IRON MAIDEN's 'Ed Force One' Will Fly Again

According to U.K.'s Rock Radio, IRON MAIDEN manager Rod Smallwood has revealed the band is planning to tour on Ed Force One next year. MAIDEN became the first outfit in history to travel round the world in a customized jet during their "Somewhere Back in Time" tour, as detailed in award-winning movie "Flight 666". The Boeing 757 carried musicians, crew, gear and guests with singer Bruce Dickinson, a qualified airline pilot, at the controls. Speaking in the Iron Maiden Fan Club magazine, the manager said, "It took a long time to set up the last tour because of the plane. It had never been done before and we didn't know what we were letting ourselves in for. The idea came a couple of years before that and we got into it a year ahead of the game. "I'm starting to get my head round what we're going to do next summer. It hasn't been decided yet but we'll do something, so I've got to speak to promoters and agents. "Now we know the plane works, by Christmas we'll have the pattern set. We'll probably be going for the plane and getting that held for us. "But at the moment, the album's the key thing on the agenda. The guys will be getting together shortly and they're probably starting to get their heads round new ideas for songs individually. Some of them may meet up before we formally get together. "We'll spend a period writing, we'll take Christmas off and then we'll get into recording. We'll finish the album in time for it to be out next year and I'm just getting my head round what we want to do touring-wise. "We'll be doing some new places on the next tour. I won't tell you where they are - they're not finalized yet, but some work has been done. One place we can't play that we'd like to is Bolivia — the altitude is just too high for the type of physical performance the guys do. It's a shame."

Can't fucking wait.
I go into withdrawal if I don't see Maiden live for an extended period of time.
I may bitch about the predictability of their setlists, but that all goes out the window when I'm actually AT the gig...I'll sing Run to the Hills as loud as anyone in the arena, even if it's for the eighth or ninth time.

I hope they do select Euro and South America shows and then NYC, LA, and Toronto this summer. Kinda combine the planning of the SBIT 1st leg with a GMETID type setlist. And I hope they return to Costa Rica in '11 too, as I want to attend one SA show (coming from the USA) and Costa Rica seems like an awesome place to visit.

Come to TURKEY! We haven't seen the real Maiden. Everytime we look at the tour dates and we don't see Istanbul... It's like a nightmare repeating like forever!

Iron Maiden are the shit. Great band and they reinforce that you don't have to get complicated and overly technical to put out a nice melody/riff.
They do at times but you won't get a Dream Theater exhibtion of techinicality just for the sake of it. That shit gets on your nerves although it does have it's place in a song from time to time.
On the other hand, making an entire record of arpegios and runs just to show you can, is pretty lame. I do like Dream Theater but I wish they would cool it sometimes. Up the irons!!! \m/

has never been a part of the set list, even on the '83 World Piece tour! This song is to Piece of Mind what Rime of the Ancient Mariner is to Powerslave. Love to see Maiden play Still Life, Sun and Steel, hell the entire Piece of Mind record for that matter!

They did do To Tame A land in 1983. Maybe not all the time, but I have 2 different bootlegs copies of that tour & TO Tame A alnd is on both. Still Life was done in 83 & 88. You may have a point with Sun & Steel.
That being said, It would be great to see some of those old album cuts, however I would expect 5-6 new songs on the new tour, if the past several tours are any indication.

Flight 666 The Movie was the first Maiden dvd I liked. I guess Steve Harris had nothing to do with editing/production.
But as for music goes Maiden is the shit!

Maiden did ozzfest (I think it was) and they played nothing but songs from their 1st 4 lp.s. Wish you were there. I do!
Ohhhh if it wasn't for RUSH I could say,
"Maiden is my fav. band".
What can(ada) I do?
