OZZY OSBOURNE On BLACK SABBATH Reunion: 'I Never Say Never Anymore. Just Not Right Now.' - Oct. 12, 2009
U.K.'s Birmingham Post recently conducted an interview with legendary heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

On being a technophobe who can't even send an email:

"I don't even know how to turn a computer on. I dictate my e-mails and my assistant Tony loads songs onto my iPod.

"I know how to turn on the iPod, adjust the volume and sort out what I want on it but the rest of it, I'm lost. And they've all got iPhones now. I can't even make a call on one of those. I touch the screen and something else happens!"

On how, after spending the best part of 40 years on drugs and drink, the alcohol and pharmaceuticals began to take their toll:

"I had to come to a decision — do I want to kill myself with drugs and alcohol?

"In the old days, whenever I stopped boozing, I always used to think about the good times I was missing. Now all I think about is how the good times always turned bad.

"I couldn't tell you how much a pint of beer costs now, and I don't want to know. Which is amazing, considering how much my life used to revolve around the pub. I just ain't interested anymore."

On how the book "I Am Ozzy" came about:

"I didn't actually put pen to paper, I got someone (writer Chris Ayres) to ask me questions — what I remember about my childhood, and whatever.

"He would zone in on a specific thing that I was saying and he'd ask me to elaborate on it. Once it started coming out it was quite easy. At the end of the day, it only took about six weeks. It seemed to fly by."

On the possibility of a second volume being released in the future:

"I'd like to do something more in-depth later on,. How can you put my life in 400 pages? I've had such an amazing existence over the years.

"I remember saying to Chris, 'Have you got enough?' He said, ‘I've got more than enough, there's a lot of stuff I haven't got room to put in so I'm going to save it for another day.'

"Once I'm talking, it flies out of me."

On going back to Birmingham for last week's book signing where he took to opportunity to look again around his old house and school, Prince Albert, in Albert Road, and Winson Green Prison where he served three months for robbing Sarah Clarke's, a clothes shop in Aston:

"My son, Jack, is doing a documentary film on me and my life. I went down to my old house — it's still there but it's changed so much. The guy who owns it now has done a great job renovating it. It's nothing like it used to be."

On the fact that he has not given up on another BLACK SABBATH reunion despite on-going legal proceedings between him and guitarist Tony Iommi over the use of the band's name:

"With BLACK SABBATH, there's always some litigation going on. We're always having a go at each other, it's like being married, I suppose.

"As for getting back with the band, I never say never anymore. Just not right now. If something came up and it was worth doing it'd be stupid not to do it."

...are all getting old (everyone does) but I'd still like to see the original line-up before they quit. Didn't have the chance so far. Say what you want about Ozzy, I don't care. :D The original four guys will always be my heroes. :P

They did get their asses in the game with someone by the name of Ronnie James Dio. Ozzy missed the Sabbath Short Bus and now he wants to catch up to it and cash in...

Ozzy knows people want him to be a character - so he acts stupid. He was very much into technology on the Osbournes. Quite a calculating creature really.

P.S would hate to hear a new Sabbath album with him - his previous work with them is sacred but anything new would be crap and every fan knows that deep down.
The other three wouldn't be the problem.

Sabbath reunion? Didn't that already happen several times? We're talking about a band whose best material was almost 40 years ago. This is why I have so much respect for Ritchie Blackmore. He realized that he got old and decided to hang it up. Watching Ozzy now is kind of like watching Ric Flair. Yeah, they were the best when I was I kid, but they're old sad and broken down. I run into Ric every now and again. He can't even stand up straight anymore! But he still thinks he's the Nature Boy! Ozzy, we love you. You were the best, but you got old. Retire please.

Sharon claimed in a previous interview that Ozzy wrote the book. What a liar she is:
"I didn't actually put pen to paper, I got someone (writer Chris Ayres) to ask me questions — what I remember about my childhood, and whatever".

We all know it, but how can she think no one will know is beyond me...

I just saw Black Sabbath with Dio and it was FAR better than any of the times I saw the original lineup. Ozzy's voice is shot and Bill Ward aint the drummer he used to be. Plus in my opinion Sabbath went downhill with Ozzy after the Volume IV album. I've always felt that the Dio-Sab never got the regonition that they deserved. Plus the material that they did with Ian Gillian and Tony Martin is cool also.

That already went down and it was awesome while it lasted.

I absolutely DO NOT want to hear a new Sabbath record with Ozz singing. He's just bloody terrible now.

The H&H release was brilliant. Lets' leave it at that.

"ipods and iphones are gay." Could be the dumbest quote of the day.

If you didn't see them back on their reunion tour or on the several Ozzfest bills that they played on then you probably missed your chance(s). I think that window closed.

Heaven & Hell is what it's all about. Ozzy is a washed up dumb ass, who has fucked over most of those whom he has worked with. Plus he can't perform for shit, Dio is 10x better. BTW this is coming from a 24 year old. I never had the chance to see Ozzy era Sabbath, and honestly I couldn't care less anymore because I know it will disappoint. I saw H&H, and they were AMAZING. I could die a happy man.

Black Sabbath is my favorite band ever, and the last thing I want is a reunion with this talentless hack. He's been dead from the neck up for decades now, he could only bring the band down (as he did for those horrible Ozzfest appearances) etc.

Shozzy, just go away.

Ozzy was a bad vocalist who fit Sabbath's sound in the 70's. Sabbath's sound has evolved since then, and Ozzy's gotten even worse with age.

No thanks, Ozzy, stick with your solo crap, Heaven and Hell will be around for a while.

Or, Sharon could break up H&H by planting BS reunion rumors all over the place to piss off Dio, but if it got to that point, I'd rather see Tony Martin come back than Ozzy.

Didn't she just recently say that Ozzy wrote the book using pencil and paper himself?!! Now he says "I didn't actually put pen to paper, I got someone (writer Chris Ayres) to ask me questions — what I remember about my childhood, and whatever."

She will say anything practically to try and make him look cool but it backfires. I'm very leery of this book. Everything I want to know about Sabbath and Ozzy I have in other books already, like SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH - THE BATTLE FOR BLACK SABBATH, and other awesome books. Why would I want to trust Ozzy's memory or Sharon's conniving?

Maybe some day if it comes out in paperback. But I have no interest in paying hardback prices...

McMan,

There are certainly comparisons between Flair and Ozzy but unlike Ozzy (as far as I know, anyway) Flair could put in a memorable performance every once in a while the last few years (and certainly his last match, although his ones with Hogan in that Australian tour this year will certainly be average at very best). But, unlike Flair, Ozzy still has all the money in the world. Flair even had to give up his famous NWA World Heavyweight gold belt as collateral to Highspots in order to get a huge loan from them. It wasnt repaid so the belt will now be sold. Such a shame.

totally....I think if Ozzy got rights to the Sabbath Catalogue, he'd end up dubbing in some new shiete over the old, as Sharon would say, "get a fresh take"....for some dope-headed reason, ozz sanctioned this for Diary of a Madman, Blizzard and Bark at the Moon... How does this guy have any validity shredding his own material, which probably wasn't?
Bob Daisley was instrumental in both writing with Randy on the first two albums and Bark at the Moon with Jake...since then Ozzy has sucked ass on his own...

I appreciate the early sabbath, loved all the earlier material especially Sabotage, Vol 4, Never Say Die... But life after Ozz with Dio on Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules was even better.

Tony, Geezer, Bill, guard the Sabbath estate with all your power and keep it out of the hands of Sharon and Ozzy.

....I saw Sabbath during the Born Again tour and as good a vocalist as Ian Gillan was,he murdered the old Sab tunes and they played Digital Bitch(horrible) but not Trashed...maybe that's why a riot broke out in the metro after the show.
Less than a year later I saw Ozzy(Bark At The Moon tour)..he was fat and drunk and mumbled alot of the lyrics from songs he's performed a million times,I guess it was the state of his inebriation, and far too much Don Airey-thank you.
I was too young to see Sabbath when they were the drugged out kings of stoner rock and that's too bad.You can't go back home and a 'Reunion' concert is just a half-hearted cash grab.
