ANVIL's re-release of the group's latest album, "This is Thirteen", sold around 1,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at position No. 19 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"This is Thirteen" was finally given proper national distribution on CD and vinyl on September 15 via VH1 Classic Records. The collectible double vinyl LP boasts newly re-recorded versions of ANVIL classics "Metal on Metal" and "666". The album, originally recorded in 2007 and produced by Chris Tsangarides (JUDAS PRIEST, THIN LIZZY), was primarily available directly from the band via their web site and at their concerts.

ANVIL, considered a major influence for a generation of hard rockers including METALLICA, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, and GUNS N' ROSES, was the subject of a critically acclaimed, must-see rock-doc, "Anvil! The Story of Anvil", directed by Sacha Gervasi. And in the process, the film has made the group (led by Kudlow and Reiner — both founding members) a household name. But the group's story will certainly not end with the film.

According to RollingStone.com, ANVIL is currently re-recording several other classics with producer Chris Tsangarides, which will be included on a forthcoming "Anvil!" soundtrack. "What happened was the label that owns the old material wanted so much money to license the songs, that it became ridiculous," explained Lips. "In fact, it was far cheaper to go in and re-record in the same studio [Phase One], with the same producer, and re-do the songs. The new version of 'Forged in Fire' is amazing — I think the original version was played too fast. Remarkably, we're getting a second chance to record the songs."

Other freshly re-recorded tunes are "Winged Assassins", "March Of The Crabs", and "School Love". "It's going to be a true 'Best of Anvil', in a way," added Reiner.

I hope it only gets better from here, and that they respond in kind by making it even MORE METAL THAN EVER. Heavier, more crushing and devastating fucking METAL.

Remember what happened with TS between 'Stay Hungry' and 'Come Out And Play'??? DON'T DO THAT!

Anvil has a great opportunity to expose a bazillion people to REAL metal - Don't fuck it up!

Ginfire- I'm guessing the "89" is his date of birth meaning Kiss probably fucked his mother in the 80s.

They are playin House of Blues in Dallas, that seems like an awful large venue, no offense intended, but thats where Mastodon/Dethklok are playing, its a fairly large place.

I feel badly for Lip's sister and want her to get her $ back.

1500 copies should be a good start to that seeing how that they recorded it for 14000 Lbs, which is about 25-30k US based on the exchange rate at the time.

I'll consider checking out the Cleveland date, but to be honest, they sounded kinda bad on That Metal Show. The rhythm section was pretty tight, but Lips always seemed like he was a 1/2 a step behind, both with his guitar and his vocals. And he seemed a little sloppy to boot.

And from the doc, he seems like he's got a bit of...I don't know how to say it...I think he feels they deserve to be as big as they already are in his mind. He didn't come off looking the best, always picking fights and getting physical with everyone, from a promoter (understandable, based on what we saw) to his own drummer (not so excusable). And he sounded pretty rough laying down his vocals for the new album.

But they remind me of Raven and to some degree Venom, and I like those bands, so maybe I'll give 'em a chance. I liked the music for sure, but the vocals could have been fine-tuned, so to speak, a bit more. And hopefully Lips grows up some; he seems to have a crappy attitude and is sort of like an overgrown adolescent at times. But I watching the doc I felt it like a 15 min of fame type thing, more than anything.

...will be there!

In regards to the above, I agree none of their more recent albums comes close to MOM or FIF (although I love PFP too), but this band deserves SOME success (notice I said "some" and not zillions of dollars) after all these years.
