SLAYER Members Discuss 'Human Strain' Track; Video Available - Oct. 27, 2009
This past summer while co-headlining the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour, the members of SLAYER sat down on their tour bus backstage in Camden, New Jersey and talked about the eleven tracks on their upcoming album, "World Painted Blood". In the latest clip — which can be viewed below — Jeff Hanneman (guitar), Kerry King (guitar) and Tom Araya (bass, vocals) give us the backstory on "Human Strain"" (clip courtesy of U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine).

The official CD-release and listening party for "World Painted Blood" will be held on Friday, October 30 at Duff's Brooklyn in Williamsburg, New York beginning at 9:00 p.m. Free "World Painted Blood" merchandise and autographed copies of the best-selling Decibel magazine to date — the SLAYER issue — will be given away at the 21-and-over event, for which there is no cover.

The address is:

Duff's Brooklyn
168 Marcy Avenue (between S 5th & Broadway)
Williamsburg, New York

For more information, visit www.duffsbrooklyn.com.

"World Painted Blood" is scheduled for release on November 3 via American Recordings. The CD will initially ship with four special collector's edition covers. Each of the four covers will display one-fourth of a provocative continental map illustrated with human skulls and bones; when placed together, the four images form a complete and grisly map of the world.

All four of the initial CD packages will include a special blood-red, see-through top panel with the map displayed beneath it.

"World Painted Blood" track listing:

01. World Painted Blood
02. Unit 731
03. Snuff
04. Beauty Through Order
05. Hate Worldwide
06. Public Display Of Dismemberment
07. Human Strain
08. Americon
09. Psychopathy Red
10. Playing With Dolls
11. Not Of This God

"World Painted Blood" was recorded in Los Angeles over two time periods, during October 2008 and then between late January and March 2009. The CD was produced by Greg Fidelman, who's spent time in the studio with METALLICA, THE GOSSIP, THE (INTERNATIONAL) NOISE CONSPIRACY, SLIPKNOT and others, and executive-produced by longtime SLAYER colleague Rick Rubin, who suggested Fidelman for the project.

I remember an interview with Tom Araya when Death Magnetic came out. He was commenting on how shitty the album sounded. and now they use the same guy who ruined Death Magnetic to engineer, and mix the album? this doesnt make sense to me..Greg Fidelman you have sonically destroyed another great album! please tell us the reasoning behind your technique? why do you need to drive the tracks till they clip? and to begin with, why do the tracks sound so thin and brittle? you must have a reason for doing things this way..and Slayer, why the hell did you let the album pass like this? in any event, People if you have any experience with audio editing software run the tracks through an EQ to warm up the shitty brittle digital sound and then through an opto compressor. The tracks will now be listenable..they might as well start releasing albums unmixed and unmastered lol....

yep, the production is a big letdown for this otherwise pretty good Slayer album. How bands with so much experience as Slayer and Metallica can settle for such piss poor productions is beyond me.

...is really fucking good. Have heard it about 30x already. Real strong release minus a loser or so i.e. Americon, which to me, is total filler.

Ive listened to WPB.The production is a piece of shit.It sounds even worse that Death Magnetic, good job Fidelman.
The drums sound like they were recorded in a fucking basement without any further shaping(eq, subtle compression etc).Guitars are weak. This is a trainwreck. The songs are really average.I only like Psychopathy Red, Americon and Playing with Dolls.GHUA was their last album I enjoyed.

Slayer albums always sounded raw to me..Theres a difference between an album having a "raw" production as oppesed to a "slick" production and then a production that sounds like complete shit..This album and Death Magnetic sounds like complete shit..to give you an example, a Fear Factory album would be a "slick" production and a Sepultura album would be a "raw" production..both sound great. So before you come on here insulting everyone get your point of view on things straight..

Fucking terrible album. Production is awful, the songs are so half-assed, the solos are shit even for Slayer standards. Americon is the most retarded song i've heard for a long time.

Easilly, EASILLY their worst.

...Album is good, geting beter with every listening...Im buying it for shure... But we all should wait till we hear songs in real audio to judge the production... I mean, what have we heard so far? Some compresed stream or in best case Mp3...
I hope that all of you know what Mp3 is in comparsion to real audio... If you do NOT know the diference, please dont ever EVER say any words about sound and production
