VINNIE PAUL Says Half Of Next HELLYEAH Album Is Already Recorded
- Oct. 8, 2009
|
|
According to Minneapolis, Minnesota's 93X Rocks radio station, former PANTERA/ DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott has revealed that he and his HELLYEAH bandmates have already recorded about half of their next album. Vinnie promises that the work they've done so far on the record is "great," and says fans should expect an album by March or April, with a tour to follow. Paul did take a little time off recently, flying to Las Vegas to take in the "Slash & Friends" concert at The Mirage casino on Friday, October 2. Then earlier this week, he was scheduled to fly to Austin to prepare to open the latest in his Chicas Bonitas chain of strip clubs. On Friday, he'll head down to Cabo San Lucas to perform this weekend at Sammy Hagar's annual birthday party. As soon as that's done, he says it's back home to Dallas to get back to work on HELLYEAH. The hard rock "supergroup," which also features MUDVAYNE singer Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett, NOTHINGFACE axeman Tom Maxwell and DAMAGEPLAN bass player Bob "Zilla" Kakaha, are currently free agents after issuing their 2007 debut through Epic Records. Abbott explained to DallasObserver.com, "We had a one-disc deal with Epic, and they're practically begging us to come back. We sold nearly 500,000 records for them, which is practically unheard of these days. That's like going platinum 10 years ago." Abbott, who bounced back with HELLYEAH from the devastating 2004 murder of his brother and bandmate "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, said about the band, "The guys from HELLYEAH and the incredible music we've created have brought me back to what I love . . . The vibe is positive with a kick-your-ass attitude." HELLYEAH's self-titled debut has sold more than 350,000 copies since arriving in April 2007.

I'm surprised Vinny hasn't compared what they're working on to Vulgar Display of Power, but I'm sure it's coming. In due time. Hellyeah has got to be the biggest musical letdown in the past 10 years or so.

The man was devastated by the brutal murder of his brother, and all you cock suckers are mocking him? Grow a pair, you gutless pussies.
He's found a project that he has faith in, and is a fucking amazing drummer to boot. Good luck to Hellyeah, I'll be buying the album.

That doesn't have anything to do with the fact that his Hellyeah band fucking sucks.

What happened to Dimebag was horrible, but that doesn't change the fact that Hellyeah is a major letdown.

It's horrible his brother was murdered. But as Kingnothing wrote, that has nothing to do with how fucking bad this band is. Mudvayne are terrible, Nothingface is offensive it's so bad, Damage Plan was terrible. The only good band in this mix at all is Pantera.

the only reason this crap gets any attention is because Vinny was in Pantera. So, do we just say "yeah its ok" because his brother was murdered. Sorry but thats life, everything dies at some point. I feel sorry for him, but that doesnt make this band sound any better. Get a clue and stop settling for sub-mediocrity. He should do his brother some real justice and make some timeless non-forgettable epic fucking music regarless of genre. I think that if his brother could send him some message now, that it wouldnt be to never forgive phil. all these people will die, but the music will live on, at least make it something worthwhile.

I wasn't expecting Hellyeah to be Pantera part 2, but I thought there would be some good songs.
The problem with Vinny being in Hellyeah is that he is wasting his talent in a situation where he isn't able to shine. The other guys can't keep up with him and it's only holding him back. He needs to get out and find some new guys to play with. The dude is SICK on drums.

I liked Hellyeah's self titled release. Granted, it was repetitive and anticlimactic, but it had some good tracks. The title track was badass, and "Alcohaulin' Ass" ranked high on the UAkU scale. I am a big Nothingface fan, but I can't sit here and pine over a band that is never going to get along with one another and release anymore music.
That brings me to Vinnie. Fuck him. He gets more credit than is due for being a great drummer because he was a member of a legendary band. Don't get me wrong. He's good -- I certainly can't keep a backbeat for more than a couple measures -- but his reputation precedes his skill. Paul Mazurkiewicz and Tim Yeung can outplay him any day. I'm not going to sling any shit at him and say he's capitalizing on Dime's murder. My brother's still alive, and I don't know how I will handle his death if he passes before I do. What really pisses me off about Vinnie is his monthly letter answering column in Revolver magazine. No matter what the question, his answer is either "drink booze," "eat pussy," or "drink booze and eat pussy." I've read a letter once from a guy who genuinely wanted practice tips on how to improve at double-bass kicks. He asked if there were any drills he could do, etc. Vin's answer? "Eat lots of pussy!" What the fuck is that? There is the possibility that Vin isn't actually the one answering those letters, but if that's the case he should disconnect his name from such bullshit.
For the record, I didn't criticize or send the Grammar Schutzstaffel after anyone. Impressed?

Noyzrulz, uh, Hellyeah IS mainstream. the music they do is as generic groove scream/sing metal as it gets. and everyone bitching about his brother dying, blah blah blah, believe it or not it's OK to not like a band. i'm not going to say Hellyeah is good just because the guy's had a rough few years. he lost a loved one, that sucks, and i for one haven't made any jokes or inappropiate statements regarding that tragedy. i'm still allowed, though, to not like Hellyeah and to think it's a waste of the talent of the OTHER guys involved. i've never thought much of Vinnie as a drummer, he doesn't stand out as anything different or special from all the other metal drummers out there. i loved pantera, but it was Phil AND Dime BOTH that made that band, not Vinnie or even Rex. Phil and Dime could have made Pantera with any other drummer and bassist and it would have rocked, but Vinnie and Dime couldn't do it without Phil, and Vinnie definitely is nothing special without Dime. He's just a decent metal drummer, and his new band is boring. too bad. oh well. life goes on. tomorrow's another day. so what? who cares? what the fuck? big fucking deal. cheeseburger. flypaper. i like salsa. bippity bippity bippity bippity bippity bippity bippity bippity bippity bippity bippity bippity bippity

Let's reform Pantera and ask Zakk Wylde to join????
Not the same without Dime but at least you know Zakk would be honored if they came a knocking to do this!!!!!
Better yet, call Michael J. Fox and go back in time and stop that dirt bag from shooting Dime!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. Dime!!!!!!!

He's a hell of a great drummer, very creative when it comes to writing drumparts, flawless live, technically very proficient. It's just that Hellyeah are fucking terrible and I'm not disrespecting him at all, I would disrespect him if I was a hypocrite and I didn't speak my mind about Hellyeah and buy the new cd because I feel sorry for him. Now that would be truly disgusting. I'll buy the new cd if I like it, I bought the first one expecting good stuff and it was totally lame. Not gonna happen again.

haha. BUt seriously, Vinnie gets slagged for capitalizing on Dime's death, he's a sell-out, blah blah. We may not like the band, but maybe this gets his mind of his dead bro for a few hours a day. Nothing wrong with that
