DAVE MUSTAINE Says He Plans To Add METALLICA's 'No Life 'Til Leather' Demo To 'Megadeth Radio' - Oct. 24, 2009
MEGADETH's "predictably unpredictable" Artist Personal Experience radio station, "Megadeth Radio", is available for streaming using the widget below.

MEGADETH guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine has complete creative control in the programming of his 24-hour channel, which features interviews, news, personal commentary, and playlists of his favorite music.

According to LiveDaily, a sampling of "Megadeth Radio" revealed cuts from MEGADETH, as well as a varied mix of tunes heavy on classic rock and metal, including vintage cuts from METALLICA, KISS, QUEEN, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, ALICE IN CHAINS, DIO, THE ROLLING STONES and AC/DC. Other tracks included live versions of MEGADETH's "Symphony of Destruction" and FAITH NO MORE's "Epic", as well as studio cuts from LAMB OF GOD and MACHINE HEAD.

Between the musical selections, Mustaine can be heard talking about a variety of topics, including his band's influences, the subject matter for their songs, and his soon-to-open San Diego guitar/music school, where he plans to teach underprivileged youths.

In a brand new update on the official MEGADETH forum, Mustaine writes, "I am talking to the station guys for my show today and next week we'll be making some slight adjustments.

"I will check out what songs were added, and in many bands' cases, we got it right. Sometimes there are going to be stinkers, and I will make adjustments as I go. Remember, though, we are playing zingers too, and that means that just because a song is here, I don't necessarily like it — it just had something to do with my life. Example: 'I Was Made For Loving You' [by] KISS is played because that was the last song I heard by KISS as a fan. After that one, I quit them, which helped me understand the fan backlash from Bud Prager's failed attempt to break us with 'Crush 'Em'.

"I am constantly considering new additions of the music from my life as I hear it or someone suggests it. I am not sure why BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE was in there; it must have been a song that I tried to recall and got it wrong, although I still think that band has talent. I will also look at some other genres, because I have eclectic taste in music, but as far as anything that is blatantly against my moral fiber, you can fergit it! I am also changing 'Hair Of The Dog' [by] NAZARETH, so that it will always be NAZARETH and no covers of that one. No one else has the right to sing those lines. They are one of the credos I lived by for so many years and to hear someone else, anybody else sing it is just not right.

"I am going to add the entire record 'No Life To Leather' [sic] [referring to METALLICA's widely circulated 'No Life 'til Leather' demo tape featuring Mustaine on lead guitar] and have some fun with the comparisons between me and Kirk [Hammett, current METALLICA guitarist], but let's keep it fun and fair. I wouldn't even play them if I had a problem still. This is a new opportunity for us all to revolt against regular radio and together we are going to play hard and heavy music that we like, because I say so!

"I am glad that you are enjoying Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, and I can't wait to spring some more cultural stuff. Bob Dylan slipped through and will be removed, as well as a couple others that I notice slipped in.

"This is going to be such a cool and educating experience for you all, and I am so glad that you are enjoying my twisted sense of humor with the ads in between like, 'We go to eleven' and then play Elton John.

"Since I picked the songs for now, I have several new bands that I am going to check out and pick some songs from. As you can imagine, there are just too many bands, and just because you like them, doesn't mean I do. Megadeth Radio is for the whole band, but I am the only one doing it as of yet. So, I will check into RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, DEEP PURPLE, definately PANTERA, SYMPHONY X, RAMMSTEIN, and VIO-LENCE. I dunno why there is two versions of 'School's Out'ALICE COOPER and someone. I also got the 'Endgame' requests and the picture glitch, I got some messages at TheLiveLine [a service launched by Mustaine that enables musicians to connect to their audience over the phone] about this, and when you call the studio number it goes to the studio, so if you want to talk to me directly, call my TheLiveLine number after you leave a message at the studio. I am also thinking about doing something cool on the weekends where we slam you with entire sides of classic albums — not the whole thing, because even classic records get hard to sit through. But you'll get the jest. The decision to beep out songs is not mine.

"I was thinking of my new slogan, 'Megadeth Radio - where you'll neeeeeeeever hear NICKLEBACK!'"

Ha. Metallica sucks nut. I'm not a big fan of Dave's gigantic, suffocating ego, but Megadeth does have some decent songs and have usually been consistant in the recordings (and haven't been swayed with any of the small rock movements that die out).

As for the radio podcast, that's neat. Good for him. Personally, I like being my own DJ and listening to music that I WANT to listen to all day long, instead of someone deciding that for me. It is interesting to see what kind of music Dave thinks is good.

I guess I'll check out his radio station the next time I'm really bored and want to kill myself... hopefully his music choices won't put me over the edge... ugh oh. lol.

Alright, I've been reading the comments to anything that has been posted about Megadeth for months now, and the one thing I'm sick of is not Dave, but the absolute lack of respect that he gets from both the media and the fuckheads on this site. It's shameful. You people who claim to be "metal" fans, who most likely became supposed metal fans during the "nu-metal" movement should have more respect for this guy. He is the founding father of thrash, and the metal community should be in great debt to him. His skills as a guitar player has been amazing since Killing is My Business...he wipes the floor with both James and Kirk.

Now I love Metallica just as much as the next "true" metal fan, but in all honesty they didn't kick him out because of drinking. Seriously, drinking? How did Metallica get the name Alcoholica again??? The only reason they booted him was because Dave was just too advanced for James to keep up with, and they knew that there was no way that they could have kept Dave at bay over creative control. That's why, no other reason. I mean, look at kirk, he probably has to ask permission to take a leak around them.
There is just no stifling Dave Mustaine.

So have some fucking respect for Dave. I know no other musician at his level of expertise that communicates with his fans better. He's always trying to give what people want. And lets face it, everyone wanted him to speak his mind over Metallica, and you guys are assholes for not admitting that you enjoy it. If you didn't, you haters wouldn't be on this site reading it every single time. I admit Dave has tripped over his words, but all he is trying to do is please the fans, but he gets frustrated in the process because no one gives a chance to speak. And Dave is fucking wicked to hear talk about issues. He's ballsy, and doesn't give a fuck if we agree or not, especially with political issues. Hands up, how many in here have sang along to Peace Sells?????? I love his lyrics, there honest and they spare no one.

Without Dave, we wouldn't have a fraction of what's out there today in the metal world. And even more so, with out Dave we probably wouldn't have Metallica either. Dave set the tone and introduced to James and Lars thrash while they were trying to bang the medium paced NWOBHM tunes. No one writes like Dave, he's a mastermind at his craft.

SO HAVE SOME FUCKING RESPECT.

Here's the way I see it:

1. Mustaine, Hetfield AND Ulrich all have controlling, driven, Type-A personalities...admirable qualities for a SINGLE band leader, not so good when they're all in one band trying to steer the ship. That's a recipe for dysfunction and breakup.

Metallica has had a hard enough time over the years trying to survive the dueling egos of James and Lars. No way in hell Metallica could've survived a THIRD guy like Dave trying to control the band.

2. Yeah, everyone in Metallica was psychotic drinkers, but Dave was the only one who got mean, nasty and violent when he was drunk.

That may or not be true, as only the guys in Metallica have said this, but if it was true, then how could they deal with a guy like that? It's obvious Dave is mentally unstable to begin with...alcohol would only take it to the next level.

3. As far as guitar players...no contest. Dave is way more advanced than Kirk. That's not the issue...Kirk is the passive personality that Metallica needed. He shows up, plays, doesn't argue, a loyal soldier.

Seem to have forgotten? No, you're simply another ignorant clown that doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.

On NO LIFE 'Til LEATHER, Dave Mustaine has riffs in:

2. The Mechanix (with his godawful lyrics)
5. Metal Militia
6. Jump in the Fire
7. Phantom Lord

There's thing most bands do call collaboration, you know, when a couple of diffrent dudes contribute riffs, melodies and sometimes beats to make a song. It's pretty nifty and fun, I've done in dozens of times myself over the last 20 years. Apparently Dave had the most fun of his life doing it 27 years ago.

If it was so unpleasant and experience, or if he was so ripped off as he claimed, 1.) there would have been a lawsuite; 2.) he wouldn't be so eager and willing to revisit it all over and over and over and over and over and over again. But he can't let it go because it was the time of his life.

Also, mister "He wrote most of the songs", why was The Mechanix, the worst of that batch, the only one Dave re-recorded with Megadeth? The only other thing he's recycled from then is a riff from "Phantom Lord" that he put into "This Was My Life".

Hmm.

Nicely put.

I agree with what you said about Kirk. And I think that's the only way Metallica could progress. James, Lars, and Dave are control freaks. They knew it then, and since James and Lars were probably closer as friends, Dave got the axe. But I honestly believe that James could not keep up comfortably with Dave's writing, especially while trying to sing.

The song "killing is my business" is amazingly intricate for 85', way ahead of its time. I consider myself a good guitar player, and that song always frustrates me to play. I don't see how James could have kept up with that style. James had to do the riff writing to his ability for him to remain in the band.

Anyway, just wishing people would pay respect to Dave, I couldn't imagine my metal collection without at least the first 6 Megadeth albums. They're metal at its absolute finest.

So more "advanced", yet Kirk's solos on the songs Dave played and co-wrote on are far superior to Dave's solos.

And then how do you account for the awesome riffs Kirk has written compared to some Dave's. There's this song called "Master of Puppets" that has some Hammett riffs that blows away any of Dave's riffs aside from maybe "Holy Wars...the Punishment Due".

Hmm. How about his sense of melody compared to Dave. Every heard the melodies and leads in songs like "Fade to Black", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", "Disposable Heroes", "Damage Inc.", "The Unforgiven", "Creeping Death", all songs that Hammett has credit on. No to mention all the stuff he did on Loads (yeah, not so popular) and Death Magnetic.

Let's give credit where credit is due. If cyrbaby Mustaine gets so applauded for his riff contribution in 6 Metallica (all but two lacked any real sense of melody prior to Burton & Hammett's involvment), then Kirk should get his due applause as well.

Heh. Little know fact is that Exodus was started by a guy name Kirk Hammett (along with Gary Holt & Tom Hunting) A WHOLE YEAR BEFORE Lars even met James to form Metallica. Eveyone wants to try to strip Kirk of his 'metalness' (whatever the fuck that is), but the dude is responsible for TWO original thrash bands. He put three formative years into Exodus before joining Metallica.

Fact. Everyone has these opinions, but not many are coming with facts. That's a lot harder to do when people are acting like emotional fanboys and nuthuggers.

Droogies!

This is not really necessary anymore. It was said a long time ago, I am a different person now, and he may have gotten a lot better by now.

The bottom line is that even if I felt that way, I would have to be really pissed to say something like that (and I was), but since I am feeling such peace and freedom right now, I really don't feel like saying anything to hurt anyone, anymore.

I got a guitar to beat the hell out of and that is good enough for now. :-)

To anyone that this may have hurt or offended, watch it again, hahaha! But seriously, if I have hurt or offended anyone, I apologize. I am not apologizing for 'what' I have said, I am apologizing for 'why' I said it. I felt hurt and I felt offended, and I just wanted Kirk to feel as bad as I did, but thankfully, he was able to sidestep the foray. I know I hurt him, but I have zero reason to keep doing this, and even less desire to hurt him with my words or actions ever again.

Please don't promote the 'Naughty Dave' in this light. He is still around here and still a very big part of me, but I try to keep him bottled up until the show tape starts. Letting 'Naughty Dave' talk without a guitar or a band is very dangerous. It only keeps the feud going, and with these type of decisions to post things like this, THINGS THAT HAVE NO REAL REASON TO BE HERE AT THE SITE, other than to start some controversial actions, you just may have denied us all a chance at seeing the Big Four in action.
