ANTHRAX Guitarist: 'It Looks Like JOHN BUSH's Gonna Do The Vocals' On New Album - Oct. 25, 2009
ANTHRAX guitarist Rob Caggiano was interviewed on last night's (Saturday, October 24) edition of the "Maximum Threshold" show. The entire program can now be streamed using the audio player below. (Note: The Caggiano interview begins around the one-hour, 28-minute mark.)

Regarding ANTHRAX's current status, Caggiano said, "We just got back from Japan. We played the Loud Park festival in Tokyo. That was pretty killer.

"We're just kind of taking it easy right now, getting ready to finish the new ANTHRAX record — getting things rolling with that. . . I'm producing and engineering the whole thing.

"I'm sure you guys know the whole story, but the record's pretty much... I mean, it was done... [laughs] and now, it's not confirmed or anything yet — it's unofficial — but it looks like John Bush's [ANTHRAX's singer from 1992 to 2005] gonna do the vocals on it. So we're all kind of keeping our fingers crossed and hopefully it's gonna go great. The record rules; we're all really, really excited about it."

On ANTHRAX's split with singer Dan Nelson, who laid down the vocals on the band's new CD before parting ways with the group in July:

"I really don't wanna go too much into that whole thing, because it's just gonna get weird. But Dan's a good guy, and he's a great, great singer — he sounds amazing. It just didn't work out. It's really as simple as that. We all tried this thing, this direction, and it just wasn't working. But none of that stuff really matters. I mean, we're all kind of looking to the future at this point. And it feels really good. I mean, the last few shows we did were awesome; we're all really, really excited."

On ANTHRAX's forthcoming album:

"I think the fans are really gonna dig this new record, when it's finally done. [laughs] It's kind of a... definitely a progression from the last album. There's definitely a few nods to the old-school stuff as well. It's just all around a really, really, really strong record."

ANTHRAX (featuring John Bush) is confirmed for the 2010 edition of Australia's Soundwave Festival, which will kick off on February 20 in Brisbane.

The dates are as follows:

Feb. 20 - Brisbane, AUS - RNA Showgrounds
Feb. 21 - Sydney, AUS - Eastern Creek Raceway
Feb. 26 - Melbourne, AUS - Melbourne Showgrounds
Feb. 27 - Adelaide, AUS - Bonython Park
Mar. 01 - Perth, AUS - Bassendean Oval

As a result of ANTHRAX's split with Nelson, the band canceled 10 European shows and pulled out of a U.S. tour with SLIPKNOT which was scheduled to take place in August and September.

I know there are a shitload of evils in the Thrax camp when it comes to keeping a lineup together but even though I am holding on by a thread to them at the moment, they have been one of my all time favorites (just about every era) so I hope they can pull it all together and I would be stoked beyond belief if bush came back!! Im not much of a Saint fan too much but I hope he can keep that together too because it seems they got a lot of good fans! The stuff i heard with Dan was killer, but hated him live but some of his Devilsize stuff and whatever that one song was that just popped up not too long ago that he did vocals on sounded pretty good!

GOD DAMMIT ANTHRAX! the Titanic sank almost 100 years ago, it dont want it to happen again!!! Get your asses together!!

I was never an Anthrax fan until I heard the song, "ONLY" which blew me away!!!! Then, I heard a few songs after John Bush left the band but didnt care for them. I would definitely give Anthrax another listen to if John Bush returns. Nothing against the other vocalists but he just has that deep raw sound that I am attracted to. Good job boys!

I think they should just put the record out the way it is, why mess with it if its such a good album! Does it really matter if your current singer is on it or not.

As much as I love John Bush's voice and the stuff he did with Anthrax, I'm totally over caring about Anthrax. Hey Scott... we're *still* waiting for you to sort out Ted Nugent, re: comments about Dimebag. That gonna happen any time soon?

2 things need to happen.

1. Scott and Charlie need to keep their mouths shut!!!
2. Pray that John Bush decides to come back full time.

Anthrax will only exist in the future if JB is the vocalist.

It's easy to track new vocals over the instrumentals. Might be even easier with the 'demo' they did with Nelson. Bush only has to ape the whole thing his own way and the album will be done. What is more tricky might be the whole lobbying around the album and hopefuly Bush asking them a good % out of it. He won't accept to get fucked again, I am sure.

What exactly is there to "sort out" with Ted Nugent? Ted has his own opinions and is allowed to think whatever the hell he wants. I think he's full of shit (the song didn't have soul when Pantera did it, but only becuase the original song lacked soul to begin with), but he's entitled to be full of shit all day long if he wants to. So what?

Trust me, in 5 years or so when Bush has has enough of their shit, or Benante and Ian fire him for lack of album sales/interest , they will pull a Van Halen and bring Belladonna back for their last stretch. Only then will they put out another Anthrax worthy album.

Belladonna is bar none the best singer they ever had. There is no hope of reinventing Anthrax without him or healthy fucking doses of thrash metal. They will usually put out some jokster tunes or experimental shit, but they were part of the so called Big 4 cuz they were thrash masters with Stephen King lyrics and dark commentary on social matters... unlike Anthrax's foray into grunge/alt metal with Bush in an embarrasing bid for continued relevance.

For those who think Bush is the answer, or that his era is the best Anthrax, you must also like your whiskey watered down to go with your mild salsa while you are watching the censored versions of South Park.

For those that think Fistfull is their best album, you must think that the light bulb is an over rated luxury and that 8 track tape and floppy disks are fucking fantastic.

I agree with Ohkar comments. It is very rare for a guy to get fired and than come back to a band. We saw Messiah come back to candlemass and he only lasted one album before another break up. Its like an old marriage that failed; the reasons it ended can come back again.

They fired Bush to bring back Belladonna, who is my fav anthrax singer. But than Belladonna quit and they begged Bush to come back and he said no, didnt want to come back with
"tail behind legs", so they got Nelson, and now he is gone, and Bush is back? My fav anthrax albums are Spreading the Disease and Among the Living, and Sound of White Noise. I dont think they are among the big 4, i personally take Testament or Overkill over anthrax.
