KORN Frontman Says New Album Is 'Really Like The Old-School Stuff'
- Oct. 13, 2009
|
|
KORN frontman Jonathan Davis has told AOL's Noisecreep that the band's forthcoming follow-up to 2007's untitled effort is something of an unintended return to the group's roots, and not a concept, as initially planned. "It's really like the old-school stuff ... like the first two records," Davis tells Noisecreep. "It's just going back to our roots, working with [producer] Ross [ Robinson, who helmed the band's first two albums, 1994's 'Korn' and 1996's 'Life is Peachy']... it's just been amazing, and it sounds like nothing we've ever done. It's more in the vein of the first two records, and we're really excited about it. And working with Ross, it just sort of evolved out of us, naturally. He's got us going back to the old school-style of how we were writing, and how we all just sat in a room together and did all this stuff so. We're excited ... it's just how it's been taking shape." Regarding the new album's lyrical concept — which Davis previously identified as the five symbols he feels will be the downfall of man: drugs, religion, power, money and time — the frontman said, "It's turning into something else. I was going for that, and I was writing lyrics and stuff around that vibe. And other stuff started coming out, and I can't control what's coming out on my inside. So, the music's ... it always changes. I can start out with a plan, but it's just turning into different stuff. We've got 13 or 14 songs, and the guys are taking turns doing bass and guitars. The drums are all recorded. It's our most diverse record, and I think it's going to make all of our fans happy, and they'll all be very surprised."

All Korn sucks. Learn to play your guitars, assclowns. My favorite part of the interview: "it's really like the first two records...it sounds like nothing we've ever done."

Jon in no way says it sounds like the first two records, he says it's in the same vein. It FEELS the same, but it has a different sound to it. It was plainly obvious to me.
To all the bashers: Grow up. Korn is a good band. Sure, they've slipped up in recent years (Untitled SUCKED) but I still have faith, and I think the new album will probably turn out to be pretty good. Korn fits neatly on my iPod with my collection of Slayer and Amon Amarth albums. Isn't it about time we gave this band some respect? They kept heavy music alive in the mainstream while pop acts and boy bands ruled MTV. Korn and Pantera are the two bands that define 90's metal.

Listen to all you pair of girls testicles, Korn were best back in the early days, its unfortunite that they sold out some where in the middle, but from, Take a look in the mirror they really seem to be heading back to there TRUE roots and what there best at. Your probably from the middle era which is the little kiddies area and use the Korn label to make them look like they know metal and are in with "it", hear this!! GO FUCK OFF AND DIE IN PAIN, cause if they do go back to sounding like there old shite and with the change in line up, all hail, its been way to long, I will anticipate the new shite...

if it's produced by Ross Robinson, it's at least a start at getting good Korn back. So I'll be listening to this with open ears. If it sucks, nothing can save them.

they have the best drummer in rock n roll today, very underrated, and very much a man of the people...
Check out the Hideous Sun Demons, an instrumental cd recorded with some of his bandmates from the David Lee Roth band. He was Dave's drummer from 1999 until the VH reunion, then the shortlived Army Of Anyone project, then Korn.

Ray Luzier is a damn good drummer.
They also don't say it is the heaviest old school album for every release. I think they only claimed that for untouchables and take a look in the mirror. Agreed that neither of those were though.
I really look forward to this new one though with Ross being on board.

Oh, good luck being "really like the old-school stuff" without Head-case and Silveria. Oh yeah, that's right, they had nothing to do with the first couple of albums. Convenient, isn't it?

Don't bands realize when they state that their new stuff sounds like their old stuff, that they are setting their fans up for a huge disappointment. There have been a few, very few, exceptions to this, but most bands that say this are just duping the fans they've lost into spending money again on a band they no longer believe in. It's cool to talk about the vibe of a new UNRELEASED album, but it's irresponsible to make that kind of claim when there's nobody from the outside around to either cooborate or call bullshit. Musicians lose (or lose more) credibility when they say things like this unless they can back it up. I understand they're in the business of SELLING as many albums as they can, but I think this tactic has gotten to be an out-of-hand dirty ploy for the most part. I'll give it a listen through Myspace or something, but I will NOT buy this unless I know it's worth it. I got fucked on the last 2 Korn albums, it won't happen again.

no mater what the fuck you might think of their music or them personally they were at one time a vital force in contempary mainstream hard rock/metal introducing heavy music to younger people in the mid 1990`s...those 1st two albums were brutal and get my respect. good band good songs good live. i was lucky i saw them live at their peak in 1998 with rob zombie !!

"Sounds like our first two albums..." Is this a Korn article or a Fear Factory article? Whenever bands lose credibility with their fan base, they claim their upcoming album will be true to their roots. In both cases I cite, the bands aren't using the original members, meaning the formula will be different, meaning the music will be different - not the same, probably not even similar. I'll listen to both, but I doubt I'll buy either.

The Korn fanboys think that it's kids who are hating on Korn, whereas I think only a musicially uninformed child could actually listen to this garbage. And hey, MLOC, you suck at life. If anybody ever uses any point in Korn's career to pretend they know even the slightest thing about true metal, they know nothing of true metal. Go get yourself a Nevermore album and check out real musicians and an amazing singer.
