in your far away dreams will she ever star in a porn. ;)
