GOD FORBID Guitarist Comments On Dallas Cup-Throwing Incident - Oct. 12, 2009
GOD FORBID guitarist Doc Coyle has commented on the September 29, 2009 incident when he was hit in the face with a liquid-filled cup during his stint as the fill-in guitarist for LAMB OF GOD while supporting METALLICA in Dallas, Texas.

In a statement released to MetalSucks, Doc says, "I'm sure many of you have seen the video of me getting pegged on stage while I was on METALLICA tour filling in for Mark [Morton] from LAMB OF GOD. Although 95% of the comments were really supportive, I just wanted to clarify a few things about the incident.

"First off, it was a beer, not a water. A big ol' tall boy plastic cup of beer, and whoever threw it must have been a quarterback, because it was full and hit me square in the eye at full steam. It felt like I got sucker-punched. I had a mark by my cheek bone and it was swollen all night. I'm surprised I didn't have a black eye.

"The way it hit me is probably the reason why I reacted the way I did. I'm no tough guy, but I wasn't really thinking; I just reacted.

"I really don't know what I would've done if anyone would've have owned up to throwing it, but I have no clue if I would've hit the person. I can say that I'm not violent at all, and don't think violence is a productive way to solve problems.

"I'm glad nothing came of it, but obviously the person was pretty cowardly to throw it and not own up to it.

"Anyway, shit happens. I just think it's kind of funny how it spread on the Internet. Beer in the face and all, it was still more than an honor to play with LAMB OF GOD and open for METALLICA."

Video footage of the above-mentioned incident can be viewed below. In the top clip, Doc can be seen setting his guitar down and going down to the barricade to confront the person who threw the cup. LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe then jumps down to stop Doc from going into the crowd.

When asked about GOD FORBID's plans for the future, Coyle recently told D-Lux Denim Brand, "We're currently trying to lock down our headlining U.S. tour, which I think is gonna [happen in] November [and maybe going into] December a little bit. So we should have that in the works in the next few weeks. And we'll probably go back to Europe next year for another tour. And we'll probably be looking for a new record label and trying to figure out what the future's really gonna hold. We don't wanna tour too much on a record that's not really supported by the record label. So, I think, [we'll] do one or two more tours, then kind of start thinking about the future."

GOD FORBID's new album, "Earthsblood", sold around 5,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan, to land at position No. 110 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD debuted at No. 2 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

GOD FORBID's previous album, "IV: Constitution of Treason", entered The Billboard 200 chart at No. 119 in September 2005 after shifting 8,300 units.

In the clip below, the cup-throwing incident can be seen at the 4:22 mark.

In the clip below, the cup-throwing incident occurs at the 4:33 mark.

"in the top clip, Doc can be seen setting his guitar down..."

He does not "set it down", but basically drops it. And for that he should have been relieved of said guitar. I fucking detest anyone who treats a guitar like shit. I think it's a shitty move to throw stuff at a performer, but it's no excuse to drop your ax on it's head.

pigchop....good to see someone shares my views on the treatment of quality instruments. Fuck...I can't even afford a First Act at the moment and would likely kill a motherfucker to have his axe.

As long as they're not in breach of contract for ending their set early, good for them.

Fuck that crowd. If anything, maybe the guy who threw the beer will get his ass kicked for making Lamb of God cut their set short.

Don't throw shit on stage, dumbasses. While you think you may got balls of steel, there might be a bunch of kids that had to save money for a long time to be able to see their favorite bands.

If you throw shit at the stage, YOU should get thrown at the stage.

pigchop and numberofthebeef; who the hell do you guys think you are? People for the Ethical Treatment of Guitars? The guy just had a beer thrown at his face while playing, ruining it for the remaining people in attendance, if he wanted to take that guitar and use it to smash the guy's face he had every right to do so!

It's funny how the universe works. He got hit in Dallas, same name as his brother and former GFB guitarist who recently left the band.

There is always one idiot at every show. Just gotta ruin it for the rest of us who pay for a ticket to see them bands we like. That fan was lucky that the God Forbid dude didn't jump in the crowd and pull a Axl Rose on him. Like axl did to that fan back in '92 with the camera.

He's a cool dude, and the God Forbid guys are good guys. Probably some dumb ass red neck that threw the beer at him. I mean why would he throw the beer at someone he doesn't know? This happens in Dallas? Cowgirl country? Doc Coyle is from right here in Central NJ, GIANTS territory? Football envy perhaps?

Anyway, anyone who does that stuff is nothing but a pussy, and would never face someone one on one, in a fair fight. Probably the type to sucker punch and run.

Doesn't look like the guy even tried to throw it at him. Not that it should have been there, but he kinda walked into it.

Wow. i finally took time to see the incident. Sucks for Doc, he doesn't deserve shit like that.

If that was Phil Anselmo though, he'll know exactly how to embarrass the fuck out of the culprit and get that ass out of the show though. The video clip from Down's Corpus Christi show is legendary.
