EVILE Bassist Dies At 32

Just a few days into the band's European tour with AMON AMARTH, bassist Mike Alexander of British thrashers EVILE was suddenly taken ill and rushed to hospital, but tragically passed away in Luleå, Sweden [on Monday, October 5]. He was 32 years old. EVILE members Matt Drake, Ol Drake and Ben Carter have released the following statement: "This is so hard to find the words to express fully how we feel. We can't believe or accept what's happened. One minute we're talking to our buddy, Mike, the next minute we can never speak to him again. "There's so many things rushing through our heads that we want to say, do and feel. We half expect him to come round the corner and call us 'dickheads'. We can't get our heads around it. "It upsets us so much that he was away from his family when this happened, although knowing Mike, we're at least glad he was on tour doing what he loves. "We're lost for words. We all miss him so much already. He was such a headstrong, genuinely nice guy who loved music and his family. We've got so many brilliant memories with him. "Our hearts go out to his daughter, family and friends at this tragic, difficult time. " Mike is much loved and is sorely missed. "Rest in peace, brother." BrooklynRocks conducted an interview with Ol Drake and Mike Alexander on August 20, 2009 at the Earache Records offices in New York City. Watch the chat below. I was listening to their new cd last night while at work on 3rd shift. A good thrash cd always seems to make the night go by quicker. And a good thrash cd it was.

He was a true thrasher indeed. Evile are such a down to earth band - genuinely nice and appreciative guys flying the flag for UK metal. I really feel for them and Mike's family. I'll crank up the albums to remember him.

Evile is a light at the end of the tunnel of shitty music and i hope they have the strength to carry on even though no one can fill such a tragic void. Rest in Peace Mike!

This is absolutely heartbreaking. This band has really climbed the ranks amongst my favorites as of late. I hope they can recover. I feel awful that he is leaving a little girl and a wife behind. :( RIP Mike.

This truly is heartbreaking. Not only is 32 way to young to die, but to have it be from a band that I love, it is sickening.

WHAT THE FUCK!!!!! Iv just stared at my monitor in total shock,my deepest sympathies go out to his bandmates and friends but most importantly to his family,god knows what their going through.
Only the good die young,heaven has just recruited a shithot bassist.im a massive evile fan,hope the rest of the guys gather their thoughts and regroup,Mike wouldnt want the band to break up.EVILE on repeat for the rest of the week on my cd player.

Kinda ironic that they started as a Metallica tribute band and lose their bassist in Sweden...
Saw them at Tuska Open Air, Helsinki, Finland this summer. Front row. Best gig of the festival for me, he and the band tore the place apart.

This is such a shocker. 32...that's just way too young. He was a great bassist, made some awesome music, and was just a plain old solid guy on the occasions when I met the band.
I can't believe it, just released their second album and bam, this happens...

Damn that is some very shocking and terrible news. I just got the new album last week and have been playing it back and forth to work every day.
My thoughts go out to the band,all the families, and friends. Truly a sad day and to see someone go so young.
I can only hope the band can find strength in the great music they made together and can somehow someday forge on because the metal world needs more bands like Evile.

Man I just saw them last friday (2.10) in Helsinki! He was hanging near by enjoying himself after the gig with fans, smokin' cigarettes and having a drink. Seemed to be a real nice guy, so did the rest of the band. My breath totally stopped for a while when my buddy send me a sms about this. This is kinda reminiscent of when Cliff died in Småland, SWE back in '86. I am truly saddened by this and will hail his short but valuable legacy with this great band by listening to their asskicking new album. Nosophoros is a standout track. Thank you for your contribution.
I'm gonna have to light a candle for you MIKE!

Sudden deaths , could be caused from anything ranging from aneurisms, to chemical imbalances (not drug related - could be allergies or poisoning) or some very rare forms of galloping cancer, that can kill you in a matter of days. I suppose if they feel like saying they might announce it, but its a private matter, and satisfying the bystanders curiosity, is not something that should be taken as granted, or even be suggested.
Let time heal the wounds, of those who loved him.
Doesn't matter anyway, the best to his family and bandmates. May he be remembered for doing well what he did best, making music.

I'm not familiar with Evile, so I'm bringing them up on MySpace now to listen.
However, while that's queuing up, the most important thing is to hope Mike rests/rocks in peace. I make it a point to read the article when any musician dies, and this is just another tragic, tragic event. This is absolutely horrible, losing him so quickly out of nowhere.
My condolences and best wishes to his friends, bandmates, and family -- I'm positive he was just as great a person as everyone has said he was.

Well that ruined my day. I Guess Cliff, Felix Pappalardi and Phil Lynott will have some serious competion up there in Bass God Heaven. Mike was a Massive Thrash Bassist, I haven't had a chance to get Infected Nations yet but I know it and Mike's Basslines will crush when I get it on Payday as I was Planning. My thought go to his friends & family, this is terrible to die so young. Also sobering because I'm 4 years older and Drink Beer and smoke weed every day. It had to be some kind of sudden onset of some strange disease that took a HORSE like Mike down so quick. Just look at the guy, he seemed in great health. Matt, Ben & OL, Thrash on brothers, you're in our minds...

My thoughts are with his bandmates, friends, family and loved ones. Such a sad loss. I was looking forward to seeing Evile live sometime. They're an awesome band.

I just heard Evile for the first time on friday, went to see them live on saturday 3.10. , talked a great while with Mike, having such a great time! and two days later he's dead....I don't know what to say, I'm heartbroken.
