KISS: Quality Multi-Camera Footage Of Last Night's Madison Square Garden Concert Posted Online
- Oct. 11, 2009
|
|
High-quality, multi-camera footage of KISS performing the song "Shout It Out Loud" last night (Saturday, October 10) at Madison Square Garden in New York City can be viewed below. According to Billboard.com, KISS' new album, "Sonic Boom", may shift somewhere between 160,000 and 180,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. If the set sells that much, it will also mark the group's best sales week since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. KISS has notched seven Top 10 albums. Its highest charting set is 1998's "Psycho Circus", which debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 110,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group's other high-charting sets include 1975's "Alive!" (No. 9), 1977's "Love Gun" (No. 4) and 1992's "Revenge" (No. 6). "Sonic Boom" features three discs — a collection of all new material, a re-recorded greatest hits CD and a live DVD shot in Argentina during the band's recent Kiss Alive 35 South American tour. This marks the band's first set off all new material in 11 years. KISS filmed footage for the "Modern Day Delilah" video during the band's private warm-up show at Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan on September 24. Over 1,500 lucky fans attended the event, where the group also previewed its new stage and taped two songs for an episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Photos below courtesy of KissOnline.com.

Did anyone actually think it would sell anywhere near AC/DC in the first week? Really? I think 160,000-180,000 is great considering thier track record the last 15 years. That is a pretty good first week for anyone in these days when hardly anyone sells that much, especially for a band that isn't relevant in current record sales. Good for them and perhaps it will continue to shift some copies during the tour.

THANK YOU! This is what Stiltskin fails to understand. I am quite sure no one (including KISS or Walmart) expected SB to go Gold in its first week of release. I'm sure everyone involved are quite happy and pleasantly surprised with the sales figures at this point. The AC/DC sales have NOTHING to with what is expected for KISS to sell.

This AC/DC KISS thing you guys have had going is getting old. Both cd's are good. Best albums both bands have put out in a while and comparing the two is pointless. Neither band made a living on great song craftsmanship. Both bands are good in their own way. Leave it at that.
The live clip posted above is one of the better ones I have seen. Paul actually sounds good on it because he's not trying to hit notes he can't reach anymore and I dig the new guitar Tommy has going. It's about time he busts out some gear that aren't Ace clones.

Enough with the AC/DC and KISS comparisons.
Bottom line: AC/DC are HUGE. Beyond HUGE. I've been a fan of theirs for over 14 years, and even I'm amazed by their jaw-dropping sales figures, especially considering how they've never pandered to radio, MTV, ballad-loving teen girls or "sound of the moment" hysteria.
KISS is also a huge band, but nowhere near AC/DC...never were, except for perhaps a brief period in the '70s.
So let's at least celebrate that two great old-school rock'n'roll bands are knocking all the shit off the top of the charts.
That's something that all B'mouthers should be able to agree on.

Don't get me wrong: I still enjoy bashing the hell out of Greed "Chaim Witz" $immons, and decrying the shameless use of Peter's and Ace's makeup by glorified scabs.
HOWEVER, if KISS has actually put out an album that's halfway decent (haven't checked out Sonic Boom in its entirety yet), I'll give them their props for it, regardless of how I feel about their grotesque business practices.

If you don't like Kiss, good for you, you're entitled to your opinion. But you can't deny- 1. Sonic Boom IS a VERY enjoyable rock cd (we NEED more of these nowadays). 2. They still got it live. 3. Tommy and Eric are no longer scabs. They are just wearing the makeup. They ARE part of Kiss and thus deserve their kudos.

"Enough with the AC/DC comparisons"
re: agreed. Its stupid, and yet Im compelled to offer my 2 cents...LMAO
" I'm amazed by their jaw-dropping sales figures, especially considering how they've never pandered to radio, MTV, ballad-loving teen girls or "sound of the moment" hysteria."
re: AC/DC will never need radio, MTV, teen girls, or sound of the moment hysteria because they have something better, what we call in america the redneck and its a nice chunk (not all for sure though )of the audience for them. There is the same kinda guys in every nation on the planet and wherever they are, these burly mens men love that band. There are some that started loving the band 30 years ago and they had sons who were manly men who love the band and thier sons will too.the numbers of them and the sales keep growing. Its a built in audience for as long as the band is playing or selling a new album. This is not any kinda knock on anyone at all, just a damn good point if you think about it.AC/DC only has to do what they have always done and make tons of cash.
So let's at least celebrate that two great old-school rock'n'roll bands are knocking all the shit off the top of the charts"
Re: Damn right.People are being so pissy about KISS album sales or the fact that they might be number one for whatever reason, and Im thinking why dont we just have a damn party because its not anyone from the disney channel, some hip hop crap, or one of those "new country" guys singing about fried chicken or bologna or some shit like it usually is

Been a fan since my teens and really impressed they are still rocking. The complainers, please wait and let us know what your doing for a living in your 60's. My guess is a mortgaged to the ass single wide in a trailer park in Florida. Kiss will probably still be rocking.

Couldn't care less about ACDC v Kiss...
Watching that clip though... 1. Is Eisen's guitar "plugged in"? 2. Does AceClone have a personality? 3. Where are all the backing singers that are clearly audible? 4. For 2009 that is a shit stage show, from a band who were pioneers. A big screen?? woohoo........ 5. I used to really like Kiss, but I always though Eisen was a twat. I still do.

It's a silly comparison, but I'll bite anyway...Kiss puts AC/DC to shame in every respect. Many more great songs, more varied styles (i.e 1974-1977), WAY better stage show, more fun, better vocals, better everything (Phil Rudd is great though). I saw ac/dc last year and Angus looked like he was ready to die, his school boy costume is so stale, every song sounds the godamn same. I respect them, but their boring one-trick-pony sound lacks imagination to the nth degree, they make Kiss sound like f'in Beethoven. However, they both stick to their guns and I respect that. There's far worse than both of these bands.
I'll take Led Zeppelin over anybody, but that's another story!

Yeah that's true, don't get me wrong, Kiss is stale in many ways, but to me, they still offer so much more fun. I saw them Friday night and they still seriously put out for 60 years old, there's no denying their live show. And I was ready to hate on Sonic Boom myself, but it's got 4-5 catchy rockers, I was pleasantly surprised.

So people might actually buy the CD instead of downloading it via torrents. If more bands did this (dvd of live performance - none of the BS making of crap), a lot more sales would 'probably' be registered.

you continue to show your lack of comprehension on this site.
"Back In Black is the only thing that they have ever put out that's worth anything." I hope you are joking. If not you really have no clue. Like AC/DC or not they have many great albums.
Let's also not forget that every time KISS has stepped out of their comfort zone it's a let down to the majority of fans. KISS is at it's best when they are a one trick pony too. There are a few KISS songs here and there that are not typical KISS songs that attract and command attention but for the most part the same ol' same ol' is what works for KISS and the fans.

No need to apologize, you have your beliefs and I have mine. I like Kiss and I enjoy SB but I think its silly to compare the two bands. Personally I only like 2 albums that ACDC has put out and I think the rest of their stuff is "meh". That does not mean that others cant enjoy them, I just don't see what the big deal about ACDC is. As a musician I like a lot of different types of music and like when bands experiment. Sometimes it turns out good and sometimes it turns out bad. Judas Priest's (my fav band) Turbos comes to mind when I say it does not turn out good. The Elder by Kiss is an album that most Kiss fans Hate but I enjoy it quite a lot and have listened to it many times. Lick It Up is an album that many Kiss fans enjoy and while I like a couple of songs on it for the most part I don't like it. We all have different tastes and different feelings about Kiss members wearing the original outfits. I myself think its dumb but it doesn't make me hate them or call them names. Most people just need to grow up and stop having heroes. I stopped having heroes years ago when I turned 16.

Just because album sales are good does not mean that the people who bought it actually likes it. That's a huge misconception amoung the posters on this site. I personally like Dynasty but hate Unmasked. The only tracks on Unmasked I like are the Ace tunes. That album is horrid. The Elder is one I'd like to forget. I only like two tracks off that album. KISS is just not a concept band. Period. They made a mistake there. More power to anyone who likes that album but I think people who say that are really reaching there.
@ Rac1965 I know Creatures is a popular album and I like parts of it but the overall tone of that album is too dark for me. I don't like Lick It Up At all. Not one bit.

See we all have different tastes. I absolutely love Creatures Of The Night because of its heavy, dark sound and atmosphere. Also just because I like The Elder doesn't mean you have to and I don't think I am reaching for liking it. Again we all have different likes and dislikes. Take a band like Slayer, they have millions of fans. Personally I cant stand them at all. Sloppy, shitty guitar work and a horrible vocalist that screams off key. But just because I don't like Slayer doesn't mean that anyone who does is reaching in my opinion.
