MEGADETH, SLAYER Kick Off New Zealand/Australia Tour In Auckland; Review Available - Oct. 5, 2009
MEGADETH and SLAYER kicked off their tour of New Zealand and Australia earlier tonight (Monday, October 5) at Logan Campbell Centre in Auckland, New Zealand.

A review of the concert can be found on The New Zealand Herald web site.

Regarding MEGADETH's performance, The New Zealand Herald reporter Scott Kara writes, "He may not have had the mass success of METALLICA, but [MEGADETH guitarist/vocalist Dave] Mustaine shows why he is one of the most revered metal guitarists around. His famously furrowed lips might be a sign of concentration, but it's his fingers that conjure up a sound that's flowery, potent and heavy all in one.

"Along with his new axeman Chris Broderick, MEGADETH storm their way through a set of old songs, with 1986's 'Devil's Island' a shout-a-long highlight, mixed with new, including the hillbilly thrash of 'Head Crusher' off new album 'Endgame'."

MEGADETH's setlist was as follows:

01. Set The World Afire
02. Wake Up Dead
03. Hangar 18
04. Devil's Island
05. Skin O' My Teeth
06. Head Crusher
07. She-Wolf
08. Sweating Bullets
09. Tornado Of Souls
10. Sleepwalker
11. Rattlehead
12. Symphony Of Destruction
13. Peace Sells
------------------
14. Holy Wars/Mechanix

Going to this tomorrow night, just wish Megadeth would throw in a few more songs from Endgame.

Maybe just 1 more from EndGame. Metallica does 6 from the new one...WAY too much. Megadeth is playing with SLAYER - They need to BRING IT big time and this setlist does just that.

I guess it has to be a shorter setlist coz they're co-headling with Slayer, but yeah, I'd like a bit more from Endgame (This Day We Fight or 1320 perhaps).

Was it the extended version of She Wolf, like on Rude Awakening? I'm seeing them in Melb, and I love the long version!

Where's the opening from the album. They should do Dialectic Chaos/This Day We Fight! live for sure. Maybe 1320 or 44 Minutes as well.

Sweating Bullets! That song has sucked since day 1! Sweating Bullets instead of In my Darkest Hour, Go to Hell, The Conjuring, Lucretia and around 8 more instead of that.

amazing show! btw blabbermouth has it wrong, there was no mechanix. i thought megadeth had a better setlist but slayer had a better everything else. better energy, stage presence, crowd interaction and even sound quality. for those interested the slayer set list was:
1. world painted blood
2. war ensemble
3. jihad
4. psycopathy red
5. born of fire
6. manditory suicide
7. chemical warfare
8. ghost of war
9. hate worldwide
10. disciple
11. dead skin mask
12. hell awaits
13 angel of death
14 south of heaven
----------------
15 raining blood

Swap symphony and sweating bullets with this day we fight and 13,20, and fuck yeah, but without complaining too much, thats awesome...

& baphomet333, serious? That is a fucking awesome Slayer setlist, best in a long while!! all they need there is just on show no mercy song and thats got to be damn near perfect considering all the material they've got and could've chosen.

yeah i can see what you are saying, another new song from megadeth would have been cool also was hoping for angry again but overall there was a great range in there. whereas slayer opened with a song i had heard once and i'm sure 90% of the crowd hadn't heard yet, and being quite a long song it took some effort to get into. war ensemble opened the pit right up, as always. this was the second time i've seen slayer and last time their set was much longer (cause it was their own show) and just seemed more thorough. i wanted to hear more from seasons. this is just me being fussy, i am a much bigger slayer fan and enjoyed them more. hell awaits was the song of the set for me. great to see them both in one night, hope to see them again soon.

Yeah, but you gotta remember Metallica started out only playing 4 new songs when they first started the tour. Megadeth will add more new songs in later legs of the tour. And they should. If Dave's complaining about the lack of support for the new album from Roadrunner, then Megadeth needs to do their part and support the album in a live setting. No excuse not playing at least a 1/4 of a new album. Although, with shorter a set (looks like roughly 1 hr 15 mins), a minimum of two songs would be respectable.

I missed out on tickets to the Melbourne show, and now I find out they're playing Rattlehead? Why couldn't they have played that in '06.
