Former DEATH/CONTROL DENIED Guitarist Suffers Heart Attack; Financial Assistance Needed - Oct. 1, 2009
Last month, Shannon Hamm, guitarist for DEATH and CONTROL DENIED, and mastermind behind up-and-coming band BEYOND UNKNOWN, found himself in the ICU (Intensive Care unit) of his local hospital. As it turns out, he had suffered a serious heart attack while at home.

Commented Shannon: "Due to a complete arterial blockage, I suffered a near-fatal heart attack (I would have been dead inside an hour had 911 not been called) resulting in an emergency procedure in which a 3 mm x 18 mm coronary stent was placed in my heart via cardiac catheterization, sealed at the groin with an angio-seal vascular closure device. This means a tube with a camera was run through my arteries/heart via my groin. My heart rate is being kept between 48 and 53 beats per minute, and I will continue to see the cardiologist and family doctor indefinitely, as well as undergo various tests and blood work on an ongoing basis."

Shannon, like so many of us, lives without any health insurance.

In order to assist him continue care and cover mounting medical bills, prescription costs, and basic living expenses, his friends and family are reaching out to the musical community. Family has opened a special fund in his name and we welcome any assistance that fans, friends, and family may be able to offer. We realize that current economic conditions have hit most of us very hard but anything can make a difference, especially when we all come together.

is why we need a single payer, public option for health care. If this guy would be living in canada all of his medical bills would be payed for. ALL medical would be payed for. American health system sucks ass. The guy will probly be close to losing his house after this. All the best to him though.

Best wishes to the guy, hope he gets better.

Let us now open the health care can of worms.
Here in Canada, all his medical bills are paid. Money never even factors in.
I just laugh when I hear Americans bash public health care. Obama's been taking a real sh*t kicking over his reforms.
You guys have got to get this "socialist/commie" crap out of your brain-washed heads. McCarthyism is still alive and well in America, and is currently defending your health care 'system'.
Too many people in your country make trillions from your ill-health, and you and your children's lives mean nothing to them in the shadow of all that cash.

My doctor is not Stalin or Hitler, and I am free to see any doctor I wish. Canadian health care rules, bash it all you want, but I'll never suffer financially from any illness. EVER.
Stop listening to overlords. They don't give a shit about you.

"If this guy would be living in canada all of his medical bills would be payed for."

If this guy lived in Canada, he would be dead right now. Depending on which part of Canada he lived in, who knows what the emergency response would have been. Also, insurance coverage and medical treatment is not a right. You have have no right to demand that someone be your doctor and give you medical treatment. You do have the option to pay someone for their service. You people who think that government run health care would be so great, check out the V.A. hospitals in this country. That is government run health care. Name one program that the government is in charge of, that is suppose to benefit the citizens of the United States, that is run with any competence.

There you go, right there. See what I mean? You've been so brain washed it's un-freakin believable.
"No right to demand that someone be your doctor?" I have never in my 40 years of life EVER seen a doctor refuse ANYONE treatment.
And also, medical treatment IS INDEED a right.

If your doctor does give you a hassle, you can pick another. Stop listening to Ted Nugent, dude. He's probably got shares in Pfizer.

Medical treatment not a right? According to the insurance companies and Republicans you have a point. The "Right to Life" movement (and let's not BS ourselves, medical treatment = life) apparently only applies until you leave the womb.

So why would getting your house extinquished from flames be a right? or getting help from a police officer if somebody took your wallet? They are jobs to, and they should be paid for their service to right?

How f++ing ignorant are you? who defines what is a right or not? Why would a house have more rights than a human? So the house can get treatment when its sick (fire) but a human can not?

Damn, materialistic things and property has more rights than you do!! you really are dumb...

Now on to the politics.
I get tired of people using canada's healthcare system as an example of "how to do it right." Have you canadians looked at your taxes lately?? I've spent plenty of time in canada and everytime I'm there I can't believe the taxes you pay on everything. ALSO, you're not comparing apples to apples. Canada has 30Million people, the states have 330Million people. You can't just copy and paste the canadian system and expect it to work here.

I am against socialized health care for this reason and this reason alone. My money is my money, I'm not going to pay for a smokers lung cancer treatments, I'm not going to pay for somebodies breast implants etc.. Now I know you're going to say "but that's not how it works" ... but trust me, the way our govt runs things that's exactly how it will work. Let me worry about me, You can worry about you.

This guy is an amzing guitarist and absolutely killed it on The Sound of Persaverance and Fragile Art of Existence albums - best wishes to him and his family.

The US healthcare system is a joke - the health insurance companies own congress and the whole country for the mostpart. I like Obama but I wish he would grow some balls and put all the paranoid hyper-religious redneck sociopaths from the Republican party in their place and steamroll what he wants through. But that probably won't happen because the Democrats have no backbone and always blow their chance. A friend of mine moved to Sweden and it's amazing to see a government that actually puts the need of it's people above all else.....if I didn't already have a career with benefits I'd leave here immediately.

Anthem, there are SOOOOOO many things wrong with your post it makes me embarrassed to share the same species as you. "We have good, affordable health insurance" no, no, no, no, no. I pay $274 a month for basic health care , that does not cover half the things I go to the doctors for, nor does it cover my wife. Where are you finding "good, affordable health insurance", does your coverage have maternity, prescription, what's your deductible, co-pay? Or do you get insurance from your Pizza Hut job?

You spent 3 days in the hospital and had a $9000 surgery and you only paid $800 out of pocket. Nonsense, you are lying! Unless, as later on in your post indicated, you are in the military, so you had your surgery at a VA hospital. ie a GOVERNMENT run hospital. There is NO CHANCE that a private citizen in a regular hospital spends 3 days in the hospital and has a $9000 surgery and pays $800 for it, just not possible. Nice try though...

It is a problem because it could be the first thing they come for. Next will be the first amendment. And why trust the government, WHICH HAPPENS TO BE BROKEN ITSELF, to fix a system when they can't look inward and fix themselves. Seriously think about it. Both parties are sided with whomever can line their pockets. I appreciate Obama taking a stance and finally saying something, but at the end of the day he is a politician, and politicians can't be trusted. Oh and BTW you naive prick I never said I was a republican. I do not appreciate being associated with them, or democrats for that matter. I am neither.
