ANVIL's Documentary Becomes First Screener Sent To Academy Members - Oct. 8, 2009
According to the Los Angeles Times, ANVIL's acclaimed documentary, "Anvil! The Story of Anvil", was the first official 2009 Academy viewing screener which was mailed Thursday to the nearly 6,000-person membership of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

Being the first screener sent out is a nice distinction, and giving voters plenty of time to see it has resulted in good nomination luck for the likes of "Little Miss Sunshine", "Junebug" and last year's "Frozen River", among others.

"ANVIL The Story of Anvil" is well deserving of at least being nominated for Best Documentary.

Their movie is the best Music Doc. in some time IMO. Glad they are getting all this great press and such.

Getting any kind of high profile award for this doc will be a travesty.

This is not an uplifting film. It shows addiction isn't just to drugs, it's also to a dead dream when unable to meet the standard.

I have had enough of Anvil, I'm glad they got some support because everyone feels sorry for them but they suck. Anvil gives metal heads a bad name. This band is the real life Spinal Tap but with even more retarted song lyrics

When I thought about it they weren't doing anything any different than most metal bands. there are plenty of middle aged dudes in bands that are still trying to make it big. None of these other guys, if you met them in person, would go on about the struggle for recognition and all that like Lips does. So in retrospect the movie is a pretty hammy.

But I still can't help but root for them. I mean even if they were the worst band out there, (and lets face it, Anvil's been ignored because their music is pretty awful), they are endearing people and it's nice to know that a struggling musician gets to feel a sense of accomplishment after all these years.

Enjoyed the movie, but their music sucks.

End of story.

you're out to lunch man. The Anvil story obviously shows it's not a dead dream. 2 years ago they were playing in clubs around Ontario/Quebec to 100-200 people with no chance of opening for ACDC, or a North American tour.. or any of the other shit they've accomplished over the past year.

Life is all about dreams. If you don't have dreams you've given up and chances are you're not that happy with life. The Anvil doodes are at a high in their life with their career - all down to 100% keeping a dream alive. Dreams are never dead unless you give up too soon.

So... What exactly is "retarted"? Because you must be RETARDED to spell it like it was a pastry.

So, someone mailed it to them? Wow, this is big news. Only thing worse then their music is this documentary. Think Spinal Tap for real. Yeah, real uncomfortable. What did Spinal Tap have that made it funny? Interesting characters and hilarious songs. Where does the Anvil doc fail? They actually wrote similar bad songs that were not written to be funny and the characters are uninteresting. There was even a point (I forget where) when they ripped off the volume to 11 thing. Calling the singer "Lips" does not make him interesting. Or talented. Lets move on. The Spinal Tap comparison is there because someone ripped off the idea and applied it to a real band.

You're wrong, maybe not now but back in the day they could wipe the floor with most and go toe to toe with anyone. Certainly better than the Dave Mundane band back then.

So many haters. Of course all of these people dissing on Anvil must be the hugest successes in rock music. If your opinion is so valid, where is your tour bus pulling into tonight? What kind of awesome praise do you receive from Slash, Lemmy, and Lars Ulrich? How many legendary producers agree to do your records when more lucrative things could be on the plate?
Oh wait, you are just some nobody with a computer and a chip on his shoulder. Fuck you. I'm gonna go listen to multiplatinum Beerdiablo record.

Anvil is the best metal band in the history of anything. Anvil is out there making it happen.. what are you doing? What's amazing is that they basically found a backdoor and walked right through it. By exploiting their weakness they are now touring and having fun.

It's fucking brilliant! It deserves to be a contender at the Academy Awards. All the best to ANVIL, in fact I'm booking the meet & greet tickets to go see them next year. They deserve to have success from this movie and the greater recognition it gives them.

To all those that hate on ANVIL... FUCK OFF!!! There are plenty of undeserving bands to go hate on. i.e.: The bullshit metalcore & deathcore groups out there today. ANVIL is not one of them. ANVIL is true metal in it's purest form.

I feel the reason they never had or will have success is very plain to hear
There music stinks...Obtuse lyrics & Music...They sound like a band of 12 year olds as if they stopped growing as musicians at that young age...I could see JR HIGH school Kids maybe listening to them but not beyond that age group..Nice Guys But Lacking Talent....Low Level songwriting ideas...
