EDDIE VAN HALEN: 'Life Is Good And I Am Happy And Healthy!' - Oct. 30, 2009
Legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen has updated his MySpace page with the following message:

"Took a short break and went to Vegas with Janie [Liszewski, Eddie's new wife], Wolfie [Eddie's son and VAN HALEN bassist Wolfgang] and Olivia.

"Hung out and relaxed, saw three Cirque shows, shopped, checked out the town and had a good time all around.

"Back home now and busy planning Janie's birthday and working on some stuff in the studio.

"Life is good and I am happy and healthy!"

Eddie Van Halen told Rolling Stone that he underwent the hand surgery due to a bone spur, a twisted tendon, and a cyst in the joint of his left thumb. He explained that the hand problems first popped up during VAN HALEN's last tour, saying, "During the last leg of our tour, I started developing pain in my thumb and my pinky. I didn't think much of it at the time. It got progressively worse to the point that about three months ago I wasn't able to play at all. My pinky and my thumb were totally locked up and felt like there was something broken."

He sought help from hand specialists in Dusseldorf, Germany, who at first were treating him for arthritis before further examinations showed the extent of the problem: "They said the only way to fix it was surgery, which of course scared the shit out of me, but I was told it was the only way to fix it. Surgery was a success, now I just have to let it heal. I am totally jazzed that they found the problem, fixed it and in about four months my hand will feel like I am 18 again. Thank God."

VAN HALEN — featuring brothers Eddie and Alex, Eddie's son Wolfgang, and David Lee Roth — are expected to record a new album and tour sometime in 2010.

Twenty bucks says we don't get another VH album. Eddie's been singing this song since the last (terrible) disc in the 90's.

I thought it was pretty lackluster. It just seemed rushed almost like there wasn't a lot of effort put into it. No extras. The cut-scenes are pretty bland. The VH set-list is fine and I wish they didn't have those other bands' songs. Maybe if they did like Metallica's and had actual bands that have influenced them, it would've made more sense. I'll admit it was free, but still compared to what Metallica and The Beatles did.....

Musically I thought there was some really good shit on VHIII. Cherone's lyrics were kind of lame but there's 4 or 5 tracks that stand out on that record. Not saying it's a gem or anything but it gets slagged way more than it deserves.

Glad Ed is enjoying his new hottie-half-his-age wife. Hope the energy transfers to the new music and pray that it sees the light of day.

Still one of the greatest ever.

Agree with 11:11. I liked the VH 3 album and even the tour.

Mis Michael Anthony though. No one in that band can hit the high notes like MA.

Your band shut you and your brother out of the HOF, fired you two monkeys and even changed their name!

On another note, Guitar Hero VH couldn't include bands that influenced them because they would have had to include Montrose!!!!

Chickenfoot is not better than VH. Chickenfoot IS VH.

Wasn't great, but wasn't anywhere near the debacle some people made it out to be. I'd give it 3 starts out of 5, IMO.

Yes it's history, but there's a few good songs on it. I saw the tour at MSG and it was great! People slag Gary Cherone and this version of VH but he's the only singer with the balls to handle the DLR & SH songs live and pull it off. The band was inspired live.
If you saw them that tour you would know. They opened the show with Mean Streets and then ripped throught 7 or 8 more Roth tunes.

Any thing new VH does will not be any good, they can not live up to the old albums from the 70's and 80's.

I'm more concerned about the 90 percent of reckless drivers on the road than someone smoking. No one cares about that since so many people love to speed. (not to mention texting etc...) Smoke all you want Ed. People love to pick and choose.

Not one of my all time fav's, but it's good to see Eddie back with Dave. I like to hear some new songs, even though those two songs they did with Dave on that Greatest hits cd in the late 90's were horrible, sounded like ZZ Top or something.

I've never say this here but I've got that looks exactly like Eddie (although he is like 20 years younger). And when I say exactly I mean exactly, with the same smile, eyes and everything.

He could dress up as him this Halloween, but I don't see the point either.

What you guys need is a Prozac the size of a handball: Ed IS Van Halen. It doesn't matter who sings, who plays bass, or what YOU think of his work on VHIII. I'm sure Beethoven had the same problem with composer wannabee's or listeners who had less musical understanding in their skulls than hermit crabs. In 100 years, people will still listen to Eddie Van Halen's work, just like we do Beethoven. It was great to see you in Indy in Oct '07, Ed...

and

because they all had Eddie, Alex, and Michael playing with them anyone else and it's not Van Halen.

Van halen can't do the SuperBowl, because Dave won't sing "Dreams"
