Former ANTHRAX Singer DAN NELSON Joins Forces With TESTAMENT's BOSTAPH In New Project - Oct. 6, 2009
The Metal Den's Randy "Rocket" Cody recently conducted an interview with former ANTHRAX vocalist Dan Nelson. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

The Metal Den: You issued a statement in concern with the whole ANTHRAX matter via your manager back in July, so I am not here to beat a dead horse on the subject. Looking back on it all now though, would you agree that there was a serious "chemistry" issue going on with you and the other band mates? Or with maybe one person in particular?

Dan: I've always felt that it's better to move on in life and look forward to the future… rather than concern yourself with the past.

The Metal Den: Anyone who was out at the shows or watched video of your live performance while in the band continues to shake their heads at all of this, because you clearly would've ended up being very successful with them. Do you ever sit back now and think about what could have been had you remained in ANTHRAX?

Dan: I never live my life with any regrets and never look back and wish I did something different. I chose instead to look forward to the future. We did some great things in the time we wrote and performed together, and I am very proud of that.

The Metal Den: After hearing your version of "Worship Music" (with your vocals on it), do you think fans would have dug it as much as it was being anticipated?

Dan: Absolutely.

The Metal Den: You told me you're now working on a new musical project. Is it going to be a solo Dan Nelson effort? Or with a new band entirely?

Dan: I have been writing my own music. But I am singing and playing guitar in the band INSIDE HOLLOW, as well as working on a new metal project with Paul Bostaph [TESTAMENT, SLAYER, EXODUS, FORBIDDEN] that is coming out killer! Where is it being recorded and who is producing it? No set studios or producers just yet. We are still in the writing process with both bands.

Read the entire interview from The Metal Den.

Video footage of ANTHRAX's June 28, 2009 concert (with soundboard-quality audio) at the Graspop Metal Meeting on the festival grounds of the Boeretang in Dessel, Belgium can be viewed below.

He sounds good in this clip. Surprised. Oh well Thrax is done. No singer. If the Big Four tour happens, we'll go though all of the singer arguments for another year.

I can't believe Anthrax actually let that disaster sing for them. He sounds fucking terrible, out of key and cracking all over the place. How can anyone say "he sounds good on this clip"?

Bostoph with that douche? What is he thinking? They should get Newstead and Marty Freidman and call themselves "The New Guys Everyone Always Just Compares to Our Predecessors"

I really shouldn't be shocked by anything posted on Blabbermouth anymore, but the post above mine by Mike Dedly surprised me a little. I listened to entire Madhouse clip with a critical ear and there is only one possible conclusion -you sir are tone deaf and talking out of your ass. Dan doesn't go out of key once on that clip. Dan sounds just fine and you sound like an idiot.

I hate to say it but Dan Nelson voice is cracking and he sounds good at times but not so good in others. He does a better job than Bush on this song but Joey is and always will be the man

that was a terrible performance. you'd think such a simple song from their early career would just flow, but instead it's totally erratic with shitty drumming and inconsistent vocals.

amazing how they were the first thrashers to hit arenas in 86 opening for sabbath, even before metallica did a month later with ozzy. they were ok too but boy they went downhill fast just a couple years later.

they better get testament instead for that big 4 tour, now that's a real band.

No accounting for taste but I still like these guys. I like every album back to Among the living except for maybe State of Euphoria and Stomp 442.

Charlie is a pretty good drummer for what he does normally. I dont see that performance as the attrocity described above. As for Dan sounding closer to the original than Bush, that's great but not saying much. I got sick of Joey's Steve Perry wannabe singing style.

Bush is the man. Anthrax can still produce. And I truly hope this Bostaph thing is a joke.

As someone who actually saw Anthrax with Dan Nelson I can happily say the guy fitted in the band and was/is a fantastic singer.

Was so much better seeing them fronted again by Bush at Sonisphere though, as he is the man to take Anthrax forward and the best Anthrax vocalist.

Understand that if your going to have anything to do with music in the "future" you will get asked about your time in, and what happened with Anthrax. If you have a problem with this you need to think about a career change quickly.

I don't question why he was kicked to the curb. His vocals are all over the place. Almost like he's trying to be a bit of Joey and John combined.

Who were they opening for ?

OF COURSE they are gonna film THERE........

If they filmed it on their own tour, it would have been
in a 200 seater TOPS !

NO WAY they will be on that tour without JOEY

One way to bring back any kind of respecta back to Anthrax: get back Joey...

But we'd lose all respect for Joey in doing so.

Anthrax is a dead band.

Doesn't sing it perfect, but so what? Still does a good job. Singers rarely sing even close to pitch perfect live (a few exceptions, of course).

I said it once and I'll say it again.. Anthrax are dead.. this was their last chance to be a band again and they blew it. I have to agree with "Hawking" they should put Testament on the bill for the "Big Four" cause they are a real band and that would kick alot of ass.. I love John Bush but to me the voice was and always will be Joey. He did all the classic stuff with them and is still the one I think about when I think of Anthrax. They were just too different sounding with John. On the topic of this guy Dan. Dude if you can't even talk about what the fuck happened then you DO need to think about a career change cause this is obviously the high point of your career so far and you need to acknowledge it. Don't be a pud.. Tell everybody what you think instead of dodging the question there Palin.. If you were being a dick then say "I was being a dick" and being metal fans we may forgive you for that but just not saying anything doesn't win you any respect from us and I will also say that I agree with the other guys when I say that you can't count this guy as an ex-singer when the fucking album didn't even come out and he is already gone.. This stupid shit with ANthrax blows. I hope they finally say fuck it and retire cause I've been pissed at them for a long time and continue to be disappointed by this band..
