THE KOVENANT To Perform Entire 'Nexus Polaris' Album At Next Year's INFERNO Festival - Oct. 1, 2009
Norwegian extreme metallers THE KOVENANT have been confirmed for next year's installment of the Inferno festival, set to take place March 31 - April 3, 2010 in Oslo, Norway. The band will play the entire "Nexus Polaris" album live with original members Nagash, Psy Coma, Hellhammer, Sverd and Jezebel Deva.

THE KOVENANT was formed in 1992 by two black metal artists known as Nagash (Stian Arnesen) and Blackheart (Amund Svensson), who released the band's debut-album, "In Times Before the Light", in 1997. The band signed with the German record company Nuclear Blast in 1998 and recruited four other members to form an actual band: Astennu (of DIMMU BORGIR, CARPE TENEBRUM), Sverd (of ARCTURUS), Sarah Jezebel Deva (of CRADLE OF FILTH and others), and Hellhammer (of MAYHEM and others). With these new recruits, they released their second album, "Nexus Polaris", which was hugely successful and is largely considered their best album to date by fans. The album also resulted in the band getting a Norwegian Grammy-equivalent for "Best Hard Rock Band" in 1998.

Next year's Inferno festival will feature performances by the following artists:

MAYHEM
FINNTROLL
TAAKE
THE KOVENANT

More bands will be announced soon.

Few Norwegian music festivals can equal the international status that the Inferno festival now holds. The festival, voted as one of the 10 best in the world by the readers of Terrorizer magazine, continues to grow and is considered the Norwegian metal community's most important gathering.

For four days during Easter, people fly in from England, Sweden, Germany, Italy, the USA and even India to experience extreme metal in Norway's capital.

The festival was started in 2001 by BORKNAGAR guitarist Jens Ryland who wanted the Norwegian metal community to come together for a celebration of extreme music.

Brilliant!!

I sure as hell hope this is recorded in some way, hopefully video. Does inferno have dvd releases like wacken?

Awesome they managed to grab hellhammer. His drumming is so entertaining in this album. Sverd's not doing much after Arcturus disbanded but its nice to see hes still involved music. Astennu, i believe, moved back to Australia where he does sound engineering. It may be possible that there is bad blood between them as there was in dimmu back when he was fired/kicked out. I would imagine he has no interest in this. I will admit, however, that his guitar work was pretty solid on that album and his melodic solos are top notch.

One of the most underrated albums in extreme metal . Probably due to the band never picking up international momentum early on. Possibly from their constant cycle of album release followed by years of inactivity.

Oh it would be great to see them playing this excellent album, anyway my favourite record is In times before the light.

And what about the new album? We´re still waiting for new music guys!!!

I just can't stand what they did afterwards once they started spelling their name with a "K" (legal reasons or not), but I really liked the riffs and the drumming on the "Nexus Polaris" record.

Nexus Polaris is one of my favorite extreme albums of ALL TIME. They should have stayed with the formula on this album...

Why? I guess the paychack was worth it. This band vanished for a good reason back then.

Another bandwagon jumper looking to cash-in on past glories.

They wouldn't stand on their own with a new album these days. They know it.
